We approach the summer season with energy and vigour after participating in the indoor winter league competition and coming a respectable 4th place. Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm. The weather may be against us, but we aim to play an inter-club “friendly” hardball game this Sunday, prior to starting the hardball league the following week. The fact we are growing as a team so quickly is testament, not only to the dedication and spirit of all the women who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game!

Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!
This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though
The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.
The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...
Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.
Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

Last weekend we made the long trip to Wiltshire to take on Oaksey After losing the toss, we were put in to bat on a spicy track with some balls popping and some keeping low Robins was looking to be positive though hit 2 4s in the first few overs, before being caught at cover In form man Deano then come out to bat and some quick running with Taz was going well until Taz was removed, shortly followed by Dean Jayner went out with a new positive mindset and this was looking good before he was bowled (can tell he hasn’t played football for a while) But the newly branded steady head of the team - Aaron Underwood lived up to his name with a controlled 47, allowing Alfie to come out and hit 3 6s in 2 overs! A late flurry from the tail saw us reach 183-8 and confidence in defending it The Oaksey openers had other ideas as they went all out attack from ball 1 They were getting away from us before Alfie come on and bowled the spell of his life taking 4-16 - being denied his 5 after a drop catch at cover We put up a good fight in the second half of the Oaksey innings but it wasn’t quite enough as they chased them down with 5 overs to go It was one of those days where, although disappointing, there were more important things to worry about as Kane had a bad turn when fielding, leaving everyone concerned, a huge thank you to the Oaksey boys for everything they done and hopefully he’ll be back before the season’s out
W or w e w d the benefit of b weather may be is Sunday, prior to starting the hardball leag ng as a team so quickly is testament, not on n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Another late call up to the firsts for me, plus vice-skipper Pete's unavailability, meant the 2nd XI captaincy was handed over to chairman Andy for last week's game This was something of a poisoned chalice, as the opponents were the unbeaten league leaders, Alvington & Woolaston A wicket maiden first up for Trent provided hope of an upset, but that was quickly quashed as the visitors went on to rack up 230 for 6 This total was boosted by a host of dropped catches as heads went down and belief drained from the team A&W continued their dominance with ball in hand, quickly removing the top three Bally and Andy patiently rebuilt before a hat-trick ripped through the middle order, and it was only thanks to some late resistance from Crossy and Harry that the team reached three figures, a big win for A&W giving them the title with 2 games to spare It's been a brutal run of fixtures for our young team in recent weeks, facing a string of strong lineups whilst suffering from the absence of experienced regulars I'm grateful to everyone who's pulled on the shirt in this tricky period Today will be another tough assignment against a resurgent Parkend, but if we can remain positive and pull together as a team, who knows - we may even replicate our win against them in the reverse fixture Up the Hill!

Last Thursday saw our final softball league game at home versus Aston Ingham. Losing the toss, AI decided to place us into bat. Kelly Mills requested to open with Iona Moore, as “she makes me run” and Iona lived up to this request Demonstrating how far we’ve developed this season, every opportunity for a run was taken, even at the expense of Kelly’s lungs! With only one wicket taken - Kay’s calling taking Scarlet by surprise causing a runout, we were in a positive position with 97 runs, significantly higher scores than last season. Knowing wickets give 5 further runs, the instructions to try and exploit this could make all the difference to the game Our fielding was tight, saving boundaries, apart from that one where Kay wanted to have a lie down on the field She redeemed herself with a brilliant run out and not to be outdone Iona did the same giving us 2 wickets. But Joss has to be woman of the match, taking a further 2 wickets, which included a nail biting final ball. AI required only 1 run to win the game, but a superb delivery from Joss, resulted in the batter hitting the ball high in the air With Lacey as a subfielder, running in from the boundary, she caught the ball to allow us to win the game! This win means we take 3rd place in the league, with our only defeats to 2nd and 1st place. This stands us in a great position for our finals day in a few weeks!
