Editors Letter... Hi everyone and welcome to the March Edition of The Rugby Register So, due to my injuries in January I’ve been getting better slowly but a lot of February was spent recuperating and doing physio to get my feet moving again, and this time I’m not complaining because the weather has been dreadful, so for once I was glad not to be doing the school walk twice a day! My birthday was in February and I watched through the window as we had rain, hail, snow, wind and sun all in 1 day. I was just waiting & hoping for a rainbow to complete the weather set! I hope the storms are behind us now, 1 big gust for me on these unsteady feet and who knows where I’ll end up (I’m now imagining Mary Poppins but not nearly as dignified). This month’s edition brings you some wonderful articles, local businesses and features, together with our usual articles: What’s On, Community News, Recipe and not forgetting the crossword which seems to have stumped a few of you just lately. We’ve had a number of wrong entries in, messages, emails asking us the answers to the odd clues, It
seems that Catherine is being tough on you. Don’t worry though, I’ve had a sneaky peek at this months and you’ll be fine I’m sure. It’s Bilton Village Panto time this month - ‘oh yes it is!’. This year is Rapunzel and show Anne dates are on the poster in Community News. All my 3 children are in it again this year. They love being part of the village community and making new friends each year. Why not come along to see it? Wishing all the Mums, Mummies, Mothers out there a wonderful day on the 22nd. Have a great March everyone,
Anne xx

Misty Double Glazing?
Don’t replace the Frames ...just the Panes!
Hi, my name is Dave Millidge, let me introduce my company where I repair windows and replace misted up double glazed units.
The area that I cover is Coventry and Warwickshire. You may have seen me around in your street or even have family and friends who I have worked for in the past ten years, with over 6,000 satisfied customers during that period. I started Misty to Clear to give customers the best value repairs in the current climate. The Misty to Clear website allows total transparency of the customer experience. You can log into the website and view work that I have carried out. You can also leave feedback on social media. Therefore, I give a 25 year guarantee on all new double glazed units fitted by Misty to Clear.
Misted/Failed Double Glazed Units Replaced Broken or Damaged Windows? Faulty Hinges, Handles or Locks? Want the latest energy saving glass? Family run business with 25 year guarantee on new double glazed units
This is a genuine guarantee which does not come as an extra to my price. I started Misty to Clear mindful that the cost of repairs is probably key to most people’s budget when using tradesmen to do work on their behalf in their homes. I offer a lower cost service to both old and new customers as I operate directly for the customer with no additional hidden charges or insurance costs to you the customer. So, my company name is Misty to Clear where I can offer steamed up window glass replacement and fix broken handles, hinges, seals, window locks and door locks. I also change glass in Velux windows too. Satisfaction guaranteed to be a high standard that carries a 25 year guarantee.
Clearly a great service!

Hair Health
T
he hair is a complex part of the body, yet it isn’t essential for our general health,so GP’s really don’t know how best to diagnose and advise on the vast range of conditions that cause hair and scalp problems. Many people turn to google or purchase ‘over marketed’ so called hair loss products that have mixed results. The key to treating any condition, not just hair and scalp, is identifying the cause, then treating it and the condition is likely to improve.A hair health clinic appointment will address your anxieties and fears and, in most cases, recover your hair and scalp health. A consultation will review lifestyle, nutrition and haircare, explore any concerns you may have & identify any issues at an early stage. It will include a detailed

examination of the hair & scalp, allowing me to diagnose any condition and advise onthe best treatment to give you thebest results. An extremely common condition, ‘shedding excess hair’, can usually be resolved in a few months with a supplement costing around £12.50 per month, solving hair and scalp conditions is not as costly as you may think, you may not need expensive over the counter ‘hair loss’ remedies that may not be right for your condition! During March 2020 I am offering my hair health clinics at a special rate of £99, but appointments are limited, so why not get your hair ready for summer by calling me today quoting Rugby Register?

. . . y a D s ’ r e h t o M Sunday 22nd March
We’ve been celebrating Mother’s Day since the 16th Century, however, how we’ve celebrated has changed over the years. Traditionally, it was a day when children, mainly daughters, who had gone to work as domestic servants were given a day off to visit their mother and family. Today the day is a celebration of all things Mum/Mummy/Mother and a way of appreciating & thanking them for all they do. Thank you’s come in all sorts of ways but traditionally in the UK we tend to give cards, flowers, chocolates and more recently gifts like Afternoon Teas, Spa Days, Beauty Treatments and Meals out. For younger children, some lovely ideas are: handmade cards, home/school made crafts or a simple bunch of daffodils. As the age old saying goes - its the thought that counts!
Happy Mother's Day! March offer: 10% off all gift vouchers We offer following types of massage: Therapeutic Sports Deep Tissue Facial Pregnancy Myofacial Cupping Offer is open to new & existing clients. Use voucher within 3 months from date of purchase.

