Editors Letter... Hi everyone and welcome to the March Edition of The Rugby Register What a mixed month. The weather has been sooo cold but with bursts of bright sunshine, lulling me into a false sense that perhaps spring is on its way and then bam, another frosty morning. I’m done with the cold now, it needs to warm up! February is my birthday month too, and that was lovely this year thanks to my wonderful friends and family. What hasn’t been so good in February is illness, my little boy had the flu, and by the flu I don’t mean a bad cold, I mean the proper flu. The poor thing was in bed for days aching, hurting, fever, its been awful and with it also came tonsilitus too. Luckily he’s now all better and we can concentrate on re-building him and his strength. It’s awful when your children are ill and theres nothing you can do. So a very mixed month. I have high expectations from March: No illnesses please and a teeny weeny improvement in the temperature will do just fine! Ooh i’ve also got an MRI on my dodgy knee in March so I might get to find out whats wrong there - my running days may well be over....... let’s hope not. We have some lovely new advertisers with us this month offering some great services and
we also have a bumper double page Community News section of charity & fundraising events. Be sure to have a look through. It’s great for us to be able to support all these events by giving them free exposure Anne and it’s even greater to know that there are so many groups and individuals out there helping all these wonderful charities. So grab a cup of tea, sit & relax with this months bumper edition and get page folding on the advertisers that you’ve been meaning to contact. (that’s what I do!) Happy Mother’s Day to all the lovely mummies out there, enjoy your special day.

Bespoke Independent Financial Advice You Can Trust P J L F i n a n c i a l S e r v i c e s was established in 2011 by our manager Paul Loveridge who has amassed over 20 years experience within the financial services industry, having grown steadily since then and we are now a team of six highly motivated and trustworthy individuals. We are a directly authorised firm of Independent Financial Advisers and Mortgage Advisers based in the midlands. We offer impartial financial advice on many aspects of both personal and business needs with our bespoke financial planning service. Here at PJL Financial Services the client really does come first and we understand and respect the fact that financial planning is not a one size fits all product, which is why our team of highly experienced professionals are committed to providing the very best advice for each individual client and we can guarantee that any advice given will be part of a bespoke package specifically tailored to you and your needs. We provide advice on mortgages, buy to lets, savings and investments, all aspects of retirement planning (personal pensions, company pensions, drawdown pensions and annuities), life and critical illness planning, income protection, insurances and estate planning. We often find that people have old, out of date policies and pensions which have not been reviewed for many years which may not be providing the best value for money anymore and by simply updating to a newer cheaper plan or even just altering the investment funds within an existing plan the potential returns can be dramatically improved.
Mortgage Consultancy - Free Consultations - Access to whole of the market - Over 20 years of mortgage experience - Access to exclusive deals - Supply of solicitors at your request - Advice and guidance throughout, from application to completion With our help, your house buying/ remortgage process can be simple and stress free.
Financial Planning - Free consultations - Pre & Post Retirement Planning - Savings & Investments - Life/Critical Illness Cover - Income Protection - Inheritance Tax Planning With the help of our in house pension specialist you can be confident that all of your retirement options can be taken into account and advised upon.
If you need help or guidance with any area of your finances and plans for the future why not give us a call on 01 788 5 7112 2, we’ll be more than happy to discuss these with you and arrange a free, no obligation appointment either here at our Rugby based office or in the comfort of your own home.

Neelam Verma is the mum to twin 4 year old’s Vinay and Shriya, based in Cawston, Rugby. Both suffer from Cerebral Palsy, however, Vinay is unable to stand alone and cannot walk without the aid of a walking frame, tripod sticks and wheelchair for longer distances. Recently, Great Ormond Street Hospital approved a costly surgery that may help him walk one day. Neelam is delighted with the initial response to her funraising efforts and has started a Facebook Page to help keep people updated with Vinay’s progress and the fundraising events & progress. If anyone has any fundraising ideas or would like to fundraise for Vinay she would be delighted to hear from you. The "Hope 4 Vinay” campaign aims to fundraise £60,000 to fund this critically needed operation, via donations and fund raising events. You can donate via Just Giving and follow Hope 4 Vinay and register for forthcoming events on Facebook.

