Editors Letter... Hi everyone and welcome to the January Edition of The Rugby Register I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and a peaceful new year so far. I wonder what 2020 holds in store for us all? Are you a resolution maker? If so, how is it going just a few days in? As a family we make a list each year of things we would like to do, places we would like to visit and goals we would like to achieve, some are small, some are bigger but one thing is for sure - no where on that list is - join a gym, get fit, lose weight - I’ve done them for too many years in the past only to have broken them by mid January! Now we opt for more achievable goals like: visiting a new city, finishing something in the house or garden, visiting friends we haven’t seen for a while, that type of thing. Its lovely each year to look back on them and see what we’ve ticked off. I’ve decided to keep the lists too, so that when the children are older we can look back and giggle at
some of the silly little things we had written down - like one of mine was: get a new blind for the lounge. Small, but having it written down made me focus and get it organised. Whatever your plans for the New Year I wish you well, I hope you have a wonderful start to 2020 and that the year is kind to you.
Anne
Take a look through our Health & well-being article on pages 22-25, these might be a wonderful place to start!

Misty Double Glazing?
Don’t replace the Frames ...just the Panes!
Hi, my name is Dave Millidge, let me introduce my company where I repair windows and replace misted up double glazed units.
Misted/Failed Double Glazed Units Replaced Broken or Damaged Windows? Faulty Hinges, Handles or Locks? Want the latest energy saving glass? Family run business with 25 year guarantee on new double glazed units
The area that I cover is Coventry and Warwickshire. You may have seen me around in your street or even have family and friends who I have worked for in the past ten years, with over 6,000 satisfied customers during that period. I started Misty to Clear to give customers the best value repairs in the current climate. The Misty to Clear website allows total transparency of the customer experience. You can log into the website and view work that I have carried out. You can also leave feedback on social media. Therefore, I give a 25 year guarantee on all new double glazed units fitted by Misty to Clear. This is a genuine guarantee which does not come as an extra to my price. I started Misty to Clear mindful that the cost of repairs is probably key to most people’s budget when using tradesmen to do work on their behalf in their homes. I offer a lower cost service to both old and new customers as I operate directly for the customer with no additional hidden charges or insurance costs to you the customer. So, my company name is Misty to Clear where I can offer steamed up window glass replacement and fix broken handles, hinges, seals, window locks and door locks.
OVER 25 YEARS EXPERIENCE
I also change glass in Velux windows too. Satisfaction guaranteed to be a high standard that carries a 25 year guarantee.
Clearly a great service! Wishing you a Happy New Year!

Wellbeing for your Mind a So another New Year starts and for many so do all the standard resolutions of ‘Get Fitter’, ‘Lose Weight’, ‘Join the Gym’, ‘Eat less rubbish food’ - the list goes on. This year we have teamed up with a number of local businesses to offer you some superb, expert advice and get you thinking differently. Read through all the articles over the next 4 pages and see what excites you.
How do you sleep? We’ve all had those nights where we toss and turn and just cannot seem to get to sleep. Whether we’re overthinking, overly stressed or uncomfortable, this can all impact the quality of your sleep and often the quality of your day. When we sleep well, we feel better, but what can we do about it? Here’s how you can promote a great night’s sleep… 1. Relax before going to bed At least an hour before bed turn off your tech… that’s TV, iPad, PC and your phone! The reduced level of stimulation will help your body to activate its relaxation mechanisms. Have a conversation or read a book. 2. Eat wisely Sleep quality is affected by what we consume, eating protein an hour or so before bed can also may help to improve sleep quality, but low calorie, high fat diets may reduce sleep. Zinc, magnesium, B- complex vitamins also help with asleep. 3. Take a bath Try taking a bath before you go to bed. The warm water will help to ease any tension in your muscles, help to warm the joints and generally soothe you. Add Epsom salts to your bath for an extra boost. 4. Change your routine Don’t exercise late in the day, your body systems won’t be so active close to bedtime, and everything has a chance to slow down and reset. Ensure you’re hydrated and don’t eat a heavy meal before going to bed. 5. Prepare your room If you can choose black out curtains, or wear a sleep mask- even the tiniest bit of light can disrupt our sleep cycles. #hyridtherapyuk #sleepbetter #holistichealth Tracy Richardson – Hybrid Therapy

