RuardeanHillRangersplaytheirfootballonthehighestpointintheForestofDean,920feet abovesealevel.

Formedin1919,RuardeanHillplayedintheoldForestofDeanleagueuntilitsterminationin thelate1950’s.TheythenmovedintotheNorthGloucestershireLeagueandhaveremained thereinsomecapacityeversince.

RuardeanHillgainedtheirfirstpromotiontotheNorthernSeniorLeaguein1994/95and competedinthisleagueforseveralseasonsbeforebeingrelegatedin2001.They immediatelyregainedpromotionthefollowingyearonlytoberelegatedagainin2004.In the2011/12season,theyearnedalastdaypromotionbacktotheseniorleagueaswellas reachingthefinalofthe‘AmateurCup’The2012/13seasonbroughttheclubitsfirst promotiontotheNorthernSeniorLeagueDivision1fromback-to-backpromotions.‘TheHill’ finishedinthetopeightforeachofthenextthreeseasonsbeforefinallywinningtheDivision 1titlein2016/2017season.Theyscoredanincredible125goalsandconcededjust34in35 games.

RuardeanHill’scurrentfirstteamhasagoodmixtureof youth,fromouryouthteams,andexperiencefromthe samecoregroupofplayers.Thecoregroupplayers havebeenintheteamforabout10years.Theynowfield 3seniorteams;theclub’spromotionsowealottothe depthofitsotherseniorteams

Theclubarenowcompetingintheir5thseasoninthe MarcliffCountyLeaguehavingfinished9thand5thin theirfirsttwoseasons.Theyarenowfullycementedin theCountyLeagueandtheyarelookingtopushonand finishashighaspossible.

RuardeanHill’sfirstteammatchlastweekresultedina3-0victoryatBromleyHeath.Astrongfirsthalfperformancefrom theHillearninga2-0leadwithbothgoalsbeingscoredbyAlexStephensTheHillincreasedtheirleadhalfwaythroughthe secondhalfwithagoalfromKaneFellows,whowhippedinacornerwithpacethatflewintothenetoutofthereachofthe Bromleykeeper.

IntheNorthGlosPremierDivision,theReserveteamlost1-0athometoLydneyTownAAnotherimprovedperformanceby theReserveTeam,whoonceagainmissedchancestoscore.Thegamewassettledbyalong-rangestrikefromLydney’s WilliamButcherinthesecondhalfThereservesdisappointednottotakeanypointsfromthegame

IntheCountyCup,RuardeanHillRangersAbeatMinchinhamptonRangersYouthMen’sfirstteamatDeneMagnaon penaltiesTheHillwere1-0behindathalftimebutequalisedinthesecondhalfthroughLeeJohnsonInthepenalty shootout,despitemissingtheirfirstpenalty,theHilltriumphed3-2TheherobeingConnorHorsfall,whosavedtwopenalties togivetheAteamapassageintothenextroundversusRankOutsidersReserves.

Intheimmediatepost-waryearsGCHQ,thenpartoftheForeignOffice,waslocatedatEastcotein Middlesex.In1948GCHQdecidedtoformafootballteam,playingunderthenameofFOSA–ForeignOffice SportsAssociationHomematcheswereplayedattheForeignOfficeSportsClub‘Swakeleys’inIckenham andtheteamcompetedintheHarrow,Wembley&DistrictLeagueAsecondXIwasformedin1950

TheteamfaredmoderatelyandafterthreeseasonsinDivisions2&3theyswitchedtoplayintheCivil ServiceLeague,whichcoveredallofLondonBeginninginDivision4,theclubwonthetitleatitsfirstattempt in1951/2andwerepromotedstraighttoDivision2.TheSecondXIwasenteredintoDivision5.

In1953GCHQmovedtoCheltenham,bringingtheentirecommitteeandmorethanhalftheplayers.Now knownasGCHQ,theclubenteredateamintheCheltenhamLeagueandplayeditshomematchesat SwindonVillageThecurrentTewkesburyRoadgroundbecameavailablein1954/5andGCHQwonDivision 3oftheCheltenhamLeaguein1955/6.Togetherwithothersportsactivities,thechangeofnameto CheltenhamCivilServicewasmadein1957/8toreflecttheinclusionofothergovernmentdepartmentsin theareaTheclubhasbeenrepresentedintheCheltenhamLeagueatTewkesburyRoadeversince, althoughsuccesseshavebeenrareuntilrecently.

ThefacilitiesatTewkesburyRoadhavebeendevelopedsignificantlytoincludeamodernclubhouseand floodlitall-weather7-a-sidepitch.A3rdXIwasaddedinthe1970sanda4thXIinthe1990s,aswellasa Women’steamandahandfulofyouthteams

Abigbreakthroughforthecluboccurredin1995/6whenthe1stXIwontheCheltenhamLeagueforthefirst timeinitshistoryandwaspromotedtotheGloucestershireNorthernSeniorLeagueDivision2Theteam immediatelywonpromotiontoDivision1,beforebeingrelegatedin1999/00.

Theclubagainwonpromotionthefollowingseasonandenjoyedseveralyearsinthetoptierbefore relegationin2009/0.However,theclubmadeanotherquickreturn,winningtheDivision2titletwoyearslater andscoringthemostgoalsintheGNSLintheprocess

The1stXIfinished2ndin2012/3intheGloucestershireNorthernSeniorLeagueandagainin2013/14securing promotiontotheGloucestershireCountyLeague,thehigheststandardeverreachedbytheclubThe seasonwasalsocappedoffbywinningtheGloucestershireSeniorAmateurCountyCupforthefirsttimein thehistoryoftheclubTheseasonalsosawahugestepforwardfortheWomen’steamwhoprogressed fromtheGloucestershireCountyLeague,bywinningtheleagueunbeaten,totheSouthwestWomen’s FootballLeague.

In2014/15,theClub’sinauguralseasonintheCountyLeague,the1stXIovercameallexpectationsbyfinishing asrunawaywinners,leadingfromstarttofinish,aswellasfinishingasrunners-upintheLeagueCup. Thenextfewyearssawtheclubgothroughadifficultperiodwhentheylostnotonlythemanagerbutmost oftheteamthatwontheCountyLeaguebecauseourfacilitieswerenotuptostandardforthenextlevel.This accumulatedinthe1stteamfoldingin2016/17leavingtheclubwiththreesidesintheCheltenhamLeague. Season2017/18sawtheclubsresurgenceandhadoneofthemostsuccessfulseasonsintheirhistory

ThefirstteamwonthetrebleofCheltenhamDivision1,andthereforepromotionbacktotheGloucestershire NorthernSeniorLeague,CheltenhamSeniorCharitiesCupandGloucestershireJuniorCountyCup.The ReservestooktheCheltenhamDivision2title,reachedthesemi-finaloftheGloucestershireIntermediate CountyCupandwererunnersupintheCheltenhamMinorCharityCupandthethirdteamwererunnersup intheGloucestershireMinorCountyCupandwontheCheltenhamPrimaryCharityTrophyandfinallythe Ladiessidereachedthesemi-finaloftheGloucestershireWomens’Trophy

Season2018/19continuedinsuccessfulwayswiththefirstteamwinningtheGloucestershireCounty ChampionsShieldJuniorCupatthestartoftheseasonTheythenfinishedrunnersupinGloucestershire NorthernSeniorLeagueDivision2andreturnedtoDivision1.Duringthesameseason,theVeteranssidewon theGloucestershireVeteransLeagueDivision2forfirsttimeandhigher-levelfootballforthemalsointhe followingseason
