Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!

This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though

The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.

The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...

Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.

Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

Last Saturday we welcomed Hatherley & Reddings to the Hill After losing the return fixture we knew we’d need to perform well to get a result After winning the toss we elected to bowl, and after 20 overs we were in the driving seat, the visitors were 64-3 with 2 wickets from our new new ball specialist Kane, and the aim was to keep them below 150 Unfortunately though, some tired and naive fielding let the away side get away from us and let them reach 198 However, With our line up 200 is never out of the question, and Robins got us off to a flying start reaching 65-1 in 11 overs, before being bowled for 49 This unfortunately led to several quick wickets and we were suddenly 72-4 The 199 target we were set was starting to look out of reach, but with Underwood in there’s always a chance However a change of ball brought a change of luck and Aaron was bowled the very next ball A late cameo from Barn was a joy for the crowd, but that was it and we were bowled for 151 This week we travel to league leaders Cam where we will be hoping to put last weeks disappointment behind us

W or w e w d the benefit of b weather may be is Sunday, prior to starting the hardball leag ng as a team so quickly is testament, not on n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!

Last week saw the 2nd XI travel to Aston Ingham The hosts were a much-changed outfit compared to the side that had lost to us in May, and their strong batting lineup punished our young bowlers for any errors in line or length, racking up a formidable total of 223 for 3 (Trent and Zach the only wicket-takers) In reply, Trent was asked to step up and open the batting and did a great job of seeing off the openers, helping to add 52 for the first wicket A change to the attack saw the introduction of the fastest bowler l've ever come across in CGF Div 2, and a combination of high-speed bouncers and yorkers provided a real test for our batters, many of whom had not faced anything like this before Trent had no answer to a seaming delivery Bally then had one of his stumps knocked out of the ground - an unusual occurrence at this level, to say the least! - and Jayden, Aiden and Crossy quickly followed With survival taking priority over run scoring, the required rate had crept up to almost 2 runs per ball Pete came out swinging, cracking 4 fours and a six on his way to his highest score for the club, but we ultimately fell short by 36 runs All experience is good experience though, and we aim to bounce back today as we welcome Lydney to the Hill

Last week saw plenty of cricket for the women’s section starting with a friendly T20 versus Corse and Staunton This game saw a valiant team effort but woman of the match has to be given to Lacey Jones, who scored her, and the women’s, highest figure of 70 not out off 53 balls to bring us to victory with 3 balls to spare! Her partnership with Iona Moore (80 off 52 balls) demonstrates what talent is coming through the club and reflects how practice makes a difference High on this win, we came into Monday, at home against Huntley in the hardball plate With a last minute drop out, fielding in the blazing sun with 10, we all did what we could to try and keep the run rate down Woman of the match would be given to Kelly Mills, who has only taken up hardball this year, but has slowly found her fielding position close in, to stop a number of boundaries. We all achieved some personal goals, but the target was too high to secure the win And finally on Wednesday, a home re-match against Huntley, this time in the softball league allowed us to come back stronger With captain Kay leading the way, we secured a comfortable win, with the skipper dominating with the bat. Think she’s taking a break from fishing this week and took the boundaries instead. Woman of the match goes to Beth Walsh, who achieved her best bowling figures since she joined and taking her first wicket In summary, a wonderful week for the team and the club should feel proud that they have encouraged so many women to have the opportunity to play and improve in this wonderful game

We approach the summer season with energy and vigour after participating in the indoor winter league competition and coming a respectable 4th place. Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm. The weather may be against us, but we aim to play an inter-club “friendly” hardball game this Sunday, prior to starting the hardball league the following week. The fact we are growing as a team so quickly is testament, not only to the dedication and spirit of all the women who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow.