Stay Injury free in 2020 January is a physical challenge. Unfortunately for some a sudden increase in activity can lead to pain and frustration. Here are our top tips to stay injury free so you can focus on getting fitter and achieving your goals. 1. Slow & Steady Enthusiasm can lead us to do ‘too much too soon.’ Your body needs time to adapt so make sure you build up slowly and have at least two rest days a week. 2. Mix it up Mixing things up and varying exercise will mean that you are working different muscle groups, and this will help prevent overload and fatigue. 3. Kit You don’t need to spend a fortune to get fit but for certain sports you will need to invest in some kit. Research what you need before you begin. 4. Seek advice Ask experienced people for advice on your fitness journey. 5. Sleep well Getting plenty of sleep is key to preventing and recovering from injury, so that’s a great excuse to get 8 hours sleep a night. At LMC Physiotherapy we offer injury prevention strategies including Pilates classes and running gait analysis. We are also highly experienced with our assessment/diagnostic skills and hands on treatments if you do sustain an injury, with the main focus of getting you back to fitness! Follow us social media for more advice about managing injury or visit our website lmcphysio.co.uk Laura McCrystal – LMC Physiotherapy

Body in 2020
We all have to find what works for us as we are all individual and all unique, therefore how we take care of ourselves must be that too. Time to look after our bodies and our minds is so very important and I hope this feature helps you to find something that will work for you throughout 2020, making it your year to be the best you can be!
Is group training for you?
Is back pain holding you back?
There are plenty of opportunities to join Group training these days, from classes at health and fitness clubs to outdoor boot camps. With so much to choose from, the most important thing is to find the right fit for you.
Back pain is an extremely common condition, in fact around 80% of adults will have an episode of back pain at some point in their life. The good news is it is very rarely dangerous (less than 2% of cases) and research has provided us with new insights into the best way to manage it. Gone are the days when we advise people to take up bedrest and avoid moving. Your back is stronger than you may think as the spine is a strong stable structure that is not easily damaged. Exercise is shown to be very helpful in managing back pain and getting moving early on will reduce the length of the pain episode and prevent long term problems. Of course, in the first few days of a new episode of back pain you may need to modify activities that aggravate your pain. However, it is important to stay as active as you possibly can and return to your normal activities over time.
Generally speaking, training in a group environment offers you more motivation than exercising on your own. When you’re training alongside others, you’re more likely to push harder than you would in a solitary workout. Also it’s a lot more fun! Classes are instructor-led and a good class is carefully planned to help you gain the most from each session. There’s a degree of accountability making you less likely to skip a workout - and an important added benefit is that you’ll make new friends along the way and support and motivate each other. Have fun when you work out and it won’t feel like work! I think I speak for all fitness professionals when I say please, don’t be discouraged if you’re not currently very fit or even a complete beginner... helping you enjoy exercise is the best part of the job! We all start somewhere, the most important thing is to start. - Hamilton. At 2fitness we offer a range of group exercise classes including Boxercise®, HIIT, Circuits, Mobility and Flexibility classes as well as one to one personal training. Get in touch and see how we can help you. www.2fitness.co.uk Ham Ngan – 2 Fitness
The key is to start moving gently and build up on the amount and intensity of the exercise. At Omnia Physio we recognise that this may not be so easy to do in practice. Whilst no one type of exercise has been shown to be better than another, Pilates is an effective and fun way to keep your spine strong and supple. We blend traditional physiotherapy exercises with Pilates to provide bespoke exercise programs that will get you back to doing the things you love as quickly as possible. Sam & Laura – Omnia Physio

