Editors Letter... Hi everyone and welcome to the December Edition Well that’s it, it’s here and there’s no more ignoring it. Christmas is coming!!! I dug out the ‘Christmas head gear bag (it’s a big bag) and out of it Catherine chose my favourite hat - she really wasn’t ‘feeling’ it. I guess is was still November at the time, but out of us both I am normally the grumpy one about Christmas. Thought I’d include an out-take too - the others weren’t printable! Did you enjoy our ‘Shop Local, Shop Christmas, Shop Rugby’ feature last month where we showcased just some f the amazing shops that we have in Rugby? Well it was so popular with our advertisers and you readers loved it too, that we have run it again this month. This month gives you some familiar shops from last month and a host of new ones too, so be sure to have a good read through and consider where & how you can support local shops this Christmas. Now, what do you think of our wonderful front cover design? Isn’t it great? A big well done to Jenna Durston. We have such a tough job choosing winners & runners up for the annual competition, they are all so special in their own way. This is year has seen more entries than ever so a big thank you all the parents & grand parents that allowed their children to enter. A selection of entries are printed inside this edition.
I would like to wish my right hand man, Catherine, my wonderful 38 distributors and all you wonderful readers a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous New Year. Be safe, be Merry and enjoy!
Anne xx

lack of circulation at the site of the injury and this dictates the type of manipulative procedure. Chiropractic and osteopathy have similar backgrounds and some techniques used are almost identical. Both disciplines are conducted by highly qualified professionals and the treatments offered have proved very beneficial for many people. Always remember the importance of good nutrition for your overall health. A healthy diet can help alleviate pain by reducing inflammation and raising levels of serotonins. Include bright coloured vegetables and fruit, oatmeal, seeds and oily fish.

not convinced because being a vegan does not necessarily mean you are eating a healthy diet. You can still be making
poor food choices and missing out on essential calcium, vitamin D, iron, vitamin B12, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids. If you are already or do decide to become a vegan it is important to include vegetable protein in your diet which you will get from nuts, seeds, beans and pulses. Make sure you include lentils, chickpeas, tofu and soya versions of milk and yogurt. Other good sources include cashew, pistachios, flaxseed, chia and pumpkin seeds, buckwheat and quinoa. Also be aware that some vegan products contain high levels of coconut oil which is high in saturated fat. For over 10,000 years we have been farming and eating livestock. It is good to remember that our diet is not simply about the food on our plate – it has an impact on many other parts of our lives. At present the global meat and dairy industries provides work for millions of people in often very poor communities around the world. Farmers also state that some grazing land simply isn’t suitable for growing crops and if we want to eradicate world hunger then it’s the politicians and big businesses that need to change not our farming methods. We already produce 1.5 times the amount of food needed to feed everyone on the planet. It just does not get to everyone in need which is one of the tragedies of the world we live in today; whether you are following an omnivorous, vegetarian or vegan diet, in this country we live in the land of plenty. I believe the best diet for you is the one you are comfortable with; the diet that provides you with the health and energy you need. Variety is important so why not try a vegan or vegetarian meal a few times a week and see the impact that it has on your health. The choice is really all yours. Live with joy and health. Local Artist & Rotary Club team up for Remembrance
Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter
Inspired by the poppy display at the Tower of London The Rotary Club of Rugby Dunsmore commissioned local Artist Janet Watson Art a work of art to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day. The result is a triptych (art in 3 panels) and also a smaller poppy artwork all depicting a positive landscape of poppies created for future generations. The bright individual particles drawn towards the sun represent the millions of people who made huge sacrifices to help make this possible during all conflicts since 1914 ending in 1918. These amazing pieces of artwork were unveiled at the visitor centre by Mayor Cllr. Tom Mahoney on 6th November where the artwork hung for the remainder of November and has since been moved to Houlton where everyone is welcome to go along to view it. Following its time at Houlton it will then move to its permanent home with sponsor Mark Brazier of PAB Group. Mark plans to hang it in the boardroom of his office. Fine art, limited edition, professionally produced prints named and signed by the Artist, together with canvasses, hand embellished and signed by the Artist making each one unique, are available for purchase as a potentially great investment for future generations to continue to remember this historic moment. All profits from purchases will be divided equally between the Artist and Rugby Dunsmore Rotary Club, who have pledged their proportion to go to the Mayor’s nominated charity – SSAFA the Armed Forces charity. Sample canvasses and prints can also be viewed at Inside the 22, at 2 Lawrence Sheriff Street from now until the end of December. Anyone wanting to view or purchase the canvas prints or limited edition prints can do so at: www.janetwatsonart.com or the Visitor Centre in Rugby
Prices: Fine art limited editions, signed, numbered and bordered prints: 30 x 30 cm: £45 and 60 x60 cm: £65 (plus p&p) Artist hand embellished canvas prints, each one unique: 30 x 30cm: £80 and 50 x 50cm: £110 (plus p&p)

