Editors Letter... Hi everyone and welcome the June Edition.... Can you remember the weather this time last year in lockdown 1? The sun was shining most days and we could all enjoy being outside a lot. This year isn’t quite the same is it? I’m keen to get out for my health walk every day, which isn’t a long walk but has proved challenging as its been so wet throughout May - and crutches and rain don’t go well together!
To all the dads & grandads out there I wish you all a very Happy, Chilled Fathers Day for the 20th. I hope the sun shines for you all.
Being able to go to the shops and eat out is so nice though now. I’ve managed to catch up with a few friends over the past few weeks in person and I’m swimming for rehab on my ankle - all of which is making life feel a little bit more ‘normal’ again.
Have a lovely, hopefully sunny, June everyone
Anne

Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. John 14 Jesus emphasises the importance of Bible prophecy because it is the foundation on which the truth of the Bible, and the existence of the One True God, is built. But bearing in mind the many criticisms of the Bible’s credibility like that of the ‘American Humanist Society’ who say, “They are convinced the book was written solely by humans in an ignorant, superstitious, and cruel age.” As a first step, we held a Zoom Seminar earlier this month to test some of the criticisms of Bible prophecy. This was very well received by all present, and as others asked to see it, we decided to put it on our website for anyone interested to view. So, we invite you to visit our website to seen a Zoom recording of this interesting Bible presentation. You can ask questions at the end, and read articles on the truth of the Bible and much more. Rugby-based company diversifies its business despite COVID-19 impact Established Rugby business, Stonewall Security Ltd, celebrated its 13th Birthday at the beginning of May by starting the construction of Rugby’s first Safety Deposit Centre. With steep declines in burglaries during the pandemic, it stands to reason that it will be mirrored with steep inclines as we return to normal. Criminals will be looking to re-coup their losses! Statistics show, 1 in 4 households are underinsured and a claim may not cover all losses. The Directors themselves were burgled 4 years ago and despite having valuables locked away in a safe, the thieves stole the safe! Sadly, they were only able to re-coup half the value of the contents. And so, the idea of Stonewall Vaults was born… With steady growth of sister company, Stonewall Security, and the help of a Government-backed Loan, the team at Stonewall Security are proud to announce, that after 4 years planning, Stonewall Vaults will open in August 2021. Director, Clare Randall, commented: “We’re very pleased to be launching Stonewall Vaults. Our own experience recognises that there’s a huge need for safety deposit boxes within the Midlands and we’re excited offer a tailored solution.” 2 minutes from J1 of the M6 we are ideally located for the Midlands and Northamptonshire. Visit our website; www.stonewallvaults.co.uk; follow us on Facebook; @StonewallLimited and @stonewallVaults for updates on the development as well as open day invites and early offers. About Stonewall Vaults Stonewall Vaults is the Midlands newest safety deposit centre, for all your valuable storage needs. The vaults are guarded 24/7 for complete peace of mind, and are suitable for important documents, jewellery and more.

BSc Holistic Nutritionist, Natural Health Journalist and Wellbeing Expert
- shares her thoughts on resisting the doldrums
The 10th to 16th of May, was Mental Health Awareness Week; I loved the suggested “Five Ways to Wellbeing,” which included the importance of social connectedness, physical activity, awareness, learning and giving. The theme for the year is Nature and with lockdown how much more important it has been to get outside and enjoy the beautiful Warwickshire Countryside and of course “Moving that Body,” always helps improve our mental and physical health. On Wednesday afternoons, I run a zoom meeting called Tea and Positivity. We are an eclectic group, and we have some fun and interesting discussions. Recently we discussed the need to keep positive in these difficult times; I personally believe we all have “Covid Fatigue!” Each member of the group shared their tips on how they avoid the doldrums or “black dog” as some call it. I guess many of us have struggled with the demon depression over the last year. The recent news of this new Indian variant now affecting people here in the UK. The rumblings that the June 21st release from restrictions may not happen made me think that you may need some help in dealing with those doldrums and negativity that threaten our mental and physical wellness. The mind is inextricable connected to our overall sense of wellbeing so how can we remain positive when things get difficult? The following will hopefully help you keep strong and positive over the coming weeks.
Be kind to yourself and others. Kindness is contagious and it makes us feel good when we share and improve the lives of our fellow men. It is not complicated, a simple smile to a stranger can improve their day. Remember to also be kind to yourself – none of us are perfect so do not beat yourself up if you have done or said the wrong thing. Forgive yourself and focus on the things you get right. We cannot change the past, embrace the now. Live life one moment at a time. Stop moaning and grumbling! This can be a bad habit which we may all be guilty of at times, especially now. Listen in
to your internal dialogue, become more conscious of what you are saying to others. Ask yourself, are these thoughts useful? When someone asks how you are why not say, “I feel fantastic today, thank you,” even if you are not feeling so great by saying those words out loud amazingly you will feel better. Interestingly if we fake a smile then our nervous system reacts and makes us feel better and then we smile more. Give it a try.
Create an attitude of gratitude Life is not easy at the moment but take a little time out each day to focus on the things
in your life that you can be grateful for; simple things that we often take for granted, e.g., hot running water, clean air to breathe, the millions of miracles of nature, your family, your friends. And most important your health; if you are fortunate enough to be experiencing good health this really is the most precious thing you own and the thing for which you should be most grateful. Doing a Gratitude Diary each day can be a great way of discovering just how fortunate you are and will help you become more aware of all the blessings in your life. I must apologise here to anyone who is struggling with their own health or the health of a loved one. I know how hard it can be to feel grateful when it feels life is conspiring against you, but my experience has shown me that even the worst times pass and endeavouring to stay positive and grateful will help you.
Value your family and friends they are so important for our mental and physical wellbeing – we are social beings, and
we thrive on that connectedness, it is essential for our mental health. Hopefully, we will return to a more normal life very soon and how wonderful it will be to visit and hug our loved ones. This awful time has given us the opportunity to reflect and appreciate more than ever, the ones we love.
Live with joy and health. Elizabeth Beetham www.powerforhealth.com healing@powerforhealth.com Tel: 07773 790736

