Editors Letter... Hi everyone and welcome to the February Edition of The Rugby Register I hope you have all had a nice January and if you have successfully done Dry January or Veganuary then a big well done from me. My will power dones’t allow me to do such drastic challenges like these! I did however, get for Christmas a NutriBullet and am having a veg & fruit smoothie everyday for lunch. This is for a few reasons; the health benefits and also the quickness in which it takes to prepare, because when I’m busy all day working I don’t always know what to have for lunch, so this is perfect and they taste lovely - well they do now I’ve got the hang of them!

Our newly refreshed website is now live, take a look: www.rugbyregister.co.uk Have an awesome February everyone and a Happy Valentines Day to all the romantics out there!

Anne

range of movement, is used more by Osteopaths than Chiropractors. The philosophy behind osteopathy is that there is lack of circulation at the site of the injury and this dictates the type of manipulative procedure. Chiropractic and osteopathy have similar backgrounds and some techniques used are almost identical. Both disciplines are conducted by highly qualified professionals and the treatments offered have proved very beneficial for many people. Always remember the importance of good nutrition for your overall health. A healthy diet can help alleviate pain by reducing inflammation and raising levels of serotonins. Include bright coloured vegetables and fruit, oatmeal, seeds and oily fish.

Elizabeth Beetham BSc Holistic Nutritionist, Natural Health Journalist and Wellbeing Expert shares her thoughts on why is our food of such poor quality?

Live with joy and health. Elizabeth Beetham www.powerforhealth.com Now weelizabeth@powerforhealth.com have moved into this New Year I would be

The other alternative is to subscribe to one of the box schemes available which supply fresh organic produce costing between £11.75 for small vegetable box to £19.95 for a large box delivered free to your door. The boxes contain fresh produce, usually from local farms, which varies according to the season. I have used Riverford for years and can highly recommend them. The other huge benefit of buying locally is the reduction of food miles. I was reading recently that a dinner of chicken, runner beans, carrots, mange tout, sprouts and potatoes could have begun its journey in countries including Thailand and Zambia, with the ingredients covering a total of 24,364 miles before it reached the plate. By comparison a similar meal, but substituting British cabbage and parsnips for the beans and mange tout need only have traveled about 376 miles if bought from a farmers’ market. Imagine the difference in the impact of this one meal would make on the environment and more importantly on the improvement in community spirit when we support our local farmers. The food we eat provides the fuel our bodies need to give us energy. It should provide us with the necessary nutrients required to repair damage, provide protection from disease and keep us healthy. It is vitally important for health that we have the best diet available to us; foods that nourish us. We live in the fast food age which is having devastating affects on our health; the increase in heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes illustrates this fact. The changes that will really help you and your family ensure a healthier 2019 is to stop buying processed foods and start buying locally produced food. Let us take the power back from the Supermarkets. Live with joy and health. Elizabeth Beetham www.powerfforhealth.com elizabeth@powerforhealth.com Tel: 07773 790736

Bespoke Independent Financial Advice You Can Trust P J L F i n a n c i a l S e r v i c e s L t d was established in 2011 by our manager Paul Loveridge who has amassed over 20 years experience within the financial services industry, having grown steadily since then we are now a team of seven highly motivated and trustworthy individuals. We are a directly authorised firm of Independent Financial Advisers and Mortgage Advisers based in the midlands. We offer impartial financial advice on many aspects of both personal and business needs with our bespoke financial planning service. Here at PJL Financial Services the client really does come first and we understand and respect the fact that financial planning is not a one size fits all product, which is why our team of highly experienced professionals are committed to providing the very best advice for each individual client and we can guarantee that any advice given will be part of a bespoke package specifically tailored to you and your needs. We provide advice on mortgages, buy to lets, savings and investments, all aspects of retirement planning (personal pensions, company pensions, drawdown pensions and annuities), life and critical illness planning, income protection, insurances and estate planning. We often find that people have old, out of date policies and pensions which have not been reviewed for many years which may not be providing the best value for money anymore and by simply updating to a newer cheaper plan or even just altering the investment funds within an existing plan the potential returns can be dramatically improved.

Mortgage Consultancy - Free Consultations - Access to whole of the market - Over 20 years of mortgage experience - Access to exclusive deals - Supply of solicitors at your request - Advice and guidance throughout, from application to completion With our help, your house buying/ remortgage process can be simple and stress free.

If you need help or guidance with any area of your finances and plans for the future why not give us a call on 01 788 5 7112 2, we’ll be more than happy to discuss these with you and arrange a free, no obligation appointment either here at our Rugby based office or in the comfort of your own home.

Gardening Jobs for FEBRUARY Even though it may still be cold, damp and miserable outdoors, if we are lucky with the occasional dose of sunshine it may certainly put the gardening bug into you. Mother Nature may even send a few blossoms your way this month.

Cutting Back Ornamental Grasses - Ornamental grasses fall into two main groups, evergreen and deciduous. Deciduous grasses need cutting back annually so that they will look their best, ideally just as the new shoots are coming through. Just like lawns cutting new growths along with the old will not harm the plant. Evergreens just require a tidy-up. The easy bit about evergreens is that they can need little looking after for the first few seasons however a quick rake through or tidy in spring is always good to remove the worst of the old leaves.

D eal

Deal with Debris - Its time to deal with the waste material from the flower beds, gather up and put on the compost heap rather than burn, as many of the stems are still home to insects that will crawl from the heap when they hatch. The beds are raked clean in readiness for spring mulching and to make way for the bulbs.

