In 2012 the Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium was named Venue of the Year by the Cowtown Society of Western Music. In addition True West Magazine named it the Best Chuck Wagon Contest for 2012. One of the highlights of the Symposium is the World Championship Chuck Wagon Competition (featured on the Food Network’s “All American Festivals and Cowboy Challenge”) with prizes totaling $13,000. Competitors are judged not only on their mouth-watering food, but also on the authenticity of their wagons and attire.

horse training & Skills If you’re interested in learning more about the art of horsemanship, then the Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium is the place to be! Each day Craig Cameron, the “gentle horse trainer,” will offer seminars using his unique skills in handling horses at the Craig Cameron Arena. Also enjoy the skills of Reining horses and their riders as they compete and are judged by you, the audience.

Jimmy Nathan Bowen This year the LCCS will pay tribute to James Nathan Bowen, a man with a strong work ethic and desire to succeed. Under his perseverance and determination, the Triple Bowen Ranch in New Mexico and Texas became a thriving, self-sustaining, working ranch. Attend Lt. Governor John Sanchez’ speech and plaque presentation in honor of Jimmy Bowen, the afternoon of October 11, on the Tuffy Cooper Stage in the Racehorse Hall of Fame.

Section 3 of the Grandstands - Winner Circle Registration: 10:30 a.m. -12 p.m. The Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Posse feature one of the best kids’ rodeos in the region. Held in the Sheriff’s Posse Arena, just like the pros, the kids’ rodeo offers exciting events for kids ages 3 to 10 years old. Rodeo events include barrel racing (stick horses), dummy roping, goat scramble and roping. Come cheer on the little cowboys and cowgirls! All participating cowboys and cowgirls must preregister.
EQUESTRIAN DEMONSTRATIONS Craig Cameron, known as “The Gentle Horse Trainer,” imparts his unique horsemanship skills and philosophy of training through short demonstrations. Craig’s demonstrations take place at the Craig Cameron Arena. Friday, October 11: 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12: 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13: 10:00 a.m. Charity Jacobs, the star of Trick Riding 101, a 4th generation rodeo performer and rancher on both sides of the family, never dreamed of doing anything else. Both Charity and her son perform as U Spur Rodeo Entertainment. She enjoys covering the history of trick riding and rodeo itself, promoting new and upcoming entertainers, working on her own presentation, and educating potential horse-buyers on the ins and outs of horse ownership. Charity can be found at the Craig Cameron Arena. Friday, October 11: 12:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12: 12:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. Diane Willoughby, a.k.a. Reiner Rendezvous and ShowDown at the Downs Reiner Rendezvous, an NRHA approved event, brings together Reining horses from all over the southwest region offering specialized competitions for the American Paint Horse, Arabian Horse and the American Quarter Horse. To rein a horse is not only to guide him, but also to control his every movement (NRHA website). This year, the demonstration will feature “Vintage Freestyle,” where exhibitors ride in costume to music, performing the specialized maneuvers required of a Reining horse. This class is an NRHA judged class, but a “People’s Choice Award” will also be voted on by the audience. Come watch these exhibitors perform and vote for your favorite combination of music, costume and ride (at the East and West ends). Show Down at the Downs is an Open All Breed show to an equine exhibitor. Reiner Rendezvous AND SHOWDOWN AT THE DOWNS, brought to LCCS by McJenterprizes, is an NRHA approved event which brings Saturday together Reining horses from all over 8:30 a.m. West End the southwest region offering specialized competitions for the American Paint Horse, Arabian Horse and the American Quarter horse. To rein a horse is not only to guide him, but also to control his every movement (NRHA website). This year the demonstration will feature “Vintage Freestyle,” where exhibitors ride in costume to music, performing the specialized maneuvers required of a Reining horse. This class is an NRHA-judged class, but a “People’s Choice Award” will also be voted on by the audience.