Big enough to cope, small enough to care
All installations carried out by RSI carry a workmanship guarantee AND a manufacturer’s guarantee Roger and his family have been running the company since 1983 which means knowledge has been passed through three generations allowing RSI to build the reputation it has today. We specialise in fascias, guttering and EPDM roofing but also offer many other services which are always fitted to the highest professional standard, well beyond most of our competitors. Our quotations are only ever provided by Roger or his sons: Craig or Marcus. OUR QUOTATION PROCESS • Contact us through our website, telephone or by email to arrange a convenient time and date. • During our free quote we explain what is involved in our installation, there are no pressure sales and our quotes only take a short time to carry out. • NO DEPOSIT- payment is on completion of installation. Please be wary of companies that ask for a deposit or upfront payment. • After our genuine survey we will send a written quotation in the post or via email. We give a firm quote and do not start at an inflated price so there is no need to barter. • Once the quotation is sent in writing we leave the decision entirely up to you. There are no follow up calls.

Mock TuDoR PlankS- It’s not wood its better – the perfect solution for replacing wooden mock Tudor planks. Wooden Tudor planks are very high maintenance, and sometimes only last up to 1 year before seeing signs of deterioration. The new mock Tudor planks carry a 15 year guarantee and once fitted can be forgotten about. These boards are handmade reproductions created from high-quality mouldings of actual English Oak pieces. Each plank has the identical detail, warmth and visual appeal of actual wood. With its grained timber texture, knots and imperfections of centuries old oak and with the mock Tudor pegs the effect is so true to life it’s hard to tell that they are not real wood. Unlike any other product on the market, these planks have a coloured core providing unparalleled UV resistance.
CONCRETE GUTTERING/ FINLOCK GUTTERING Concrete gutters, also known as Finlock gutters were a cheap installation option on properties built in the 1950’s to 1970’s. The protruding half acts as the concrete gutter, whilst the section hidden within the house provides a counter balance. Cutting and removing concrete modernises your house by installing UPVC fascia boards and plastic guttering stops leakages and damp, but! It it is not the only option, look into re-lining if it is possible. THERE ARE ONLY TWO WAYS MAIN PROBLEMS WITH CONCRETE/ TO GET RID OF LEAKING FINLOCK GUTTERING FINLOCK • Frequent movement and cracking of the 1-Re-Lining (using rubberbond joints EPDM with a 20 year guarantee) • Being only a few inches from the ceiling leaks 2-Complete removal and can cause considerable damage replacement with modern PVCu • Unlike normal gutters, repairs need to be gutter system carried out by specialist guttering companies

Looking after your Skin, Hair and Nails This month I am looking at how to protect and improve the condition of your Skin, Hair and Nails. As Spring approaches we want to look and feel our best.
Skin
Our skin is the largest organ of the body and its condition is a major indication of our overall health. Stress, poor nutrition and lack of sleep will soon be reflected in your complexion. The skin consists of three layers, the epidermis the outer layer we can see, the dermis - the middle layer and the subcutaneous layer which is the inner layer. Skin is there to protect us, from the many foreign substances that bombard us, it holds everything in place and keeps us warm or helps cools us down. It also has a role excreting toxins from the body. There are many horrid skin conditions but the most serious is cancer, malignant melanoma being the worst. Overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet radiation (UV) is damaging to the skin and the incidence of skin cancer is rising dramatically probably because of the reduced protection from the ozone layer which is allowing more of the damaging UV radiation to affect us. UV also causes sunburn and premature aging and damages the eyes. For both vanity and health I would urge you to use high factor sun protection even in the winter and always wear sun glasses that block UV. Please avoid sun beds; much research suggests they are harmful. Free radicals cause the most damage to the skin externally from cigarette smoke, pollution and ultraviolet light and internally by a diet low in essential nutrients and high in the many toxic substances that we ingest including hydrogenated fats, fried food and highly processed foods. To protect the skin from sun damage and aging we need a diet high in antioxidants. Vitamins A, C, E and D combined with selenium and omega 3 which help reduce inflammation.
Inflammation in the body is the major cause of many diseases so it is essential to eat a diet rich in what have been called the Super Foods. Bright coloured fruits and vegetables; carrots, squash, broccoli, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, kale, cantaloupe melon, peaches, apricots, and berries provide the A vitamins. Oranges, lime, I spent a lot kiwi, green peppers, encourage a broccoli, green leafy a month but vegetables, berries teach you th and tomatoes are rich in Vitamin C which is your life? W the important vitamin way but with for the formation and about ourse maintenance of collagen. Walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green leafy vegetables and barley for vitamin E. Lycopene rich foods found in cooked tomatoes, watermelon, papaya,Will andit be ea apricots also provide protection to the skin. and the rew

