RuardeanHillRangersplaytheirfootballonthehighestpointintheForestofDean,920feet abovesealevel.

Formedin1919,RuardeanHillplayedintheoldForestofDeanleagueuntilitsterminationin thelate1950’s.TheythenmovedintotheNorthGloucestershireLeagueandhaveremained thereinsomecapacityeversince.

RuardeanHillgainedtheirfirstpromotiontotheNorthernSeniorLeaguein1994/95and competedinthisleagueforseveralseasonsbeforebeingrelegatedin2001.They immediatelyregainedpromotionthefollowingyearonlytoberelegatedagainin2004.In the2011/12season,theyearnedalastdaypromotionbacktotheseniorleagueaswellas reachingthefinalofthe‘AmateurCup’The2012/13seasonbroughttheclubitsfirst promotiontotheNorthernSeniorLeagueDivision1fromback-to-backpromotions.‘TheHill’ finishedinthetopeightforeachofthenextthreeseasonsbeforefinallywinningtheDivision 1titlein2016/2017season.Theyscoredanincredible125goalsandconcededjust34in35 games.

RuardeanHill’scurrentfirstteamhasagoodmixtureof youth,fromouryouthteams,andexperiencefromthe samecoregroupofplayers.Thecoregroupplayers havebeenintheteamforabout10years.Theynowfield 3seniorteams;theclub’spromotionsowealottothe depthofitsotherseniorteams

Theclubarenowcompetingintheir5thseasoninthe MarcliffCountyLeaguehavingfinished9thand5thin theirfirsttwoseasons.Theyarenowfullycementedin theCountyLeagueandtheyarelookingtopushonand finishashighaspossible.

RuardeanHill’sfirstteammatchlastweekresultedina1-0defeatathometoFramptonUnited.Apoorfirsthalf performancefromtheHillmeanttheywerebehindathalftimetoFrampton’sHenryArthurDriver-Dickersoncloserange finish.TheHillimprovedinthesecondhalfbutdespiteseveralgoodeffortscouldnotbeattheFramptonkeepertogainthe equaliser.Despitethedefeat,theHillremainin8thpositioninthetablewith13pointsfrom8games.

BroadwellFootballClubwasformedin1905bythelocalworkingmenandoriginallyplayedat“The Purples”Coalway Inthe1930sBroadwellmovedtoplayat“WynolsHill”wheretheystayeduntil1947, whentheymovedagaintowhatisnowknownas“TheHawthorns” Thiswasdonewiththehelpof thetwolatetrustees,MrBertRuck,andMrFrankHaviland.Overtheyearsvariousfacilitieswereused suchas“theRisingSun“,churchhall,andthelocalworkingmen’sclub However,in1963withthe helpofthechairperson,MrRubeKibble,SecretaryWilliamSmithandcommitteemenMrCyril Hamblin,anewchangingquarterwasofficiallyopenedbyrefereeMrTomFinney.

In1982,abarfacilitywasopenedbythelatepresidentMr.HubertSmithandsevenyearslateranew bar,skittlesalley,kitchen,andrefereeschangingroomwereaddedbyadedicatedbunchof Broadwellsupportersandsponsors

Thefootballsocialclubhasastronggolfsocietywhichplaystwiceayearopentoallclubmembers youngoroldregardlessofability.Thefootballclubcurrentlyrunthreeseniorsides,whichplayona Saturday BroadwellwontheGFA SeniorAmateurcupnorthinitsinauguralyearin1925-26and reachedthefinalontwootheroccasions,losingtoCharltonKingsin1947-48andBishopsCleevein 1964-65.Otherhonoursovertheyearshavebeenthenorthernseniorleaguedivisionone championshipin1925-26,1946-47anddivisiontworunnersupin1976-77 RunnersupintheGFA Challengetrophyseason1998-99.WinningtheNorthernSeniorleagueagainin1993-94enabled themtogainpromotiontothecountyleague,beforebeingvotedfromtheleaguethreeseasons later Broadwell’smostfamousplayerwasthelateColinHamblinwhowasalsowentontoplayfor thecounty;atrophycabinetinhishonourisproudlydisplayedintheclubhouse.

2006-07SeasonthefirstelevenfinishedasrunnersuptoTuffleyRoversinNorthernSeniorleague Division1 Afterarunofeighteengameswithoutdefeatabadrunoffivedefeatsinthelasteight gamesstoppedthemwinningtheleague.BroadwelllosttoTuffleyRoversatHarrowHillintheGFA seniorcountycupfinalthesameseason.

