Mock TuDoR PlankS- It’s not wood its better – the perfect solution for replacing wooden mock Tudor planks.

Wooden Tudor planks are very high maintenance, and sometimes only last up to 1 year before seeing signs of deterioration. The new mock Tudor planks carry a 15 year guarantee and once fitted can be forgotten about. These boards are handmade reproductions created from high-quality mouldings of actual English Oak pieces. Each plank has the identical detail, warmth and visual appeal of actual wood. With its grained timber texture, knots and imperfections of centuries old oak and with the mock Tudor pegs the effect is so true to life it’s hard to tell that they are not real wood. Unlike any other product on the market, these planks have a coloured core providing unparalleled UV resistance.

CONCRETE GUTTERING/ FINLOCK GUTTERING Concrete gutters, also known as Finlock gutters were a cheap installation option on properties built in the 1950’s to 1970’s. The protruding half acts as the concrete gutter, whilst the section hidden within the house provides a counter balance. Cutting and removing concrete modernises your house by installing UPVC fascia boards and plastic guttering stops leakages and damp, but! It it is not the only option, look into re-lining if it is possible.

THERE ARE ONLY TWO WAYS MAIN PROBLEMS WITH CONCRETE/ TO GET RID OF LEAKING FINLOCK GUTTERING FINLOCK • Frequent movement and cracking of the 1-Re-Lining (using rubberbond joints EPDM with a 20 year guarantee) • Being only a few inches from the ceiling leaks 2-Complete removal and can cause considerable damage replacement with modern PVCu • Unlike normal gutters, repairs need to be gutter system carried out by specialist guttering companies

Are you ready for a I have now moved into my new home and it is absolutely wonderful to have eventually arrived.

I think there has been a lot of bad publicity in the media about Bovis homes but the care and attention I have received cannot be faulted.

The design of the house is sublime and yes there are a few snags which will need attention but basically its perfect. Big projects usually do generate a few problems - why do we always seem to focus only on the negative.

The media can be dangerous; I feel at the moment all we are hearing is negative with a lack of the positive; another example is our wonderful health service. It should be something we are proud about but if you listen to the news you would think there was nothing good about it. Where are all the satisfied patients? All those whose lives have been saved by the care and attention so professionally given? I am not suggesting there are not major problems but along with all the complaints there are many thousands of people who are and will be eternally grateful for the care they have received. How about giving up complaining and start giving praise and thanks where it is due.

Well having got that off my chest I feel we need to concentrate on good health and I want us to look at the weighty subject of weight!

It is certainly true that is it much easier to gain weight than it is to lose it. It is now time to shed those extra pounds ready for those lovely warm days of Spring and Summer. I want to encourage you to face the facts, if you are overweight, and to start taking some positive steps toward a slimmer and healthier you.

For good health it is important not to carry too many excess pounds, being overweight stresses the body by putting a strain on your joints and also on your major organs. It can be a serious health risk. I often impress upon my Clients that if they want to live a long and active life then it is essential to keep your weight under control.

As I often say, diets do not work. This is the main reason I designed my Healthy Living for Life Programme to help people who have struggled with their weight for a long time. If you change your lifestyle then you can maintain your weight loss and also feel much healthier than before. Small changes can make a big difference and remember there is no quick fix.

An average weight loss of 2 to 3 lbs each week is my recommendation. I hope the following

1. First and most importantly you have to make up your mind to take control of your body.

There are lots of issues around this and it can be really hard when other emotional factors are affecting your life. We are all unique so what works for one person does not necessarily work for another. You know best and sometimes realising how much better you are going to feel is a good key to success. Remember you are worth it so be strong.

2. Plan, plan, plan – last minute decisions about meals, means we usually choose the wrong things. Make your life easier and avoid the temptation of ready meals by planning ahead.

3. Remember breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and your body needs protein in the morning. Try the protein drink I take SynerProtein, it is so quick and easy and helps with weight reduction. Contact me for details.

4. New research suggests that some of us may only need two meals a day. This will not be right for everyone but you could try for a week just having a good breakfast and then waiting until dinner with perhaps a light snack at lunch.

5. Eliminate bread and potatoes for one week and have alcohol as a treat NOT everyday!

Alcohol stresses the liver and is full of sugar.

6. Include vegetable protein found in beans and pulses, a good source of fibre and inexpensive.

Recipes From Three Bistro Welcome to what I hope will be the first of at least more than one recipe..