Maintenance - When the weather allows, carry on clearing paths, check walls (but avoid concreting until there is no chance of frost), clean and insulate greenhouses and ensure heaters are working properly. Even a little insulation will make a huge difference to your heating bill. Clean and repair your garden tools, book the lawn mower in for a service and check garden furniture for any rot. When it is warm enough, treat sheds, fences and trellis with wood preservative; brushes and rollers are fine for most things, however a sprayer is well worth buying for tricky projects such as woven panels!

The top that fits on top! Tougher than stone, more flexible than wood, our Quartz, Granite & Recycled Glass surfaces are made to last. Yet at just a quarter of an inch thick, they are lighter than you ever thought possible. Known as ‘the top that fits on top’, it’s a winning combination of strength and slimline dimensions that has made Granite Transformations a household success around the world. You see, unlike any other hard surface finish, our materials are made to fit right onto existing worktops and tiles, bonding permanently to the original substrate. There’s little added depth, no need for ripping out the original surface, no necessity for added reinforcement, as with heavy granite slab, and no builder’s waste for disposal. Just a lastingly handsome, diamond-polished surface that is non-porous and resistant to heat, knocks, cuts and scratches. One that will grace your home for years to come, because unlike other solid surfaces, it is backed by our manufacturer’s lifetime material warranty! Why not pop into our showroom at 15 Regent Street, Rugby to see some of the possibilities! t: 01788 297852 w: granitetransformations.co.uk/rugby

On The Basis Of Sex: Release Date: 8 February The Plot: Set to be one of the year’s most inspiring and entertaining films, this is the powerful and timely true story of US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who led the fight against gender discrimination and blazed an unprecedented trail for equality. From being one of only a few women accepted at Harvard Law to co-founding the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU, Bader Ginsburg overcame all odds to become one of the most influential figures in the battle for equal rights, passionately arguing ground-breaking landmark cases and giving a voice to those unable to be heard. Lighting up the screen with fantastic performances, Felicity Jones stars as Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Armie Hammer as her husband Marty, a talented lawyer in his own right who offers unwavering support to his wife.

Anyone for Tea?... From green tea to hibiscus, from white tea to chamomile, teas are packed full of flavonoids and other healthy goodies. Regarded for thousands of years in the East as a key to good health, happiness, and wisdom, tea has caught the attention of researchers in the West, who are discovering the many health benefits of different types of teas. Studies have found that some teas may help with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes; encourage weight loss; lower cholesterol; and bring about mental alertness. Tea also appears to have antimicrobial qualities.

Health Benefits of Tea: Green, Black, and White Tea

black Tea is a name given to a lot of brews, but purists consider only green tea, derived all are They thing. real the tea pu-erh and tea, tea, white tea, oolong contain from the Camellia sinensis plant, a shrub native to China and India, and as ECGC, known these, of potent unique antioxidants called flavonoids. Health Benefits of Herbal Teas Made from herbs, fruits, seeds, or roots steeped in hot water, herbal teas have lower concentrations of antioxidants than green, white, black, and oolong teas. Their chemical compositions vary widely depending on the plant used. Varieties include ginger, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, hibiscus, jasmine, rosehip, mint, rooibos (red tea), chamomile, and echinacea. Limited research has been done on the health benefits of herbal teas, but claims that they help to shed pounds, stave off colds, and bring on restful sleep are largely unsupported.

Can Tea Be Bad for Your Health? Most teas are benign, but the FDA has issued warnings about so-called dieter’s teas that contain senna, aloe, buckthorn, and other plant-derived laxatives. The agency also warns consumers to be wary of herb-containing supplements that claim to kill pain and fight cancer. None of the claims is backed by science and some of the herbs have led to bowel problems, liver and kidney damage.

Soy

Recipes From Three Bistro in g er S al m o G n &

This meal was introduced to me by my ex-wife before we were married in a bid for her to become my wife. Obviously it worked. I say ‘worked’ although not entirely as we are now in fact divorced as the opening line probably implied. Up to that point I hadn’t tried a dish so simple yet so full of taste and goodness. Now in a bid to become healthier but avoid ‘Veganuary’ I have rediscovered this oriental gem of a meal and it has become my absolute favourite. The first time I had it, it was presented with Pak choi, but that was London and my then girlfriend was showing off! Now I like to pair it with brown rice, kale and broccoli.

The Ingredients Line caught Salmon Fillet: Either that or one you’ve caught yourself and hit over the head with a mallet, just kidding, just get it from the shop! Light Soy Sauce: Dark if you have to but try and be more prepared next time. Ginger: The fresher the better Honey: From the shop, farm shop or your favourite hive in the garden, whatever you got! Brown Rice: Those commonly found in a packet raw or microwavable, we’re not judging anyone here Broccoli: Not a favourite of George Bush Snr but I think it works well here and is more freely available than Pak choi. Kale: Gives it that Chinese seaweed feel without actually using seaweed The Method Skin the ginger and cut into thin 1 inch strips. Mix the light soy sauce and honey with a ratio of approximately 1:2 and add the ginger with a splash of rapeseed oil. Cut the broccoli florets in half and toss into a baking tray with a good few handfuls of Kale. Place the salmon fillets on the side and drizzle everything with the Soy mix. Bake for 15 minutes at 160 degrees. Meanwhile cook the rice or place a packet in the microwave or wait till the last few minutes if choosing the no hassle or work option. See my earlier recipes for the perfect rice. Once the salmon is done being careful not to overcook it or dry it out, then serve with the broccoli and Kale and drizzle over any remaining sauce from the tray. A taste of the Orient in less than 20 minutes and who knows this may make an appearance at ‘three’ or our new restaurant in Market Harborough for those who like to mix it up a bit.
