Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!
This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though
The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.
The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...
Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.
Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

Last Saturday we welcomed Oaksey to the HIll We won the toss and chose to bowl, Jayner got us off to a great start, taking the first wicket in the 4th over, leaving the visitors 5-1 Not to be outshone by his old pal, Taz got the second wicket in the 13th over after a catch from the returning Robins There could have been a wicket the next ball but a drop behind the stumps proved to be a let off for the Oaksey number 4. Fielding unfortunately wasn’t our strength for the majority of their innings, yet we still took 5 catches, dismissing them for 114 With rain looking worrying, Robins made sure we got ahead of the DLS par with a quick fire 19, but the experience of Taz and Jayner again ensured we steadily chased down our target with 143 overs remaining Today we travel to Painswick who have also recently found some form, and I’d like to take a second to wish the Jayne’s well today as Nick’s daughter Emmi will be getting married, I hope you all have a wonderful day!
W or w e w d the benefit of b weather may be is Sunday, prior to starting the hardball leag ng as a team so quickly is testament, not on n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!
After a run of three wins in a row, last week was something of a reality check as the 2nd XI went down to a 90-run defeat at Alvington & Woolaston The team now know what it's like to be up against a title-challenging side, and whilst the hosts were undoubtedly the best team on the day, I'm proud of the way we fought for 80 overs Before last Saturday, the most wickets Alvington had lost in a game this season was 4; we took 8 Bobby did a lot of the late damage with 4 wickets, but James - playing in only his second senior league game, and his first of 2024 - was the pick of the attack, bowling an immaculate line and length that deserved more than the one wicket. In reply, facing a team with 4 spinners (we had none) on a turning track, we struggled to get any momentum, but another monumental effort with the bat from Bally (current season average: 136) meant that we managed to avoid being bowled out, which we'll take as a small victory Talking of victories - Pete is 2nd XI captain for today's match, and he currently has two wins out of two as skipper this season Let's hope to keep that winning streak going against Parkend!

Last week was a double header, with a T20 hardball game vs Huntley on Sunday, followed by a softball hundred game vs Bream The former was always going to be a tough game, knowing Huntley has talent and experience in their team. However, lots of positives to be taken, including our ability to see out the complete innings, lots of energy in the field, including a great attempt at a one handed catch from Anneka Honourable mention also has to go to Scarlett, who faced 48 balls in her second ever game of hardball! In contrast, Wednesday’s game was a lift we needed, winning comfortably, which sees us through the the quarter finals of the softball hundred shield

We approach the summer season with energy and vigour after participating in the indoor winter league competition and coming a respectable 4th place. Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm. The weather may be against us, but we aim to play an inter-club “friendly” hardball game this Sunday, prior to starting the hardball league the following week. The fact we are growing as a team so quickly is testament, not only to the dedication and spirit of all the women who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!
