Focus on... Litter picking

Rugby Litter Busters was started when local lady Becca Stevenson decided to go out and make a difference in her local area in 2021, having been inspired by seeing someone else litter picking.

After creating a Facebook Group in 2021 the group has gone from strength to strength and now has almost 700 members, and Rugby is certainly looking better for their combined efforts.
You may have seen people litter picking in various parts of Rugby, often with high viz jackets, gloves and a litter grabber – and usually surrounded by blue bin bags, which are supplied by, and then, once full, collected by Rugby Borough Council. The Facebook group is called Rugby Litter Busters and anyone wanting to get help and make a difference is encouraged to join the friendly group and get involved. Group litter picks are organised but most people just go out in their own area where they see a need.
The Facebook group has guidelines on how to get started, health & safety and where to get equipment from etc, as well as details of how to notify the council of full bags that need collecting. Rugby Borough Council supply the bags from their depot on Hunters Lane and also loan out litter pickers/grabbers. Becca collates information on where has been litter picked and how many bags have been collected etc and this year alone the group have collected a whopping 1288 bags, versus the 1583 collected throughout the whole 2022, confirmation that the group has grown, the need is there and the volunteers in Rugby are incredible in giving their time and effort to the cause.

So if you want to help and can spare the odd hour or two, just go to the Facebook Page and all the information is there for you start Wombling!