Elizabeth Beetham BSc Holistic Nutritionist, Natural Health Journalist gives her thoughts on
Cancer Prevention
Last year a friend of mine died of secondary breast cancer and it made me very sad that such a beautiful, young women suffered so much and died from this awful disease at the age of only fiftyfour. Indeed, cancer is a very frightening disease and the diagnosis and prognosis for many is scary. It must be stated that medical science is advancing all the time and I am sure that a cure will be found in this new decade. There is also good news, as many people who have cancer are being cured or their life expectancy is being increased. Cancer statistics are alarming so is there anything we can do to minimise the risk? I believe there are important changes we can make to our lifestyle and personal habits that can help to minimize the risk of cancer. Certainly, the one that will improve your health almost overnight is to stop smoking, or never start smoking if you are a non-smoker. It is well documented that smoking causes cancer. Lung cancer is one of the major killers and death by lung cancer is rising particularly for women. (A fivefold increase in the 20th century). It is also important to discourage young people from smoking. If you are a smoker and are finding it difficult to stop there is a lot of help available to you and if you ask your Doctor this help is free on the NHS. The one thing we do have complete control over is what we eat and drink. Eating a healthy low saturated fat diet is a good cancer prevention strategy. If you can, I recommend organically grown produce whenever possible. Growing your own fruit and vegetables can be a rewarding and healthy way to improve your diet. Avoid processed foods especially those with a high fat, salt or sugar content, and fried foods which may contain carcinogens. Increase the amounts of green vegetables and fruit in your diet and eat a salad with your main meal; all these contain anti-oxidants and will increase your vitamin and mineral intake and also help elimination of waste. Fibre in your diet is essential for good health and the recommendation is for at least 30g each day. Plant based diets are very helpful in providing us with the fibre and the nourishment we need to be healthy. I recently watched a documentary called “What the Health which has really made me reconsider my diet. I am undecided myself about which diet is best and I have a degree in Nutrition so I know it’s confusing but certainly from watching the documentary I will be restricting the amount of dairy I eat because I do feel addicted to cheese! A varied diet is what I have always recommended but eating less red meat and not eating processed meats despite the recent press reports makes sense to me.
To improve our health, we should also restrict or avoid alcoholic beverages; there is no direct evidence that alcohol itself is carcinogenic but heavy drinking has been linked to higher risk of developing mouth, throat, esophagus, larynx and liver cancer. Drinking plenty of fresh clean water, at least six to eight glasses a day, is as essential to health as healthy eating. The heart, blood and kidneys are constantly cleansing and purifying. This purification system needs plenty of water to work efficiently removing toxic waste from the body. Many household products that we use contain carcinogenic substances. It is important to become a discerning purchaser of domestic cleaning products, many of which are extremely toxic. Also, cosmetics and hygiene products for example toothpaste, deodorant and shampoos often contain chemicals that may be carcinogenic. Hair dyes, particularly dark ones are often carcinogenic. Spray cans are dangerous for your health; it is best to avoid all aerosols because the propellant used may be carcinogenic and every time you use one, you cannot avoid the inhalation of high concentrations of its chemical contents which are toxic and not only bad for you but also the environment. I am sure in the next few years they will find a cure for cancer but in the meantime we all need to look after our own health and remember prevention is much better than cure so start making some good health choices today. Live with joy and health. Elizabeth Beetham www.powerforhealth.com Healthy Living for Life 07773 790736

GARDENING JOBS FOR MARCH
Over winter, the lawn does not grow much, but once the weather warms up in early spring, you can start mowing, and this is also a good time to over-seed any areas damaged over winter. March is generally the time to dust down your mower and give your lawns a weekly trim (whenever the dry weather appears). Mowing regularly keeps the lawn in good health.
La
The days are getting longer and the sun slightly warmer so March is the time to get back into the garden and get those lawns back into shape. Plants will appreciate a prune to get the best out of them later in the year.
M ain te na nce n w
All lawns need feeding in order to maintain vigour. When feeding, look out for signs of pest or disease and apply moss killer if required. Regular maintenance is the best way to approach a lawn, and may avoid the need for renovation later on. Moss is a problem in damp, poorly drained lawns. Spring is a good time to remedy moss problems.
Prun
in g Pruning is done to control growth, define shape, create flowering/fruiting branches for the following season, improve air circulation around the plant, reducing the chance of infection and probably most importantly to remove dead, damaged or diseased areas of a plant. • Prune roses to encourage strong new growth (plus fertilise with special rose feed). • Prune clematis - prune early-flowering varieties once their flowers have finished and summer-flowering ones before they start into active growth. Check our clematis pruning guide for more detailed instructions. • Finish cutting back cornus and salix cultivars, and other shrubs grown for their colourful winter stems. Cut them right back to their bases. • Cut out the top rosette of leaves from mahonia shrubs after they have flowered, to
encourage branching. • Finish cutting back dead foliage from perennials and ornamental grasses to make way for new growth. • Prune overwintered fuchsias back to one or two buds on each shoot. • Prune winter-flowering jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) after flowering, to encourage new growth for next year’s blooms. Cut back the previous year’s growth to 5cm from the old wood. • Trim winter-flowering heathers as the flowers disappear, to prevent the plants becoming leggy. • Cut the old leaves off hellebores to remove any foliar diseases and make spring flowers more visible. • Continue to deadhead winter pansies to stop them setting seed. This will encourage flushes of new flowers throughout the spring. • Deadhead daffodils as the flowers finish and let the foliage die back naturally. • Deadhead hydrangeas before new growth appears. Cut to about one third of last season’s growth.