Since 2000, Warwickshire Open Studios has been helping artists and designer makers across the Warwickshire and Coventry area connect with art lovers who enjoy, buy, commission and participate in their work www.wostudios.org are a self-funded membership organisation run by a voluntary team who are mostly artists themselves. Our Summer Art Weeks event is open to all from passionate amateurs to professional artists and attracts an average of 30,000 visits each year. The event is a true celebration of the variety and quality of visual art that can be found across Coventry and Warwickshire; it includes paintings, photography, installations, ceramics, glassware, stoneware, jewellery, drawings, printmaking, textiles and metalwork. Artists and designer makers are creative about where they show their work: it could be at home, in a studio, workshop or garden. Pop-up exhibitions are sometimes held in shops, cafes, offices, barns, museums and church halls. Installations have even taken place in allotments, canal basins and railway carriages! Warwickshire Open Studios organise the county’s biggest FREE arts event and the annual Summer Art Week’s run over two weeks through June/July. It’s a friendly, relaxed way to view art in artists’ various locations and it is becoming more popular with visitors each year. This year due to Covid-19 we will be producing an e-brochure online to help you discover those favourite artists and plan your visits. So pour yourself a glass of wine, make a cup of tea or coffee, put your feet up and view www.wostudios.org decide which route to take for art or craft, artist or designer maker open for visitors and map your visits. Following the success of the 2020 virtual event #artweeksfromhome Warwickshire Open Studios are going to repeat this for 2021 alongside the physical event. Participating artists have a dedicated profile page where they have 12 images of work, a series of themed videos showcase a taster of artists and designer makers work.
by: Dot Crowe of Cleves Garden Studio Representing Warwickshire Open Studios-Rugby Contact: clevesgardenstudio@hotmail.com t: 01788 891465 Beat those lockdown blues: see our inspirational artworks at Art in Dunchurch in June and July! In partnership with Warwickshire Open Studios Summer Art Weeks 2021, we are delighted to announce that Dunchurch, once again, will be the venue for one of largest gatherings of talented, local artists in this part of the county since our last highly commended show in 2019. Eighteen artists representing a wide range of artistic disciplines will be showing, demonstrating and selling their work over seven days in the picturesque, historic village of Dunchurch, only a couple of miles from the M45 and famous for its connection with the Gunpowder plot. Our amateur and professional artists include print makers, weavers, painters, sculptors, potters and wood turners. There will be opportunities to chat to the artists under cover in the tranquil walled gardens of Inglenook a 16th century cottage in the heart of the conservation area in the village. It is sure to be an enjoyable and educational event for all ages, and interests with demonstrations of some artists at work. We hope to provide refreshments in Inglenook’s delightful cottage garden courtyard. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing in our passion for creating a wide range of practical and decorative wares. If there is something special you want our artists and makers to produce, they will only be too happy to tell you about how to commission their work. There are so many other talented artists and makers across the Rugby area too so why not treat yourself and make a whole day or weekend to explore the Summer Art Weeks across the rest of the Borough? Come and see us at Inglenook, Coventry Road CV22 6NH. Do you know what probate is? When I first chatted to Julie Hughes of Hughes Probate Services, I was confident that I knew what probate was. How wrong I was. There is so much more to know and understand before we find ourselves in a situation where we need it. Julie has over 20 years’ experience in this field and shares with us here, a lot of information and guidance to help break down the processes and understand the ‘jargon’. Julie often gets asked – Why did you choose to go into Probate Law? and her answer is quite simple – Because she likes and cares about people. During a time of grief and loss Julie is able to help by giving a focus in a sympathetic, understandable and professional way. Julie listens, makes sure she understands each unique situation and advises & guides accordingly. Going through a legal process while grieving can be difficult but with Julie by your side, supporting you, guiding you, it can make all the difference. Here Julie share with you some terminology and explain what each means:
Will
For a will to be valid: it must be in writing, signed by the testator in the presence of two witnesses, the testator must have the mental capacity to make the will and understand the effect it will have. He/she must have made the will voluntarily. If you are dealing with someone’s estate after death and you are unsure what the Will means or if it’s valid I can help. I’ll take a look at it and advise you on the next steps.
Executor of a Will
Executors are responsible for ascertaining the assets and liabilities of the person who has passed. Only once these details are known can you apply for the probate. But how do you know which are which and what is an asset and what liabilities can be deducted when applying for Probate.
Probate
Probate is the legal process you must go through in order to get the legal authority to deal with a deceased person's Estate. If there is a Will then an application for a Grant of Probate is applied for and Letters of Administration if there isn’t a Will.
Inheritance Tax
Inheritance Tax (IHT) is only payable if the assets in a deceased’s estate exceed the IHT threshold which is currently £325,000. Inheritance tax is payable on monies over the threshold at 40%. There are some reliefs and exemptions that can be made. Did you know that an Executor or an Administrator can apply to use the unused threshold from the deceased’s spouse increasing the threshold on the second to die.
Estate
Property can be both real and personal property. An estate consists of all the property a person owns at the date of their death. It comprises all monies that are generated upon their death, such as through life insurance, bank accounts and land. All assets must be valued before applying for probate. How do you value a home and contents? Valuing is an important part of the Probate as you will need to calculate whether the Estate is liable for Inheritance Tax and, if so, how much. This information is then submitted to HMRC. It’s important to obtain realistic valuations and there are set processes to follow. Whatever your situation, whatever your question or need. Don’t hesitate to Call Julie at Hughes Probate Services for professional, compassionate and supportive advice. You may not need her services right at this moment but keep hold of this article for if & when the time comes.

