Bespoke Independent Financial Advice You Can Trust P J L F i n a n c i a l S e r v i c e s was established in 2011 by our manager Paul Loveridge who has amassed over 20 years experience within the financial services industry, having grown steadily since then and we are now a team of six highly motivated and trustworthy individuals. We are a directly authorised firm of Independent Financial Advisers and Mortgage Advisers based in the midlands. We offer impartial financial advice on many aspects of both personal and business needs with our bespoke financial planning service. Here at PJL Financial Services the client really does come first and we understand and respect the fact that financial planning is not a one size fits all product, which is why our team of highly experienced professionals are committed to providing the very best advice for each individual client and we can guarantee that any advice given will be part of a bespoke package specifically tailored to you and your needs. We provide advice on mortgages, buy to lets, savings and investments, all aspects of retirement planning (personal pensions, company pensions, drawdown pensions and annuities), life and critical illness planning, income protection, insurances and estate planning. We often find that people have old, out of date policies and pensions which have not been reviewed for many years which may not be providing the best value for money anymore and by simply updating to a newer cheaper plan or even just altering the investment funds within an existing plan the potential returns can be dramatically improved.
Mortgage Consultancy - Free Consultations - Access to whole of the market - Over 20 years of mortgage experience - Access to exclusive deals - Supply of solicitors at your request - Advice and guidance throughout, from application to completion With our help, your house buying/ remortgage process can be simple and stress free.
Financial Planning - Free consultations - Pre & Post Retirement Planning - Savings & Investments - Life/Critical Illness Cover - Income Protection - Inheritance Tax Planning With the help of our in house pension specialist you can be confident that all of your retirement options can be taken into account and advised upon.
If you need help or guidance with any area of your finances and plans for the future why not give us a call on 01 788 5 7112 2, we’ll be more than happy to discuss these with you and arrange a free, no obligation appointment either here at our Rugby based office or in the comfort of your own home.

Sudden Cardiac Death in Young People
Sadly, every week in the UK, around 12 young people (under the age of 35) die suddenly from a previously undiagnosed heart condition. 80% of these deaths will occur with no prior symptoms. Sudden Cardiac Death is an umbrella term used for the many different causes of cardiac arrest in young people. Cardiac Risk in the Young provides medical information on the most common causes of unexpected sudden cardiac death in the young (under 35). Sudden Cardiac Death is defined as an event that is non-traumatic, non-violent, unexpected, and resulting from sudden cardiac arrest within six hours of previously witnessed normal health.’ (Sharma et al, 1997. Br J Sports Med). These conditions include thickening or abnormal structure of the heart muscle and irregularities of the electrical impulses that upset the natural rhythm of the heart. Cardiac Risk in the Young raises awareness of the symptoms of cardiac abnormalities and conditions which can lead to sudden cardiac death while emphasising the considerable amount that can be done to help young people who have been diagnosed as having a cardiac abnormality. CRY is also supporting medical research into sudden cardiac death and sudden death syndrome and offering counsel and support to families affected by sudden cardiac death. CRY brings ECG Testing and Cardiac Screening events to the general public to detect cardiac abnormalities and supply’s much needed medical equipment to clinics around the UK in order to detect cardiac abnormalities and prevent sudden cardiac death
Conditions which if undetected, can lead to sudden cardiac death are listed below:-
CRY offer Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) FREE screening Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) for all Restrictive Cardiomyopathy (RCM) 14 -35 year olds. Myocarditis Prevention is better than Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) cure. Register online to Ion Channelopathies (Long QT, Brugada, Lev-Lenegre’s….) receive details of local Wolff (Wolfe) Parkinson White Syndrome (WPW) screenings Coronary Artery Anomalies (CAAs) Marfan Syndrome Other Cardiac Conditions – Endocardial Fibroelastosis (EFE), Tachycardia, Antibiotic Prophylaxis, Churg-Strauss Syndrome, Right Bundle Branch Block (RBBB) Screening in the community: CRY’s FREE screening programme is overseen by charity’s Consultant Cardiologist, Professor Sanjay Sharma (St Georges’ NHS Trust) and now tests around 27,000 young people across the UK every year. One in every 300 of the young people that CRY tests, will be identified with a potentially life- threatening condition. Regional, community screenings are usually funded by families who have been affected by a young sudden cardiac death, so there is no charge to the individual when CRY’s mobile cardiac screening service is bought to a local school, sports club or community venue. And, if a young person is found to have an abnormality, CRY will also conduct the further follow up investigation on the same for no additional charges. (Privately these tests could cost hundreds of pounds, just for the ECG and an expert consultation.) We use a very a simple and non-invasive way of diagnosing most cardiac abnormalities. It is a quick, painless and affordable procedure called an electrocardiogram (ECG).
Prevention is better than cure - Surely we do not rely on “waiting” for a young person to collapse to try and save
them when we have the ability - through screening - to prevent the collapse from occurring. Cardiac screening WORKS. Although it won’t identify all young people at risk, in Italy, where screening is mandatory for all young people engaged in organised sport, they have reduced the incidence of young sudden cardiac death by 90%. This is because sport - whilst it does not actually cause sudden cardiac death - can significantly increase a young person’s risk if they have an underlying condition. CRY has provided a screening programme for over 18 years. The screening team tests elite Olympic athletes, as well as working with a number of professional sporting bodies including the English Institute of Sport, the RFU, RFL, LTA, SKY Cycling and a number of FA teams.
In addition to CRY’s screening programme, the charity also funds specialist bereavement support: • The programme has been developed to help people with their grief following the unaccountable sudden death of an apparently fit and healthy young child, sibling, relative or close friend from an underlying cardiac condition. • CRY regularly holds specialist Bereavement Support Days across the UK for families who have been affected by young sudden cardiac death – although those seeking support have usually been the parents, particularly mums. • CRY’s bereavement support volunteers have achieved British Association of Counselling (BAC) accreditation with Skills and Theory certification following two years training, so they can help others to come to terms with their tragedies
For more information, go to: www.c-r-y.org.uk or to find out about a free screening in your area, please visit: www.testmyheart.org or call: 01737 363222