Hair
Healthy hair is a good indicator of your general health. Hair problems are often associated with a poor diet. Dull lack lustre hair often results from insufficient Vitamin A, protein and essential fatty acids and excess consumption of refined carbohydrates and saturated fats. Oily hair can indicate a Vitamin B deficiency. Dry or brittle hair can be a sign of a lack of the essential fats which are called essential because we cannot produce them so we need to ensure that we consume plenty of oily fish, nuts and seeds, and I always recommend a high quality Omega 3 supplement. Poor hair growth or fading natural hair colour may be a sign of zinc deficiency. Hair loss can be caused by stress, or a diet low in iron, vitamin B1, vitamin C, or lysine (an amino acid). Healthy hair is also dependant upon good blood circulation. Massaging the scalp can be helpful and relaxing. Choose your hair products with care, natural products are best. Many of the chemicals used in hair products can cause allergic reactions. Look for natural products which contain biotin and silica.
Nails
Nails are there to protect the fingertips and tips of the toes from injury. They are a substructure of the epidermis and are composed mainly of keratin, a type of protein. Problems with poor circulation or low levels of nutrients in the blood, will adversely affect the structure of the nails so good nutrition is important.
O O his also Fungal and other diseases can invade the nail bed, particularly if of th they are damaged. Also any period of serious ill-health will show T he p in the nails. Often grooves or streaks can be seen, these are of m strong indicators of poor nutrient supply to the nail bed. e ligam For healthy nails, be sure to eat plenty of quality protein. e Eat grains, legumes, oatmeal, nuts and seeds and cooked mech a eggs. Avoid refined sugar and processed food. Carrot juice is nerv n ous excellent for strengthening the nails and you could try soaking The p them in warm olive oil or cider vinegar for 10 minutes each day. Use hand cream at least twice a r mani ima day massaging around the nail bed. Keep your hands out of hot water and strong detergents; be pulati kind to nails, they are not there for tasks like removing staples or scratching off bits of paint! comp l If you want beautiful hair, skin and nails eat a varied diet containing plenty of good protein especially range aint a o f mo oily fish and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and get plenty of sleep. is

Recipes From Three Bistro e’s’ ‘Fis h & C hip s e r ’ ‘T h
‘Three’s’ ‘fish & chips’ This isn’t just an apostrophe fest but ‘three’s version of a British institution, only slightly…well…much more healthy and spicy. Yes, we are going through this thing they call ‘Brexit’, yes we are leaving one union of countries but we are, have been, and will still be a country in world of countries and a trade partner of many other countries outside Europe and despite the doom portrayed by the purveyors of doom, life and the UK will continue to exist and trade after ‘Brexit’. If we were leaving a trade deal with China then it really would be time to panic! Great Britain has long been a beacon of hope for people from all over the world as it did at one time, control a fifth of the globe. Sure some of this past involved sheer plunder, exploitation, avarice, nice buildings, comfy sofa’s and a massive railway, but the legacy is that the United kingdom is one of the most diverse and culturally adventurous countries on the face of this planet. This to me was never more clearly illustrated than when the Captain of my British Airways flight from New York announced that we would be served Britain’s national dish, ‘chicken tikka massala’ for dinner!
Chilli’s and aromatic roots are now a staple of almost all cookery shows on TV and people’s home cooking. British cooking has evolved I would argue much more than say French, which seems to be too steeped in tradition to move on and embrace other traditions to evolve. Fish & chips with mushy peas is an absolute classic and one of the main things that people from all over the picture when they think of British cuisine. It also totally captures the simple ethos and approach of what we try and do at ‘three’, namely devise meals with three main elements to produce food that makes the absolute most of each of these elements to create a harmonious whole. The Ingredients Haddock: Frozen is fine as long as it was fished involving the most amount of danger and risk as it keeps the meat fresh & lively! Chilli, garlic & ginger: The holy trinity Potato: The bigger and rounder the better Tomato puree: There’s not much to add here! Spices: Varying amounts of blended black peppercorns, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, cumin, turmeric, mango powder, fenugreek leaves, onion powder, chilli powder, paprika Horseradish cream: It doesn’t have to be the full nose killer Peas: I prefer petit pois but if you grow your own then use them you showoff! Chicken or vegetable stock: Use vegetable stock you are a Pescatarian The Method Marinate the fish in some oil, garlic, ginger, green chilli, tomato puree and spices then set aside in the fridge. Skin the potato and cut using an appropriate sized ring or slice into a number of 1-3cm thick slices. Put these into a pan and boil in the stock of your choosing till soft but still holds it shape well. Take the slices out of the stock and place on a baking tray and baste with butter and season. Place the tray in a preheated oven at 180 degrees. Check periodically and further baste with butter. Meanwhile bring some peas to the boil. Once boiled, crush them lightly and add the horseradish cream to taste. Leave in a covered pan while you cook the fish. Take the fish out and pan fry in some rape seed oil. Be careful not to overcook the fish or it will be tough and ‘rubbery’. If you’ve timed it right the potatoes will be ready to plate as soon as the fish hits the plate. Add the peas and enjoy at home, a friend’s or at the supper club at ‘three’.