Face-to-Face Consultations with your Doctor... Are they out of date and no longer needed?
In recent years some doctors, NHS managers, The Secretary of State for Health and companies manufacturing the IT equipment, have suggested that in future contact between patients and health professionals should be via the internet or telephone. There are many occasions when only a face-to-face consultation will give the Doctor the true picture and allow him or her to make the correct diagnosis. You cannot examine someone fully by phone or video. A photo over the internet nor video give reliable evidence of pallor, jaundice etc or the exact appearance of a mole or lump or degree of stiffness and tenderness of muscles. My training as a doctor always stressed the importance of watching the patient as they entered the room - the manner of their walking, their demeanour, body language and their complexion before any questions were asked.. Since the start of the NHS in 1948 we have got used to having easy access to our GP with face-to-face consultations for most if not all health problems. But Coronavirus has changed all of that. Out of necessity the NHS rapidly introduced telephone triage, that is assessment before deciding which patients should be offered face-to-face consultation. This protected both patients and staff from risk of coronavirus infection by isolating them from unnecessary close contact. Both the Royal College of General Practitioners and the Secretary of State have recently said that telephone consultations and video consultations would remain central to the future of General Practitioners practice. They have both commented on the shortage of GPs as well as other staff in the NHS. In 2015 there were 0.52 GPs per 1,000 population, today there are 0.46 GPs per 1,000 population. In other Western countries there are on verage 3.5 GPs per 1,000 population according to the BMA. Requests for GP appointments have increased by almost 20% since 2020. In Rugby, the fastest growing town in England, there is an urgent need for new Primary Health Care, Mental Health and Community facilities and staff. So will we be able to have face-to-face consultations with our GP again? What is the place of virtual telephone or video consultations ? Telephone triage and consultations were effective at the height of the pandemic when more patients could be assessed quickly. Some patients will continue to find this a convenient way of getting GP advice but it is not acceptable to all. There are occasions when a phone consultation alone will be safe, suffice and be found useful by both patient and clinician. Remote or virtual consultations have been found to be very useful in remote rural locations where distance and isolation make direct contact between patients and Primary Care Health Professionals is difficult. I can recall several occasions when only seeing the patient face-to-face gave me the information needed for the correct course of action. It is vital therefore that face-to-face consultations occur when needed. There are some people who cannot access the internet or use the telephone or who only feel comfortable talking directly to someone face-to-face. The shortage of doctors, the backlog of patients to be seen means that simply going back to the old way of working will not cope with the workload. The extra people with Mental Health issues as a result of the Lockdown is an added problem as Mental Health Services were already under resourced pre Covid19. In Rugby the announcement that the Vaccination Centre at Locke House will close at the end of June will allow Primary Care staff working there to return to their practices and will help but will not by itself solve the need for more staff. So a way of blending remote and in-person consultations is the way forward but it is clear that investment in technology must be accompanied by increased recruitment of Primary Care staff. The Government had already promised to recruit 6,000 extra GPs by 2024 but this was before the Pandemic in 2020. So a further commitment to staff recruitment in Primary Care from the Government is overdue. The responsibility for the correct use of remote or virtual health triage or consultations lies with the Primary Health staff so effective training for all staff needs to be a priority. The success of Coronavirus vaccination and the reducing Coronavirus numbers means that we can move cautiously towards more normal ways of life and working. So a return to more face-to-face consultations will ensue.

