Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!

This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though

The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.

The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...

Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.

Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

Last year saw us travel to Hatherley and Reddings and the quaint South Park After winning the toss we chose to bat and couldn’t have got off to the worst start losing Jayden Jones for a first ball duck, things started to look up though when Paul and Jack Weaving’s 75 run partnership saw us to 84-1 before a low bouncing ball bowled Jack for 36 Jayner joined Paul at the crease and put on 41 before Nick fell for 23 This then led to a famous Ruardean Hill collapse losing 6 wickets for 38 runs and finishing on 163-9. A strong opening partnership from the Hatherley & Reddings openers saw them to 41-0 before a short ball from Jack Weaving was caught by Dan Matthews dismissing Robin Smith for 16 2 wickets quickly fell leaving the hosts 63-3 and allowing us a foot in the door, but a strong middle order performance helped guide our opposition to a victory A frustrating start to our season but with players set to return to the first XI we’re sure we will find our rhythm and have a successful return to the GCCL.

W or w e w d the benefit of being weather may be agai is Sunday, prior to star ng as a team so quickly n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!

Last week, for the second successive home game, we made a slow start with the ball, before dragging ourselves back into the game after drinks We managed to peg Aston Ingham back from 113 for 0 to a final score of 159 for 7, thanks to a great spell from Aiden (3-13), supported by Bobby (2-17) On a personal note, I was delighted that my son, Zach, was able to make his senior debut, and he showed just what he could do by taking the first wicket of the game A proud dad moment for me and a vital point in the match as this triggered our opponents’ collapse. We had a little stumble of our own, falling to 15-3, but thankfully Bally and I were able to see off the openers, then accelerate, adding an unbeaten 147 to see us home with 5 overs and 7 wickets to spare A very satisfying first win of the season and something we can hopefully build on today vs Westbury.

This week saw a change in venue as we were invited to play a friendly game of softball against the newly formed women’s team at Goodrich. These games prove vital as we build our squad, giving players practice and developing confidence in the game Whilst the result didn’t go our way, there was a huge amount to take away, with a key highlight being the batting partnership of Leigh and Donna We haven’t seen the most of these two with the bat Huge thanks to Leigh for stepping up and skippering. Meanwhile I’ll be doing a lot of making up to the team. In order to field maximum players, myself and Taneya supported Goodrich I didn’t mean to take those wickets

We approach the summer season with energy and vigour after participating in the indoor winter league competition and coming a respectable 4th place. Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm. The weather may be against us, but we aim to play an inter-club “friendly” hardball game this Sunday, prior to starting the hardball league the following week. The fact we are growing as a team so quickly is testament, not only to the dedication and spirit of all the women who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. The fact we are growing as a team so quickly is testament, not only to the dedication and spirit of all the women who show

to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!