Wellbeing for your Mind a Postnatal Exercising
Boost Your Wellbeing in 2020 with Tai Chi!
Ever thought you would never have the energy or drive to exercise, Back To It PT has 2 PTs Sinead and Laura, both mums of 3 and 2. But, whom both had sedentary jobs until falling in love with fitness. We practice what we preach, and love what we do!
Tai Chi is a centuries-old practise that gently balances mind and body. It has dual aspects of both healing and martial arts skills. The flowing, mindful movements, mental focus and physical balance used in Tai Chi are accessible to almost any age or physical condition. Tai Chi is a healing art and, like acupuncture, developed alongside the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. It strengthens the body, improves posture and balance, relaxes away stress and anxiety, and uplifts low mood. Tai Chi gathers energy - known as Qi and pronounced ‘Chi’, then flows the Qi and finally strengthens the Qi for holistic health, vitality and wellbeing.
We offer our extremely popular transformation camps, group and 1;1 Personal Training. Group sessions and camps are carried out in local community centres – We find this really helps form friendships and makes the sessions great fun. Our sessions are for adults of all abilities, and we specialise in pre & postnatal fitness (our owner Sinead, has just had her 3rd baby in 4 years, so she knows all about the importance of postnatal fitness)! What makes us different? We bring a lot of fun and energy to our sessions, we don’t don’t use funky jargon, we just get results – And, we have built a real fitness family off the back of this. Our classes are accessible for everyone and they’re non-judgemental. Mums bring babies and / toddlers to midweek daytime classes, or you can simply get away from the chaos of home life by coming to our midweek evening or weekend classes.
Benefits for Your Body and Mind A wealth of research has confirmed the benefits of regular Tai Chi practise. In one study, physical fitness tests showed better balance, upper and lower body strength, endurance and flexibility of people practising Tai Chi after just 12 weeks. Regular Tai Chi practise…
1;1 sessions take place in your home, we find this reduces time commuting to a gym, waiting for equipment or untangling those head phones – No excuses, 100% dedicated time to you and your fitness plan!
· Strengthens the upper and lower body
You are guaranteed to get results, meet new people and have fun along the way! You will actually fall in love with fitness, we promise!