BroadwellwerecrownedSeniorNorthCountyCupWinnersinseason2008-09beatingShortwood Res2-1inthefinalatSlimbridgeAfc Season2009-10thefirstteamlostinthesemi-finalsoftheGFAcountycupandfinishedthirdinthe league Theclubcontinuallyfinishedinthetopfiveforthenextfiveseasons 2014-15Seasonsawthefirstteamwinthenorthernseniorleaguetitle,wintheRegDaviesmemorial leaguecup,andcomerunnersuptoBrockworthAlbionintheseniornorthcountycup.

Theclubscommitteecommittedtochangingroomimprovementsandwithoutanyfundingbuilt newawaychangingroomsalongwithreferee/assistantschangingrooms,completedinApril2015 AfteragoodfirstcampaignfinishingsixthunderGaryHurcombethefirstteamweremanagedby LeeWilliamsandScottAlbonfinishing12thintheleagueseason2016-17,reachingthefinaloftheLes JamescuplosingtoAEKBOCO3-0

Season2017-18sawBroadwellinthetopfiveoftheleagueformostoftheseasononlytofallawayatthelater partduetothehighvolumeofgamesplayedeventuallyfinishinginseventhplace.Broadwelldidhowever jointlywintheRespectleaguewithFramptonUnitedwitharemarkable100%recordofnobookingsfordissent Season2018-19proveddifficultfortheclubManagerLeeWilliamsandScottAlbonjointlyretiredfrom Managementbutcontinuetheircloselinkswiththeclub.Season2019-20theclubmovedoutoftheircomfort zoneandappointedamanagerfromoutsidetheclubSimonBeardsellexCheltenhamTownYouthacademy coachwhostooddownOctober2019TheclubwereluckytoappointimmediatelylocalcoachStuartLiddington exLydneyTown,histasktoimproveonseason2019-20leagueposition.Theextendedperiodawayfromfootball duetoCovidsawStuartleavetheclubandreturntoLydneyTown2020FirstTeamdutiesarenowinthevery capablehandsofChrisBrain,who’staskistoblendoursuccessfulundereighteenteamintofirstteamplayers. The2022seasonsawtheteamstartwithChrisbutunfortunatelyafewweeksinChrismadethedecisiontostep downfromtheManagerrolewhichmadewayforGuyJonestostepupfromAssistantManagertoManager. GuyhadsomebigshoestofillinwhatwashisdebutasaCountyLeagueManagerbuthetookontheroleand gaveithisall.Workinghardonkeepingmoraleupandspiritshigh,Guycontinuedtoworkwiththeteamhehad, makingsureeachgamewasapositivevibe,settingsmallgoalsandalwaysapplaudingtheresults,regardless ofwinorloseTheseasonprovedtobeatoughoneforBroadwellandduringthefinalweeksofthewefound ourselvesatthebottomoftheleaguetableandheadingtowardstherelegationzone.Itlookedatoughgigfor GuyandtheteamtopullthroughandremainintheCountyLeaguebutthroughsheerdeterminationfrom everyoneandthesupportofallatBroadwelltheydidit!Thefinalmatchesgavethemthepointstheyneededto remainjustaboverelegationandanotherseasonheadingintotheCountyLeague.

OverthepastcoupleofyearsBroadwellClubhavebenefitedfromsomededicatedandenthusiasticclub memberswhoworktirelesslytoimproveourfacilities,lookafterourgroundsandkeepeverythingtiptopThey arefondlyknownas“TheWednesdayCrew”andtheyareverymuchappreciatedbyallinvolvedatBroadwell AFC,somuchsotheywereawardedClubmanoftheyearattheclubsannualpresentationin2024!

Goingintothe2024/2025seasonGuyJonesremainsasfirstTeamManagerbutnowwithChrisPowellathis sideasAssistantManager.Chrisbringsawealthofpositiveenergy,yearsoffootballexperienceandplentyof bantertothesquadThetwotogetherhavehighhopesandtheclubareexcitedtoseewhattheycanachieve Thesquadhavebeenworkinghardattrainingpre-seasonandhadsomegoodfriendliestosetthemupand makesomeearlychangeswhereneededWithsomenewfacesinthefirststhisseason,includingplayerswho havemoveduptheranksatBroadwell,alongwithsomeveryloyalandtrustyexistingplayersit’slookingtobea greatseasonUPTHEWELL!