This super simple summer salad couldn’t be easier to make with the wonderful flavour combination of goat’s cheese and honey.
Toss the courgettes in 1 tbsp of the oil and season with salt and pepper. Heat a griddle pan until hot, then grill the courgettes on both sides, in batches, for 4-5 minutes until tender with clear char lines. Meanwhile, make the dressing. In a bowl, combine the remaining olive oil, olives, chilli, zest of the lemon and a squeeze of juice, oregano, vinegar, a drizzle of honey and plenty of salt and pepper. Arrange the courgettes on a platter and spoon over the olives and dressing, dot with the goat’s cheese and scatter with mint leaves. Drizzle with honey and serve.

This tart recipe is a wonderful way to celebrate the glorious gooseberry season in Britain. Sprinkling the base of the gooseberry pie with ground almonds or hazelnuts is a little trick to absorb the juice that the gooseberries release during baking so it does not become soggy.
For the filling: 350g gooseberries 2 tablespoons ground almonds or hazelnuts 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar Prep: 25 min |Cook: 1 hour Mix all ingredients for the base in a bowl and knead to a smooth ball. Wrap in cling film and refrigerate until firm, 1 to 2 hours. Wash, dry and trim the gooseberries, removing the blossom ends. Preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Grease a 20cm springform tin. Roll out about two-thirds of the base mixture to a 20cm circle and line the tin. Roll out the rest of the pastry and cut it into strips of even width. Use them to line the sides of the tin and gently press on them so they stick to the tin. Prick the bottom several times with a fork and sprinkle with the almonds. Cover with the gooseberries and 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar. Bake in the lower third of the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Meanwhile for the topping beat the egg with 50g sugar in a bowl, then add vanilla sugar, cornflour and cream. After 20 minutes baking time, pour the custard topping over the gooseberries and bake until set, about 30 more minutes. Then cover the top with baking parchment, reduce the oven temperature to 180 C / Gas 4 and bake until golden brown, 10 to 15 more minutes. The pie is done with a tester inserted in the centre comes out clean. Gently loosen the sides from the tin and and let cool completely while leaving the rim on.

JUNE GARDENING TASKS Summer time arrives! June 21 is the longest day of the year, and the extra light and warmth encourages the garden to put on an exuberant burst of growth. But this extra light and warmth also means weeds will sprout up from seemingly nowhere. Keep on top of them by hoeing regularly in dry conditions.
Hanging Baskets
These are my favourite plants for hanging baskets and can flower right up until October, without needing little attention, just watered daily. For a truly spectacular display, trailing begonia plants have it all. With a wide variety of colours to suit any garden scheme and long lasting flowers, they continue to bloom until the first frosts arrive. Perfect for hanging baskets, flower pouches and window boxes; trailing begonia plug plants offer outstanding performance no matter what the weather throws at them.
Box Topiary
If you haven’t cut back your box bushes or hedges already, Derby Day (4th June 2021) is traditionally the last chance to do so. Topiary shapes can be tricky to cut well at first, but with practice – and special topiary shears – you’ll find it gets easier. If you’re not sure about getting a decent shape it’s possible to buy frames; you simply place them over the plant and cut what comes through the frame.
Sow Poppies
Sow poppies – if sown direct now, many varieties flower within eight weeks. Poppies prefer to be sown direct rather than into a seed tray as they hate root disturbance. Follow the rule of the 4 T’s to succeed with direct sowing – sow into a fine tilth, at the right time (when the soil is warm and moist), sowing as thinly as you can, and then thin the seedlings to leave them spaced 10-12in (2530cm) apart.