Spiced Chicken & Winter Veg Tin Roast
Preheat your oven to 200°C/Fan 180°C/Gas 6. Scrub the potatoes and slice them into bite-size chunks (no need to peel them). Slice the roots and skin off the celeriac, leaving as much flesh behind as possible, then chop it to match the potatoes. Tumble the veg into a large roasting tin. Trim and scrub the carrots and parsnips (no need to peel). Halve the carrots and parsnips lengthways. Quarter the apples and slice out the cores. Add the carrots, parsnips and apples to the tin. Dust over 1 tbsp Bombay spice blend and season with a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Drizzle with 2 tbsp oil and toss together to coat in the spices. Spread the veg out to make a single layer, then nestle the chicken thighs and drumsticks in the tin. Slide into the oven and roast for 25 min. Lift the chicken out onto a plate, and use a spatula to turn the veg over. Pop the chicken back on top and return to the oven for 20-25 mins, till the chicken is cooked through and the veg are tender and a little caramelised at the edges. Just before serving, pick the mint leaves off their stalks and thinly slice them. Finely chop the coriander leaves and stalks. Divide the chicken and veg between warm plates and serve with dollops of the yogurt, topped with the chopped herbs, a pinch of black onion seeds and wedges of lemon on the side for squeezing.

Into the blue?
How to decorate with the colour of the year
Pantone have announced the colour of the year for 2020: Classic Blue is a calming, yet bold shade of dark blue - somewhere between azure and navy. So how can you use this colour successfully in your home? Adding a splash of blue can create drama and calm in equal measure. Accessorise with mustard, dusky pink or coral for added effect.

In high school, he was a basketball phenom with a full university scholarship, when suddenly, for reasons unknown, he walked away from the game, forfeiting his future. Now years later, Jack is spiraling down, triggered by an unspeakable loss, and drowning in the alcoholism that cost him his marriage and any hope for a better life. When he is asked to coach the basketball team at his alma mater, which has fallen far since his glory days, he reluctantly accepts, surprising no one more than himself. As the boys start to come together as a team and win, Jack may have finally found a reason to confront the demons that have derailed him. is in the care
Care workers at Anya Court Care Home in Rugby, shared the love this Valentine’s Day by giving out over 60 roses to their residents. The wooden roses were distributed by the care team to residents at the awardwinning residential and dementia home as an acknowledgment of how much they mean to them this Valentine’s Day and a celebration of how much they care. The special day was rounded off with team members wearing red for the occasion, an afternoon tea, where tables were dressed with fine china, and a Valentine’s Day themed quiz. Lifestyles Team Leader at Anya Court Care Home, Sue Mitchell said: ““Valentine’s Day is such a special day at Anya Court and we make a real effort to show residents how much we care and how much we appreciate them. “The aim of this activity is to make our residents feel special this Valentine’s Day, and let them know we are there for them as we care for them, and value our relationship with them as our greatest asset. “Many of the residents haven’t received a rose in years, while others have never received a rose in their lifetime. We hope giving them a rose this Valentine’s Day will bring a smile to their face and show them how much we care.” Resident at Anya Court, Eddie Checketts, 89, said: “What a lovely surprise! I wasn’t expecting it.” Anya Court Care Home is part of Hallmark Care Homes, the award-winning care provider established in 1997 with 19 care homes across England & Wales. Anya Court provides residential, dementia and cursing care.

Now, in addition to Hinckley, Warwick, Rugby and Bedworth the company is proud to announce the impending opening of our new Nuneaton store. James puts this success down to being a family company with real family values. And with nearly 3,000 renovations successfully completed they look forward to future growth.
