ENMU-Ruidoso reports record enrollments

The number of students enrolled at ENMU-Ruidoso grew the fall semester, reaching a record number of 1,141. The number translates into a 5.2 percent increase over the fall semester of last year. Although the total number of students increased, the FTE (the number of students taking an average of 15 credit hours) fell, indicating that more students are taking fewer classes per semester. Students taking online classes to supplement degree plans from other institutions, non-degree seeking students taking a single class for personal enrichment or professional development, working students going to college parttime and dual credit students increasingly make up the student body at ENMU-Ruidoso. This trend is likely to continue as ENMU-Ruidoso encourages high school students to take classes while in high school that apply to post-secondary degrees or certificate programs. Additional classes in career technical fields and academic studies offered in more area high schools give these students exposure to the college environment, but are not capable of constituting a full load. Other aims of the college – increasing online classes and making online degree and certificate programs possible – will also likely increase students while adversely affecting FTE numbers.
