The competition was a close battle of will and strength. In the end, it doesn't matter who wins or loses. Why? Because in the end, we all won. Every single person who participated has contributed to their house’s final score. I am sure many of you are tired and worn down from it, but it’s the experience that counts! Good effort everyone!

Inktober Earn points for your house by drawing! October isn’t only for artists, everyone can enter. If you are interested, go and ask one of the Beauclerc house captains for more information. (Or go and check the prep entrance) All of you probably saw and heard about it, so this should serve as a reminder for you to join in on the challenge!

Community Roles Y8 Beauclerc students had been doing their community roles this last week! Thank you for the effort and time that you put into it. This week, Hardy has been doing their part so a huge thank you to them as well! Webb-Ellis- get ready for yours next week.

CRAZY CONSPIRACIES I am back with even more conspiracy theories, although this one is mostly just mysteries that are unsolved. I swear the next one will be theories though! This is a topic I am quite interested in so you will probably see more of these. I have written part one, you can go and check it out from our last article!

The Lost Colony of Roanoke This is one of the greatest mysteries in early American history. In the late 1500s, over 100 settlers disappeared from the Roanoke Colony, leaving behind a cryptic word —“Croatoan”—carved into a tree. Was it a relocation, an attack, or something more unearthly? We may never know, but the question still lingers: what happened to the Roanoke colonists? Speculation continues, and the story remains a historical question.

The Oak Island Mystery Off the coast of Nova Scotia lies Oak Island, home to one of history’s longest-running treasure hunts. For over 200 years, treasure seekers have searched for a buried fortune rumoured to lie beneath the island. Eita’s animal reports presents: Antartica’s animals And understanding the environment and roles in the ecosystem Antarctica: Antarctica is a vast and barren land where most organisms will perish due to the harsh environment.

These following animals have adapted to survive in these conditions and are maintaining the food chain and wellbeing of their habitat.

Some reside in the ocean floor cleaning the water and environment, while others stay in the daylight zone maintaining the food chain and ensuring that the creatures in the ocean floor gets scraps to stay alive.

Krill: Being at the bottom of the food chain it is like the structure of this habitat for a plethoric amount of animals.

They stay in groups of millions which attract large whales and other animals like crustaceans in the sea floor to feed and them.

Crustaceans, invertebrates and small fish: A bit above that are most, small crustaceans and small fish these creatures get eaten by larger animals like fish that are around 15-25inches (37.5-62.5cm). These crustaceans help clean the ocean floor and the invertebrates help filter water as well as cleaning the ocean.

Large fish and mammals: Mammals (like penguins and fish) such as the Antarctic toothfish and the Patagonian toothfish grow up to 2 meters and are at the start of the predatory species.

Predatory animals: Animals like leopard seals are predatory feeding on most of the below like penguin and fish.

Apex Predators: Apex predators, like Orcas and Polar Bear, are one of few known apex predators (at the top of the food chain).

They can feed on most of the animals above and easily defeat them.

PAUL’S SPORT REPORT CONTROVERSIAL FINISHES In the world of sport, times and scores are the deciding points for major medals and positions in an event. Sometimes the competition manager makes the wrong decision or someone may have reached the finish before others. Either way, it can have a massive effect on the placing and major medals won. Today, I will be diving into the top three most controversial finishes and placings in the history of international competition.

FIrst of all we have to talk about Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of god’ incident at the 1986 world cup quarter-final. The match was between England and Argentina - two extremely top teams at the time. The game was close, as expected, with a scoreless first forty-five minutes of the game. As the players went into their locker rooms for the halftime break, fans doubted whether a goal in the second half would be scored and that it be settled with penalties. As the players came out of the changing rooms, they all knew they needed to change their game, and that was exactly what Diego Maradona did. Six minutes into the second half, English midfielder Steve Hodge tried to kick the ball to the goalkeeper to slow down the game. As the ball zoomed through the air, Diego jumped and wildly punched the ball past the English goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Despite efforts from the English players to persuade the referee, England did not manage to score after that and Argentina secured the World Cup victory.

At the 1972 Summer Olympics men's basketball final, the Soviet Union led 49-48 with three seconds remaining in regulation when US star guard Doug Collins stole the ball and got fouled to prevent a breakaway layup. He made the first of two free throws, but then the horn went off as he attempted the second - which he made. The referee, Renato Righetto, allowed the free throw to count, giving the US a 50-49 lead. An assistant coach for the Soviet Union ran onto the floor, protesting that the team had called timeout before Collins's second attempt. The game was stopped with one second remaining because of the coach's disruption. The refs agreed that the Soviets had successfully called timeout and put three seconds back on the clock, despite protests from the US. During the timeout, the Soviets illegally substituted Ivan Edeshko into the game. He inbounded the ball to Modestas Paulauskas, who then tried to get the ball up the floor to star Alexander Belov, but the clock ran out. The US appeared to win the game and the gold medal. But Renato William Jones, secretary general of FIBA (the International Basketball Federation), demanded that the Soviets get a third chance to inbound the ball with three seconds to go.

He had no jurisdiction to overrule the referees, but was allowed to do so. On the third attempt, Edeshko threw a full-court pass to Sergei Belov, who scored an uncontested layup at the buzzer, giving the Soviet Union a 52-51 victory.

The undisputed heavyweight champion of the world from 1987 to 1990, Mike Tyson is widely regarded as one of the top heavyweight champions even today.

In 1997, Tyson faced off against Holyfield, the reigning heavyweight champion whilst he was in prison. Tyson believed Holyfield had illegally head-butted him multiple times during the bout and demanded a rematch. That rematch took place on June 28, 1997, with both men receiving what were then record fees for any boxing match. Holyfield head butted Tyson in the second round, but referee Mills Lane ruled the action incidental. The bout then took a strange twist in the third round when Tyson bit both of Holyfield's ears, severing part of his opponent's right ear. Tyson, who said his action was revenge for Holyfield's illegal head-butts in their previous bout, was disqualified. Tyson's actions cost him more than the bout. On July 9, 1997, the Nevada State Athletic Commission revoked his boxing license and fined him three million dollars.
