German Playhouse (Deutsches Schauspielhaus)

In 1900, the largest spoken theater in Germany, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus, was inaugurated. The Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer designed the neobaroque building based on the model of the Vienna

People's Theater. While in the first years of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus, mainly signi fi cant German authors shaped the program, the repertoire has developed over time into an experimental and international theater.

Hamburg Chamber Plays (Hamburger Kammerspiele)

The renowned building was erected in 1863. The chronicle of the house resembles a captivating novel. After the turmoil of the war, the Hamburger Kammerspiele was the first theater to be reopened.

Currently, the theater is a place for touching works, firstclass actors, and renowned directors. In recent years, the theater has also increasingly focused on contemporary plays that address social issues and provoke thought.