C bar C ranCh (#7) | Ken & Sue Cunningham, Hartley, Texas – Ranch. The C Bar C Ranch is located in the northwest corner of the Texas Panhandle near the town of Hartley, Texas. The C Bar C Chuck Wagon is a Peter Schuttler wagon from the early 1900s. This wagon is used on the C Bar C Ranch for spring/ fall roundups and brandings. C 4 b WaGOn (#8) | Randy & Susan Whipple, Amarillo, Texas – Ranch. Gordon Whipple purchased this early 1920s Weber wagon in the early 1980s. It has been used on his ranch for cattle drives, brandings, caterings and just about everything. After Gordon’s passing, Randy and Susan rebuilt the wagon and chuck boxes. The wagon reveals the original paint details found on the Weber Southern States Wide Track Wagon as well as the custom chuck boxes designed by Charles Goodnight. The C4B has competed in chuck wagon cookoffs as well as barbeque cookoffs, and has cooked extensively for Budweiser of Amarillo. In fact this is where the C4B name originated – “Cooks for Budweiser.” CirCle DiaMOnD ranCh (#6) | Phelps Anderson and Bill Hartman, Roswell, New Mexico – Ranch. The Circle Diamond Ranch is headquartered in Picacho, New Mexico, and the ranch was organized by W. E. Anderson in the spring of 1883 where it adjoined the Diamond A Ranch. The Circle Diamond Chuck Wagon worked the limestone hill country
up and down the Hondo Valley. Sheriff Pat Garrett found a meal at the Circle Diamond Chuck Wagon every chance he could get as he rode Lincoln County and claimed this meal to be his favorite. Although this chuck wagon is not the original, the tradition of “good chuck and conversation” continues the old ranch traditions. This wagon came from an old livery stable in Springer, New Mexico. It was restored by John Wolf in Crossroads, New Mexico. CirCle F ChuCkWaGOn (#2) | Bryan & Trina Fullingim, Petersburg, Texas – Ranch. The Circle F Chuckwagon is an original 3-1/2 ton Mitchell. It was sold by H.P. Waite Co. of McCook, Nebraska. Nothing has been replaced except the brake pads which are the soles off a pair of boots. It has all its original paint down to the pinstripes on the wheel spokes. COCklebur CaMP WaGOn (#4) | Sam Howell, Odessa, Texas – Ranch. The Cocklebur Camp Wagon is a “STANDARD” with F.W.W. Flint Michigan on the hubs. The Flint Wagons Works in Flint, Michigan, started in 1882. This wagon started its life as a farm and grain wagon before S.W. Howell converted it to a chuck wagon. The Cocklebur Cookin’ Crew rolled the wagon out in 1999 attending only two local events that year. In April 2013 the Cocklebur Wagon was renovated by Glenn Moreland, Fort Davis, Texas. With the help of Glenn the natural color of the wagon box and running gear was restored

