We approach the summer season with energy and vigour after participating in the indoor winter league competition and coming a respectable 4th place. Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm. The fact we are growing as a team so quickly is testament, not only to the dedication and spirit of all the women who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!

Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!

This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though

The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.

The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...

Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.

Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

Last Saturday we travelled to second in the league Cam with a few regulars missing (again)! So I was slightly concerned to say the least, but knew if the lads there turned up then we’d give them a good game! We won the toss and put the hosts in on what looked a spicy wicket to say the least, this proved to be a good call as Taz got the breakthrough in the 3rd over with them 8-1 The second wicket fell in the 17th as Nick had the Cam captain caught at mid on, the 3rd wicket then came in his next over and suddenly the hosts were 58-3 the next 4 wickets then fell for only 14 runs and we were definitely in the driving seat hoping we could take the final 3 wickets for under 100 and secure max batting points However a stubborn innings from Cam’s 8 and 9 saw them pass the 100 mark before ACR got the breakthrough, we took out final wicket not long after and were set 113 to win! Due to the nature of the wicket it was never going to be easy losing several wickets fairly early, but with Jayner at the crease we’re always in contention, and it was obvious he wanted to be out the until the end until he was bowled around his legs for the second time in 2 week! However some steady batting combined with a huge 6 from Barn managed to get us over the line and secure a fantastic win! today we welcome Haresfield to the Hill, fresh from victory last week, it’s all to play for!

W or w e w d the benefit of b weather may be is Sunday, prior to starting the hardball leag ng as a team so quickly is testament, not on n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Following a late call up to the firsts for yours truly last Saturday, Pete was asked to lead an inexperienced 2nd XI against an ever-improving Lydney (talk about a hospital pass!) Stu coming back into the side gave us some hope of a decent total, but a good ball accounted for him early on and the only real resistance came from the Moore father-and-son duo, a partnership of 45 demonstrating Pete's good form and Aiden's continuing improvement with the bat A total of 88 was always going to be difficult to defend, but the team put up a great fight, taking down 7 Lydney batters before they got across the line Trent and Aiden continue to lead the bowling attack to great effect and now have 14 and 12 league wickets respectively this season Here's hoping they keep pushing each other for the leading bowler award and that the stumps keep flying as a result It's been a tough month or so in terms of getting a team out, but with a couple of 1st XI squad members returning to the side today, we travel to second-placed Highnam with optimism Up the Hill!

Last week saw the women play 2 games, the first being a hardball game away to Cheltenham 2nds This last minute friendly certainly gave us further experience with the bat and ball, against a very experienced side Stepping up to play 30 overs was also useful development in our growth as a team. Whilst Cheltenham dominated the game, it was played with the right spirit and encouragement. Of note, our less experienced players were the ones to step up at the crease, with Donna Caswell producing her highest hardball score of 16 Monday also saw us play away, in the softball league against Newent The winner of this game will likely take the title, so all to play for Unfortunately, fortune was not in our favour, with Newent producing a superb effort with the bat, posting a total that was slightly out of our reach to chase. Additional sporting talents spread within the Moore household, as unlike her mum Kay who can enjoy fishing on the cricket pitch, Iona stopped a boundary by reaching out and using her hand like a tennis racket to hit the ball back into the field An amazing piece of fielding! The time we spent off the field post-game reflects how well we have built relationships with our neighbouring clubs and Newent are certainly worthy winners of the title