Big enough to cope, small enough to care
All installations carried out by RSI carry a workmanship guarantee AND a manufacturer’s guarantee Roger and his family have been running the company since 1983 which means knowledge has been passed through three generations allowing RSI to build the reputation it has today. We specialise in fascias, guttering and EPDM roofing but also offer many other services which are always fitted to the highest professional standard, well beyond most of our competitors. Our quotations are only ever provided by Roger or his sons: Craig or Marcus. OUR QUOTATION PROCESS • Contact us through our website, telephone or by email to arrange a convenient time and date. • During our free quote we explain what is involved in our installation, there are no pressure sales and our quotes only take a short time to carry out. • NO DEPOSIT- payment is on completion of installation. Please be wary of companies that ask for a deposit or upfront payment. • After our genuine survey we will send a written quotation in the post or via email. We give a firm quote and do not start at an inflated price so there is no need to barter. • Once the quotation is sent in writing we leave the decision entirely up to you. There are no follow up calls.

Mock TuDoR PlankS- It’s not wood its better – the perfect solution for replacing wooden mock Tudor planks. Wooden Tudor planks are very high maintenance, and sometimes only last up to 1 year before seeing signs of deterioration. The new mock Tudor planks carry a 15 year guarantee and once fitted can be forgotten about. These boards are handmade reproductions created from high-quality mouldings of actual English Oak pieces. Each plank has the identical detail, warmth and visual appeal of actual wood. With its grained timber texture, knots and imperfections of centuries old oak and with the mock Tudor pegs the effect is so true to life it’s hard to tell that they are not real wood. Unlike any other product on the market, these planks have a coloured core providing unparalleled UV resistance.
CONCRETE GUTTERING/ FINLOCK GUTTERING Concrete gutters, also known as Finlock gutters were a cheap installation option on properties built in the 1950’s to 1970’s. The protruding half acts as the concrete gutter, whilst the section hidden within the house provides a counter balance. Cutting and removing concrete modernises your house by installing UPVC fascia boards and plastic guttering stops leakages and damp, but! It it is not the only option, look into re-lining if it is possible. THERE ARE ONLY TWO WAYS MAIN PROBLEMS WITH CONCRETE/ TO GET RID OF LEAKING FINLOCK GUTTERING FINLOCK • Frequent movement and cracking of the 1-Re-Lining (using rubberbond joints EPDM with a 20 year guarantee) • Being only a few inches from the ceiling leaks 2-Complete removal and can cause considerable damage replacement with modern PVCu • Unlike normal gutters, repairs need to be gutter system carried out by specialist guttering companies

Grow your Own Potatoes: Charlotte and Maris Peer potatoes can be planted from mid June to late July. They are so easy to grow and the children will love seeing them grow. These are best planted into our 40 litre patio bags, 5 tubers per bag. No chitting is necessary as the warmth of the compost and the summer temperatures will quickly entice growth. Keep the compost moist at all times whilst the plants are growing, do not overwater or saturate the compost as this can compact the compost and squeeze out the oxygen, preventing the developing tubers from swelling. Also container growing allows them to be moved into your greenhouse or shed if blight threatens.