and the chuckbox and boot rebuilt. The Cocklebur Camp, a lifetime member of the American Chuck Wagon Association, is headquartered in Skeen, Texas, once a community on the now abandoned Santa Fe Railroad running from Slaton, Texas, to Lamesa, Texas. Curly Cue CaMP (#18) | Clint Combs, Las Vegas, Nevada – Trail. Curly Cue Camp is a Peter Schuttler Wagon owned by Clint Combs. Clint’s sister Tina and her husband Mike Stallard are the wagon cooks who live in Albuquerque. Although Clint originally purchased the wagon because of his love for old western antiques, they have enjoyed getting involved in cooking competitions, traveling and visiting the many locations and most of all meeting all the fun and interesting people. They like to describe their chuck wagon experience as “good food, fun, friends and family.” Grubelnik ranCh (#5) | Dale Grubelnik, Lubbock, Texas – Trail. Grubelnik Ranch is located in Raton, New Mexico, on Berla Mesa. The wagon is a 1905 Weber with original paint. hOney DO SPOiler (#11) | Keven Romines, Pampa, Texas – Trail. This wagon is an early 1900s Rock Island. The stenciling of who sold and warranted the wagon is still read-
able on the sideboards. The crew has cooked for cowboys at roundups, receptions, weddings and cook-offs. JaCkSOn ranCh WaGOn (#16) | Thomas Jackson, Jr., Grants, New Mexico – Ranch. The Jackson Ranch, located on Highway 605 N near San Mateo, New Mexico, is a working cattle and horse ranch run by Tom Jackson, Sr. and Tom Jackson, Jr. The Jacksons raise registered Longhorn cattle and registered Appaloosa horses. The Jackson Ranch Wagon is a working chuck wagon in use on the ranch regularly during branding season and for annual 4th of July cookouts held every year at the ranch for family and friends. The Jacksons have attended the Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium and cook-off as spectators and competed for the first time in 2010. This will be their third entry into the cook-off. Jl Cattle COMPany (#9) | Johnny & Leonna Adkins, Abilene, Texas – Trail. The wagon is a 1910 John Deere and was purchased from Bryson Trading Post in 2000. It was and has been a family restoration project, making it into an authentic and competition-ready wagon. The wagon is used on Leonna’s families’ ranch south of Baird, Texas. Besides ranch work, the wagon has been used in community service activities such as school, church and historical reenactment events. The historical reenactments include appearances at Fort Concho in San Angelo, Texas, as well Frontier Texas in Abilene, Texas. The JL Cattle Company Wagon also competes in chuck wagon competitions throughout Texas and New Mexico and caters events in the Abilene, Texas area. lizzie ii (#15) | Rex and Sheryl Wailes, Bennett, Colorado – Trail. This wagon was built in Wisconsin and was originally sold in Bird City, Kansas. It held 66 bushels of wheat and sold as flax tight. The wagon is all original and still has the weight limits on the axles. The chuck box is made out of old grain sides from Rex’s dad and grandpa’s grain trucks. The boot and tool boxes were made out of old grain bins that had been used on the Wailes Farm to store wheat. The bins were constructed by the CC work group that was formed during the depression. Being able to incorporate the past into our wagon has been very special to us.

MOrelanD WaGOn ShOP (#14) | Glenn Moreland, Fort Davis, Texas – Trail. This wagon is an Owensboro wagon restored as a reproduction of the chuck wagons used on the trail at the end of the 1800s. It has been used on ranches, for trail rides, catering and chuck wagon gatherings from Ohio to California and many points in-between. The restoration was done by builder, Glenn Moreland of Fort Davis, Texas.

rOCkinG rr ChuCkWaGOn (#3) | Russ and Susan Richins, Phoenix, Arizona – Trail. The Rocking RR Chuck Wagon was originally a farm and grain wagon built around
1900. A plate on the running gear identifies it as being built by Pekin Wagon works, Pekin, Illinois. It was restored and converted to a chuck wagon by Glen Moreland of Moreland Wagon Works, Ft. Davis, Texas. The wagon has been used for cook-offs in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. It is also used for demonstrations at various Old West Days and Outdoor Expos to promote the heritage of chuck wagon cooking. It is occasionally used for catering as well. Rocking T Chuck Wagon (#13) | Lonnie Tegeler, Chappell Hill, Texas – Ranch. The Rocking T Chuck Wagon has been in the Tegeler family for almost 100 years and is now enjoyed by the fifth generation of the family. Originally purchased by Herman Tegeler in the early 1900s, the wagon remained in continuous use on the family farm and ranch near the small community of Sempronus in Austin County, Texas, until the retirement of Herman Tegeler in the late 1950s. Raymond Tegeler inherited the wagon from his father. The wagon has been officially registered by the American Chuck Wagon Association as a historical wagon and was presented the number plaque (#23) that is proudly displayed on the wagon.
Johnny Brumley in Groom, Texas. It is an original Bain Wagon. The Rodgers Ranch Chuck Wagon is used for competition, caterings and for fund raising. The wagon has been officially registered as a historical wagon and has a plaque on the wagon (#45). The wagon is at home on the Rodgers Ranch in Burnet County, Texas. The ranch was started in 1860. Running D Wagon (#12) | Donnie Daniels, Harrison, Arkansas – Trail. Solano Wagon Co. (#1) | Vince Smith, San Jon, New Mexico – Trail. This Townsend wagon was made in Memphis, Missouri, on November 4, 1856, and has survived a few owners and is still in good usable condition. It now resides near San Jon, New Mexico. The makers name is still fairly visible behind the water barrel. It is new to me a few years ago. Since acquiring this wagon we have cooked for ranch brandings, family reunions, church gatherings and chuck wagon cook-offs.