Cut Flowers - How about planting some plants to flowers ready to fill your vases in a few months. Ranunculus and Anemones can be planted into borders now that the soil has warmed up. Ensure that the corms are soaked overnight in room temperature water for at least 10-12 hours before planting. Both will flower in around three months, rewarding you with beautiful blooms for your home.
T h e K it c h e n G ar d
en The Kitchen Garden:
Mowing the Lawn: It’s time to mow the lawns once the first signs of growth start. Some good tips:• Keep the blades sharp • Don’t take too much off at once • Clean your mower after every use to prevent disease spreading • Mow little and often • Avoid mowing when the grass is very wet, frozen or when the weather is very hot • Change the direction of mowing every time you trim your lawn. If you mow north-south this week, next week you should work east-west and the week after south-east to north-west. This prevents “graining” where the grass all grows in one direction.
You can now get going on your veg. It’s so exciting, especially if you love sowing seeds and messing about in the potting shed or greenhouse. It’s your last chance to sow fruiting half-hardy vegetables, e.g. tomatoes. You can now sow courgettes, leeks, peas, beetroot and cucumbers under cover. Sow perennial veg seeds, eg globe artichokes. Plant asparagus crowns. Sow broad beans direct outside. Cover soil with plastic to dry it out, then direct sow carrots, parsnips and radishes. Plant early potatoes.

Well done to last months winner - S Bridge of Hillmorton
Films Coming to the Cinema during March
Mary Magdalene: Release Date: 16 March 2018 The Plot: Directed by Garth Davis (Lion and Top of the Lake) and set in the Holy Land in the first century C.E., a young woman (Rooney Mara) leaves her small fishing village and traditional family behind to join a radical new social movement. At its head is a charismatic leader, Jesus of Nazareth (Joaquin Phoenix), who promises that the world is changing. Mary is searching for a new way of living, and an authenticity that is denied her by the rigid hierarchies

Game Night: Release Date: 2 March 2018 The Plot: Bateman and McAdams star as Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks (Chandler), arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it’s all part of the game...right? But as the six ubercompetitive gamers set out to solve the case and win, they begin to discover that neither this ‘game’—nor Brooks—are what they seem to be. Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves increasingly in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn. With no rules, no points, and no idea who all the players are, this could turn out to be the most fun they’ve ever had...or game over.

Fun Mother’s Day crafts All mums love homemade gifts whatever the age of the child. Here are a couple of easy, low cost fun crafts that mum or grandma will love...
Bookmark Make this loveworm bookmark craft for kids for Mothers Day - he's cute, quick & fun and makes a sweet gift! You will need: Strip of card 6 small craft foam hearts 1 large craft foam heart 2 tiny craft foam hearts
Red pipe cleaner 2 small googly eyes Red felt tip Glue
Instructions: Stick six of the small hearts in a column overlapping the top of one heart over the point of the heart above. This is the body. Stick the large heart on top. This is the head. Cut two short pieces of the pipe cleaner. Stick these to the back of the head. Stick a tiny heart to the end of each piece of pipe cleaner. Glue on the googly eyes to the head, add a heart sticker for the nose and draw on a mouth.
Bath Salts These bath salts are a fun crafty gift which kids can make to give to mum on Mother's Day, a grandmother or other favorite adult any time of year!
You will need: Plain bath salts (like Epsom salts) Essential oil (Powder or paste), food colouring (not liquid), Glass jar, Pretty fabric Ribbon
Instructions: Put some of the plain bath salts into an old bowl. Put in a tiny amount of essential oil (about 2 drops for every cup of salts) and a tiny amount of food colouring. Stir well with an old wooden spoon until all of the salts absorb the colour. Repeat with as many different colours as you like. Carefully pour the salts into a clean jar (we layered different colours). Cut a square of fabric to fit over the lid of the jar, tie in place with some pretty ribbon, or simply decorate your jar with pretty stickers. Lavender oil and purple colouring works well as it look s & smells lovely and is very relaxing in a bath.