As we’re still just the other side of Christmas and early into the New Year many of us are either still keeping up with the diet or gone bust. I’m somewhere in the middle so a Roquefort salad is the perfect lunch. I’d never been one to order a salad when eating out until I discovered this in France. It soon became one of my favourites even though I am really not a fan of blue cheese. The pear offsets the blue cheese beautifully and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t normally like cheese. This salad has the potential to be seriously healthy, that is of course if you leave out the Roquefort, walnuts, prosciutto and dressing which gives you another version of this recipe, ‘a salad’!

The ingredients; Mixed leaves: crisp, vibrant, preferably ready washed to spare you the arduous task of having to do it yourself, or like me, get your sous chef to do it for you!

Roquefort: commonly available in most supermarkets, including German ones.

Pears: Ripe and soft.

Walnuts: Fresh & creamy Prosciutto: Preferably produced from the hind legs of specially selected heritage breed pigs raised in any of the 1 regions of Italy approved by the ‘Consorzio’, or failing that, any Prosciutto will do!

Cucumber: An ‘EU’ approved one (we’re still in Europe!) and as straight as possible, although this is not a deal breaker.

Dressing: Balsamic glaze and French dressing The Method Empty the mixed leaves into a large mixing bowl or other appropriate receptacle. Skin the cucumber and cut off a 5cm section if you are relatively hungry, 8cm if you are slightly more hungry and….well you get the idea. Cut this into semi circles and add to the salad. Crumble in a conservative amount of Roquefort and a good amount of walnuts. Skin and slice half a pear into thin strips like you imagine a chef would do, or failing that, Nigella, then add this. Dress the salad and pour into the bone china salad dish you intend to serve it in (other cheaper bowls are permissible). Tear up and decorate the salad with the Prosciutto delicately placing larger pieces in four equidistant points around the dish and one in the centre. Place cubes of Roquefort on each of these with a larger one in the centre and decorate with a full walnut. Drizzle a drop of Balsamic glaze on each of these and then use your discretion with the rest of the salad, this is your canvas so exercise as much creativity as you see fit but don’t overdo it, no one likes a show off. Add a final drizzle of French dressing and serve. Now sit back and enjoy with a good bottle of white wine and if possible someone you like or vaguely care for.

Special note: Balsamic glaze: You can make your own by just boiling Balsamic vinegar and expertly adding sugar. However, add too much and you’ll never get it out once the pan dries, I tell you this from experience so you don’t have to learn the hard way.

French dressing: The easiest is two parts oil to one part white or red wine vinegar, garlic, seasoning, Dijon mustard and I balance it all with a little ‘Agave’ as I’m cutting edge (!) but you don’t have to as I’m sure Monsieur Francoise doesn’t.

Hopefully this month the ground will start warming up. So its time to tidy the lawn, get planting the bulbs and defending the garden from those pesky slugs!

Time to take action on those slugs.

The First Cut of the Lawn March is the month for the first cut of the year. So set the mower high and cut on a dry day. The smell of the first cut grass is like nothing else.

Although now is a good time to start laying turf, Prepare ground for sowing lawn seed and hold off until early April to get best results.

One top tip is that slugs love grapefruit. This method works great if you are a grapefruit lover. Cut the grapefruit in half, empty out the good portion for you to consume. Place the grapefruit halves upside down in your garden and leave them there overnight.

The next morning, you should have hopefully captured some slugs and snails in the grapefruit trap.

Simply take the trap and either throw it away or leave it somewhere in the garden where the birds or other natural predators can enjoy a mighty feast.

Don’t throw away your maternity clothes I remember how comfy the maternity trousers were. Don’t rush to get rid of them just yet. You’re not going to achieve perfect shape overnight.

There’s no rush to lose weight and wearing the correct size is definitely more flattering than squeezing into the jeans you wore before you were pregnant. Think beyond the black Black is probably your first choice of colour right now as it is flattering, but too much can leave your wardrobe and your complexion looking dull. Navy, chocolate brown and burgundy are just as flattering but much more forgiving. Adding bright accessories can also be the perfect fun element addition.

Go for easy care fabrics If it requires hand washing, dry cleaning or ironing leave it in the wardrobe! A cotton jersey is comfortable and crease free so stock up on some basics- a wrap dress, leggings and long sleeved tops that you can layer up under a cardigan.
