Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!

This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though

The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.

The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...

Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.

Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

Last week we travelled to Eastcombe in promising conditions, unfortunately we knew what was to come With rain forecast at 1pm it was a case of how much cricket can we get in before the inevitable, 91 overs was the answer to that Myself and the Eastcombe captain were both hopeful of bowling first to try and pick up as many bowling points as possible and after losing the toss, the advantage fell to the home side. Thankfully Robins and Jayner denied the hosts any points with a 53 run partnership before the inevitable decision to shake hands and share the points was reached This week we welcome Hatherley & Reddings to the Hill, they have proven to be a bit of a bogey side over recent years, but with a strong XI this week I am confident we will get a result and aim for a top half finish I would also like to say a huge well done to the boys for reaching the final of the Forest Hundred after beating Monmouth by 7 wickets, hopefully there will be more silverware on the Hill come 7th August where we will play either Goodrich or Cinderford!

or w e w d the benefit of b weather may be is Sunday, prior to starting the hardball leag ng as a team so quickly is testament, not on n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!

Given the weather forecast, I was surprised we got any cricket in at all last Saturday We managed 22 overs in the field against Cinderford St John before the rain forced us off, which was still enough time to see Aiden hit the stumps 3 times (making him the first bowler to reach double-figures in wickets for the 2nd XI this season) and for birthday boy Fred to pick up an Ibw The success of these junior section graduates shows what a great job our coaching team does in developing young players. Our current batch of U11s, U13s and U15s have all put in some great performances this season, and it's been a pleasure to watch them grow as players and as people Several of them have made their senior debuts, and with Development XI fixtures planned all the way up to the end of August (as well as 2nd XI regulars being on holiday for today's game at Aston Ingham!), I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities for our juniors to gain more experience of adult cricket over the rest of the season The future looks bright Up the Hill!

Last week saw a return of a softball league fixture, away against Tewksbury In what was always going to be a tough fixture, things were made even a more of a challenge with many players being unavailable However, with a last minute call up from Huma, a Gloucester CC player, we travelled with a full squad As expected, our opposition was strong, starting with myself being cleaned bowled by a ball that travelled so quickly I don’t even see it!

Donna and Lacey offered some boundaries with the bat, with Maisie taking the lead on bowling, and nearly earning a hatrick! Overall, Tewksbury had the edge with both bat and ball and earning a deserved win. For RHCC there were so many wins, with each player achieving a personal goal in their development, the most impressive being that everyone put their full commitment into the game and came off smiling! This week we see a combination of a friendly hardball game vs Corse, had all hundred game and softball league game, both against Huntley at home!

We approach the summer season with energy and vigour after participating in the indoor winter league competition and coming a respectable 4th place. Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm. The weather may be against us, but we aim to play an inter-club “friendly” hardball game this Sunday, prior to starting the hardball league the following week.