Chronic Pain Management Over one third of UK population suffers from ‘Chronic pain’, which is also known as ‘Persistent pain or stubborn pain’. Chronic pain is distressing and disabling physically and emotionally. Many cannot work and lose their jobs. Acute pain from trauma can last for few weeks. Poorly managed acute pain contributes to chronic pain. Chronic pain is usually due to ‘non tissue related factors; such as sensitivity of the nervous system, individual perception towards pain and etc. Persistent pain leads to sedentary life style in an attempt to prevent flare-ups. They are unable to carry out daily activities and enjoy their hobbies, such as walking, running, playing golf, tennis etc. Role of Exercises in managing chronic pain Chronic pain management involves multi disciplinary approach. This includes Therapeutic exercises which can revert stiffness and pain, improving mobility. Low impact cardio work outs can help with tissue warm ups, regular stretching exercises like yoga can help with tissue elongation, and gradual strengthening exercises improves muscle strengthening. This in turn helps them to return to their in daily activities and hobbies with greater ease. But, it is important to stop the exercises and seek professional advice if pain is worsening with activities. Multidisciplinary team can help to reduce the pain which enables the individual to engage with their physical activities or hobbies. Elizabeth Beetham BSc Holistic Nutritionist, Natural Health Journalist and Wellbeing Expert shares her knowledge for a
Happy and Healthy 2020
Firstly, let me wish you all a Very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2020. It’s a wonderful New Year and new beginnings spring to mind and those dreadful New Year Resolutions! How many resolutions have you made and broken over the past ten years? How about not making any this year and instead set yourselves some attainable goals? Of course, I hope that looking after your health and fitness will be high on your list of goals because by just making a few subtle changes you can really improve your health in 2020. To start, I feel that after all the overindulgence of the Festive Season we would all benefit from a detox or cleanse. Many health problems can be caused by a build-up of man-made toxins in the body. Toxins are any substances that have a detrimental effect on cell function or structure. There are four main groups of toxins; first, heavy metals including lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, nickel and aluminium. Accumulation of heavy metals in the body can result in damage to the brain, kidneys and immune system. Second there are chemical toxins for example pesticides, food additives, drugs and alcohol; ingesting these substances can result in poor immune function, disorders of the nervous system, respiratory problems and increased incidence of cancer. Thirdly, microbial compounds which are waste products from bacteria and yeasts in the gastrointestinal tract; these may cause a number of disorders, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The fourth group are the end products of protein metabolism which include substances such as ammonia and urea which are normally excreted; these have toxic effects if allowed to accumulate in the body. When we eat too many rich heavy meals, drink too much alcohol, ingest sugar, salt and bad fats the body works hard to break down these unwanted substances. This process is conducted not just by the liver but the spleen, stomach, lungs, colon, lymphatic system, kidneys and even the skin. The body is incredibly clever at eliminating excess or harmful elements from itself but at this time of year a cleanse can be highly beneficial. Although there are many products on the market that claim to help with this process, I believe that the following can be just as effective without any major cost involved. It is certainly worth a try and you can let me know how you get on. For the next two weeks simply eliminate all processed foods, caffeine, alcohol, sugary and fried foods and
red meat. Drink plenty of water at least 6 to 8 glasses a day, increase the fibre in your diet (we all need at least 30g per day) and eat plenty of natural antioxidant foods found in fresh fruit and vegetables. For example, cherries, raspberries, and strawberries which contain ellagic acid, help clean up free radicals and boost brain power. Eat citrus fruit, e.g. clementine, tangerines, and satsumas which are packed with vitamin C and are an easy snack to take to work and can satisfy those sweet cravings. Grapes are rich in flavonols which cleanse the arteries. Prunes are a natural colon cleanser and stimulate the gut to expel waste. Try my recommendations and I am sure you will really feel much healthier. If you are concerned that you have stressed your liver recently in particular with too much alcohol, then milk thistle is a wonderful antioxidant herb. It was used by Dioscorides the Greek physician 2,000 years ago because of its effectiveness in cleansing and protecting the liver. Good luck if you are undertaking “Dry January,” as I am writing this on a very gloomy day, I am not committing to doing it yet! This year please think about your long-term health and consider what being a couch potato is doing to your body; prevention is much better than cure. As the saying goes - if you don’t use it you lose it so remember to “move that body”, use those muscles to build a healthier you. Some people need a goal, perhaps signing up for a 5 or 10k run; some will need a friend to encourage them and some will not know where to start. If you need any help please contact me, I will be running my Healthy Living for Life Programmes from mid-January. First decide and then take action, make a start this week, we don’t achieve anything without that first step. If you have any health issues, please consult your doctor before you start an exercise or detoxification programme. Live with joy and health. GARDENING JOBS FOR JANUARY It’s cold outside so I’ve suggested gardening jobs which you can do mainly indoors this month.
o Grow yo ur
Did you know how easy it is to grow your own Mistletoe? During January keep the mistletoe berrys in a tub close to the window.
M is tle t o e n w
February is the time to press mistletoe berries into the bark of trees (apple/hawthorne their preferred hosts) to establish your own mistletoe plants. In February, if the berries have been stored, rehydrate them for a few hours in a little water. Whether fresh or stored, the seed needs to be squeezed out of the berry – you’ll find they come out enclosed in a ball of sticky jelly-like viscin. Collect several of these sticky seeds on your fingers. You’ll find they stick onto you rather well, and this is a convenient place to keep whilst planting on the tree. Try to remove as much of the jelly-like gluey viscin as possible they will still stick on perfectly well with only a little glue remaining. Try to plant as many as possible, at least 20 berries at once, divided between 4 or so branches. Its as simple as that, but Mistletoe is slow growing for the first four years, so do not expect bunches of mistletoe for next Christmas!

If its too cold to garden outdoors why not try growing microgreen in your windowsill. These seeds can be grown within a matter of a days/couple of weeks. Ready to spinkle on food and in sandwiches. Not just the childhood favourite of cress - but try cauliflower, cabbage, chia, corriander, mustard, radish.
• Choose a shallow plastic tray and fill with fine seed soil. Push it down to compact it and sow seeds as per packet instructions. Water in and harvest when they develop the first pair of true leaves. Stagger your sowing for a continuous crop. • Check the packet of seeds for advice on individual planting methods. In a bucket, moisten the organic potting soil with water (moist but not soaked). Fill the trays/ containers with soil to within 1/2 inch of the top of each container. Level the soil with your hand. Sprinkle the seeds across the entire soil surface. For smaller seeds, like the radish, broccoli raab, and arugula, you want 1/4 inch spaces between seeds. Make sure each seed is in contact with the soil surface (otherwise they will not germinate). Mist the seeds with a spray bottle (which will gently push the seeds into the soil) until the soil surface is damp. Stack the containers on top of each other and place an empty container on top. The stacking keeps the seeds in the dark and in contact with the soil, ideal for germination. Keep the trays in a warm place (ideally between 72-75 degrees) for about 3-5 days. Each day check the moisture, if they are dry, mist with water. After about 3-5 days, as the seedlings start to push up, they are ready to be put under the light. Place the containers in front of a windowsill. Make sure to keep the soil moist. The microgreens need about 12 to 14 hours of light per day. Rotate the trays every few days so that all the seedlings get equal exposure to sunlight. Harvest the seedlings with scissors when the leaves are fully formed and are about 2-4 inches long (a few days to a week or so, depending on the microgreen). Enjoy! Use a bit as garnish to liven up just about any dish. Note the microgreens can be stored in the fridge for up to a weekor just harvest as needed.