Order seed catalogues and make plans for next year’s garden. Check gutters and drains for fallen leaves. Break any ice on garden ponds. Sweep patios and driveways so that any slippery algae and leaves are cleared away. Don’t forget to feed the birds, a cold snap can mean they need more energy - just to keep warm - and the short days leave less time to find food. So do your bit, leave a little bird food out and keep the bird bath clean and free from ice. Improve difficult soil by adding organic matter. By laying down a couple of inches of compost, followed by a layer of mulch, you are protecting your plants from hard frosts as well as any wildlife that fancies a nibble on them, and providing them with vital nutrients. Plant up winter containers with hardy cyclamen, ivy, skimmia and evergreen grasses such as Carex to add colour to your garden. Winter can be a good time for weeding. Collect those fallen leaves from lawns. It’s worth remembering not to walk on the grass after any frost. When frozen, the leaves become brittle, and will not yield to pressure, and so snap and break when trodden on in frosty conditions. Leave the faded flower heads on your hydrangeas until the spring, as they will provide frost protection to the swelling buds further down the stems. If you’ve completed any of these I’m sure you deserve a nice hot cup of tea and a huge slice of cake in the warmth!

Bespoke Independent Financial Advice You Can Trust P J L F i n a n c i a l S e r v i c e s was established in 2011 by our manager Paul Loveridge who has amassed over 20 years experience within the financial services industry, having grown steadily since then and we are now a team of six highly motivated and trustworthy individuals. We are a directly authorised firm of Independent Financial Advisers and Mortgage Advisers based in the midlands. We offer impartial financial advice on many aspects of both personal and business needs with our bespoke financial planning service. Here at PJL Financial Services the client really does come first and we understand and respect the fact that financial planning is not a one size fits all product, which is why our team of highly experienced professionals are committed to providing the very best advice for each individual client and we can guarantee that any advice given will be part of a bespoke package specifically tailored to you and your needs. We provide advice on mortgages, buy to lets, savings and investments, all aspects of retirement planning (personal pensions, company pensions, drawdown pensions and annuities), life and critical illness planning, income protection, insurances and estate planning. We often find that people have old, out of date policies and pensions which have not been reviewed for many years which may not be providing the best value for money anymore and by simply updating to a newer cheaper plan or even just altering the investment funds within an existing plan the potential returns can be dramatically improved.
Mortgage Consultancy - Free Consultations - Access to whole of the market - Over 20 years of mortgage experience - Access to exclusive deals - Supply of solicitors at your request - Advice and guidance throughout, from application to completion With our help, your house buying/ remortgage process can be simple and stress free.

Recipes From Three Bistro Christmas Sides
The Old Fashioned with a Twist This is a cocktail I have fashioned myself using some of my favourite things and it is the perfect festive drink for winter. Mix together in a cocktail shaker:
The
As we hurtle towards the end of another year of triumph, laughs, misdemeanours and the ongoing saga that is Brexit, it is time to turn our attention to the big ‘J’ and his birthday wrapped up in a lovely bundle called ‘Christmas’. For me the big centrepiece gifts have always been a little bit of a disappointment. They always looked grand and impressive all wrapped up, but never quite delivered. One year the biggest gift I got size wise was a badminton set which conversely gave me the smallest use. Every man woman, child and chef will be trotting out ever ‘new’ ways to baste the perfect Turkey but for me the sides are what elevate a Christmas dinner and Christmas itself. For many it’s the excuse to drink 10 times the amount you normally would. With this in mind I’m giving you two sides, one for your dinner and one to always have on the side of any drinks party you host…well it is Christmas!

Red cabbage Balsamic vinegar Maple syrup Butter Shred the cabbage and throw into a large frying pan with a little rapeseed oil and butter on a high heat. Fry till they soften a little and then add a little balsamic vinegar and season. As the balsamic reduces add a little maple syrup and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Then add a little water and cover. Turn the heat down to steam the cabbage. Taste at intervals and sweeten, spice or further cook to taste. This is a beautiful and slightly exotic side to the traditional Christmas dinner and one of my favourites. You can join us at ‘three’ to host your own event, sample the Old fashioned with a twist or mulled wine and mince pies throughout December. Now you have yourself a very Merry Christmas!

Films Coming to the Cinema during December
Aquaman: Release Date: 14 December 2018 The Plot: 14 December 2018. From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, ‘Aquaman,’ starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be...a king. Mortal Engines: Release Date: 14 December 2018 The Plot: Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns.
Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
