Be realistic:-

Dreaming is the start of any good renovation, but to have the job done properly, you have to be realistic about what you can accomplish based on your budget

1) Planning is the first part?

 What is your budget for the works? And is it realistic?

 Get quotes, not Estimates and a detailed break down one each quote.

 Do you need to change any electrics or plumbing?

 If it is outdoor works they may be delays due to bad weather in the winter.

 Do you need to speak with council planning Department.

 Ask the tradesperson, at the time of giving a quote, if his work needs to be submitted to building control.

 How long will it take to complete the work?

 Get every little detail of the home renovation in writing from the contractor, before you agree.

2) Whhat is the order of the Works?

 Electricians, Plumbers, Gas Engineer these trades will need to access into walls floorboards and ceilings.

 Carpenters, for alterations for moving timber frames replacing floor boards.

 Plaster's for walls and ceilings and making good after electrician, plumber and carpenter.

 Kitchen, bathroom fitters.

 Tiler in kitchens bathrooms and under floor heating

 Painter/Decorator.

 Carpet Layer.

3) Do the Contractors belong to a Trade Body?

 Trade bodies are there to help the public from rogue traders.