Waves: Release Date 17 January The Plot: Set against the vibrant landscape of South Florida, and featuring an astonishing ensemble of award-winning actors and breakouts alike, Waves traces the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family—led by a wellintentioned but domineering father—as they navigate love, forgiveness and coming together in the aftermath of a loss. From acclaimed director Trey Edward Shults, Waves
is a heartrending story about the universal capacity for compassion and growth even in the darkest of times. The Personal History of David Copperfield: Release Date: 24 January The Plot: From birth to infancy, from adolescence to adulthood, the good-hearted David Copperfield is surrounded by kindness, wickedness, poverty and wealth, as he meets an array of remarkable characters in Victorian England. As David sets out to be a writer, in his quest for family, friendship, romance and status, the story of his life is the most seductive tale of all.

Just Mercy: Release Date: 17 January The Plot: A powerful and thought-provoking true story, ‘Just Mercy’ follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds—and the system—stacked against them.

RECURRING DANGERS Ajit Barot and Barrie Bemand are members of the Rugby Health & Care Improvement Forum (RHCIF), a small group of retired NHS & Social Services professionals. They spread information about the NHS and Social Care and the need for long term investment & planning to our MP, leaders of the local NHS, other politicians and the press. Their aim is to support our NHS & Social Care and try to keep the general public informed. Many diseases described in medical text books are now rare in countries with adequate water and sewage systems, good housing and well cooked wholesome food. But infections still threaten us with death, discomfort, disability and dementia. To prevent or make less serious these diseases it is recommended that, from the age of eight weeks to over seventy years, people should be given vaccines against twenty four diseases! Influenza occurs each winter with new strains of the virus demanding laboratory checks on vaccine manufacture. Measles thought to have been eradicated in the UK is recurring. Poliomyelitis, “infantile paralysis” eradicated in most parts of the world, persists in areas where vaccination against the disease is discouraged, often violently. Rubella In patients who are not pregnant this disease may have such few symptoms it does not get reported Only one patient was reported in the second quarter of 2019. Mumps In the second quarter of this year, 2028 cases of mumps were reported mainly in the age groups 14 to 25. Mumps is most unpleasant and very occasionally dangerous. Smallpox once killed 30% of patients with the disease. The last patient in the world with smallpox was a cook in Somalia who recovered in 1979 and became active in polio vaccination work! The last death was in 1978. Targeted use of smallpox vaccination in many countries was responsible for this eradication. Does vaccination work? Such questions should be asked particularly by parents who are asked to have their children vaccinated at the age of 8, 12 and 16 weeks, 12 months, at school entry and in their teens. For example here is an answer to questions about measles vaccine, introduced to UK in 1964 :Year Number of measles cases Deaths from measles 1959 539,534 98 1980 139,487 26 2015 91 2016 541 1 2017 283 1 2018 989 These figures plus medical advice might convince parents to accept vaccinations Discredited research in 1998 suggesting MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine caused autism, was frightening. Fewer people were vaccinated. In some areas rates fell from 95% needed to prevent outbreaks, to 78% of children. “Anti vaccine” opinions world wide, unsupported by good evidence, were followed by a rise in measles. An unprotected unvaccinated person can spread the disease a few days before he or she is ill. There is a risk is that such a person may pass the disease on to someone whose vaccinations are not yet complete or who is one of the few people who have some other disease, such as aids, for whom some vaccines are dangerous. Accepting vaccination for yourself and your children protects you and, your children and others. SOME REASONS WHY RECOMMENDED VACCINATIONS ARE NOT ACCEPTED;1. Forgetfulness. 2. Too busy to attend GP or clinic. But vaccines can be administered by community pharmacists. 3. Anti vaccination propaganda unjustly blaming vaccines for death or disability. 4. Fear of side effects which are often nil but there may be a sore arm or slight fever 5. Objection to vaccination because animals are used in the research. 6. Belief that the disease in question is rare. To help control and eliminate measles at least 95% of the population needs vaccination…….and measles is no longer rare 7. Fear of needles. Modern needles are so small and sharp they may hardly be felt You, if suspicious of experts and authorities, may choose not to have vaccinations for yourself or your children. In parts of the USA unvaccinated children are refused entry to schools. In the UK vaccination is not compulsory, but was against smallpox in the nineteenth century. Should our freedom of choice in this matter be allowed to endanger the health of other people? Perhaps restriction of choice may be the price we need to pay for living in a community. 4 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil 8 boneless skinless chicken thighs 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepperd 237 ml fresh apple cider 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard 3 medium firm cored and cut into 1/2-inch slices 2 teaspoons chopped fresh rosemary
Method Cooking Time 30 Mins Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a large skillet over medium high. Sprinkle the top of the chicken evenly with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, add the chicken to the pan, top-side down. Let cook 4 minutes, then flip and continue cooking until the meat is cooked through, 3 to 4 additional minutes. Remove to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm. In a small bowl or large measuring cup, stir together the apple cider and mustard. With a paper towel, carefully wipe the skillet clean. Add the remaining 2 teaspoons of oil to the pan over medium high. Once the oil is hot, add the apple slices, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and rosemary. Cook for 5 minutes, until the apples are lightly tender and begin to turn golden. Return the chicken to the pan and pour the cider mixture over the top. Let cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until the liquid is reduced by half. Serve warm, sprinkled with additional chopped rosemary as desired.