Lavender:
There are very few plants that give as much in terms of flowering, colour, scent, foliage and trouble free behaviour as Lavender and now is a great time for you to plant pot grown lavender - Hidcote is the quintessential English lavender planted this month or next it will race away and look fabulous towards the end of summer and great all next summer as well.
Making A Good Compost: Now the garden is growing nicely and the
lawn is being cut regularly, there will be plenty of material available for composting. Make sure that you fill your compost bin with an equal volume of nitrogen-rich material (grass clippings, manure, shrub prunings) and carbon-rich material (flower stalks, shredded paper, woody clippings). Keep your compost bin moist. The contents should hold together, but not drip water, when you squeeze a handful. If you want compost fast, the secret of success is to turn the contents of your bin once a week. You could well have made well-rotted compost within 10 weeks.
Accounting from the clouds
Putting you in control of your business finances Are you ready for Making Tax Digital? In Britain, where we are often subjected to four seasons in one day, we could all be forgiven for wanting to see the back of clouds for good. However, there’s a new cloud on the scene and it’s one that business owners need to embrace… “The Cloud”, is an invisible storage space for data and software. It eliminates the need for data to be stored on a device, where it would take up memory and restrict your access to when you are using that device only. Cloud Accounting software is always up to date, no need for upgrades or backups, and it minimizes your risk of losing important receipts. Clouds Accounting systems can save you time with the integration of your live bank feed and whether you use Xero, Sage or Quickbooks it gives you access to your data and up to date business reports anytime, anywhere, from any device. You can rest assured that your data is saved on a secure cloud server and is constantly backed up. Even if your computer crashes everything is still saved in the cloud. By granting us access to the system we can instantaneously gather the information required to produce your accounts and also to support you with queries as they arise throughout the year. At Cottons we can assist you in making the right choice on your software provider and we have a team dedicated to training and supporting you in your use of the software. Why delay? The benefits are available now and the revolution is only getting better.
If you are looking to set up your cloud-based accounting software or simply need any advice, please contact Cottons Chartered Accountants today on 01788 579033 or email rugby@cottonsllp.com

Recipes From Three Bistro e Arra b biat a n n Pe Penne Arrabbiata Italian food has always been one of my favourites and pasta has been a passion of mine for a number of years, the introduction to which was one of the few happy things my exwife left me with but I’ll leave this and many other stories for my book which should be out later this year! A recent trip to the Amalfi coast reminded me of how much I love pasta as the only time I seem to eat it now is when checking to see it is good enough to serve. However, I made up for it by putting on over two kilos in pasta and pizza but I don’t like to boast! Although many pasta dishes can be simple, they can be deeply rewarding and if there was an effort to reward ratio then pasta would have one of the best. Research also now shows that as long as the pasta is al dente then it really isn’t as fattening as you would imagine. Seasoning is key to this and most dishes and can turn a bland or run of the mill experience into something truly memorable. Although this may not be absolutely authentic in some people’s eyes, I feel you have to make every thing you do your own.
The Ingredients Garlic & chilli: As if it wouldn’t make an appearance in one of my recipes! Herbs: The usual Italian suspects although if possible, please include fresh basil Harissa paste: If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again and again, this is tantamount to cheat sauce. This could change your life or at the very least your cooking. Tomatoes: A mix of tinned and fresh Tomato puree: The choice isn’t endless although there are normally only a few brands available in most shops
The Method Boil the pasta and once cooked, keep some of the water before draining. Get your sous chef to chop the garlic into thin slices along with the chilli and any fresh tomatoes you will be using and if you don’t have one (a sous chef), then maybe you can borrow mine! Once this is done, fry the garlic and chilli or chilli oil before adding the tomatoes. Season well and add the herbs along with a teaspoon of tomato puree and harissa paste. Fry this together mixing well before adding some reserved water from the pasta and add a pinch of sugar. Add the pasta to the sauce till it is well coated. Season to taste and serve with some fresh basil, cracked pepper and freshly grated parmesan. This dish is a quick and superb lunch dish, however many people may be at work and not have access to the ingredients or indeed a kitchen equipped to make such a dish. With this in mind the lovely people at ‘three’ are now offering this dish as part of an enhanced lunch menu!

Films Coming to the Cinema during June increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.

The Happy Prince: Release Date: 15 June 2018 The Plot: The final years of Oscar Wilde, and the ghosts that haunted him, are vividly evoked in Rupert Everett’s directorial debut. Building from his own 2012 lauded stage portrayal of Wilde in David Hare’s The Judas Kiss, Everett physically and emotionally embodies the literary genius as he lives out his last days in exile, in a performance described by critics as ‘flawless’ and ‘the best thing Everett has done’. The film opens in Paris, where Wilde, by now in his forties, penniless and in poor health, is still reeling after being imprisoned in England for his love affair with Lord Alfred ‘Bosie’ Douglas (Morgan). Out of prison but a pariah, Wilde swings between grief and a determination to wrest whatever pleasure and beauty he can from the time he has left. His body ailing and heavy, his mind spinning, he survives by falling back on the flamboyant irony and brilliant wit that defined him. Everett’s Wilde is tortured but determined to remain true to himself. His thoughts are filled with love and betrayal and permeated with those closest to him: Bosie, his literary agent Robbie Ross (Edwin Thomas), his great friend Reggie Turner (Firth) and his estranged wife Constance (Watson). As the film travels through Wilde’s final act, and journeys from England to France and Italy, desire and loyalty face off, the transience of lust is laid bare, and the true riches of love are revealed. Hereditary: Release Date: 15 June 2018 The Plot: When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter Annie (Toni Colette) and her husband (Gabriel Byrne) and their two children begin to unravel cryptic and