10 reasons to fit faux wood shutters in your home this year Faux wood shutters combine the traditional warmth and beauty of natural wood with the practical advantages of high–tech materials and intelligent design. Here are 10 reasons to choose faux wood shutters for your home. 1 Durable, versatile and stand the test of time
5 Great for unusual shaped windows
Faux wood shutters are extremely durable and long lasting. They are made from a quality, hard-wearing material that will stand the test of time and come with a 10 year guarantee*.
In properties that have unusual shaped windows like arches, trapezoids, or even triangular windows, finding a suitable window dressing can be an issue. Faux wood shutters are made bespoke to fit your exact window.
6 Noise reduction
Faux wood shutters are waterproof and so are perfect for wet or humid environments like kitchens, bathrooms and even wet rooms.
In addition to heat, shutters are a really effective way to help reduce noise pollution that may enter your home. They help to create a barrier across the window that absorbs noise.
2 Add value to your home Shutters are a great way to add value to your home as they are considered part of the fixtures and fittings that come with the house. Good quality shutters add timeless elegance, help to add curb appeal to a property and can even increase the resale value.
7 Easy maintenance Faux wood shutters are made from an advanced, solid-core composite material and their special finish stands up to moisture, heat, and ultraviolet rays without fading, denting, warping or chipping. This also makes them easier to clean than wooden shutters. They can even be showered down.
3 Flexible control of privacy and light The different styles that are available will meet different needs in terms of privacy and light control:
8 Made in the UK Faux wood shutters are made in the UK* which, as well as supports the culture of buying local, keeps the carbon footprint of your purchase low. Luxaflex shutter components are made in Derby and the shutters themselves are manufactured in Birmingham, right here in the Midlands.
Full height shutters provide maximum privacy and light control. Tier-on-tier shutters allow you to open up the top and bottom part of the window independently. Cafe style shutters cover only the bottom section of the window and leave the top part uncovered.
9 Short lead time
4 Energy efficient
Because the faux wood shutters are made here in the UK it means the leadtime is greatly reduced. Real wood shutters are mostly manufactured in China and have a much longer lead time of around 12 weeks. Typically faux wood shutters can be installed within 4 weeks from the point of order.
Shutters help to reduce utility bills by providing extra insulation between the interior of the room and the glass, improving the energy efficiency of your home. Shutters are ideal for keeping homes warm in winter and cool in summer.
10 Child-friendly One of the main concerns with other types of window dressing is the safety of children. Shutters don’t have any cords and the slats are simply moved by hand making them much safer for children to operate.
Tests on faux wood shutters showed a difference of 3ºc between a room with shutters closed compared to shutters open*.
