Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!
This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though
The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.
The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...
Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.
Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

This has felt like one of the fastest (and most stressful) seasons I can remember! Last year we were blessed with availability but this season has been a bit more of a struggle with lots of regulars either working, being injured, having holidays or saving the country Whether we remain in the GCCL next season is still in our hands as we travel to Lechlade needing 7 points to secure safety, with Oakridge taking on league leaders, Cam - who will win the league with a victory. So a win for Cam will see us stay up regardless of our results, but getting 7 points will mean we can relax before the results come in This isn’t a position I thought we would be in at the start of season, I was genuinely confident last years squad would have been challenging for promotion again this season, but unfortunately it much the opposite Securing safety today will be the second time in the last 10 seasons (ignoring the Covid season) that we’ve remained in a league, being either promoted or relegated 7 times, so a bit of mediocracy will actually be quite refreshing! But regardless of what happens, I believe we will be back stronger next season as the club is trending positively I would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who has been involved with the 1s this season, whether playing, supporting, preparing the ground, taking photo’s and providing the players with food on game day, all of your efforts are hugely appreciated!
W or w e w d the benefit of b weather may be is Sunday, prior to starting the hardball leag ng as a team so quickly is testament, not on n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. And suddenly - in the blink of an eye - the season was over! In the build-up to our final league match of 2024, l've been looking back on how we've performed CGF Division 2 has been a tough league this year, with the introduction of some very strong new sides in the form of Alvington & Woolaston, Yorkley Star, Cinderford and Huntley alongside the always-competitive Highnam Court and Aston Ingham With that in mind, I think our current standing of 6th place is a decent effort We've asked a lot of our juniors this year, with up to 9 teens in the lineup at times Trent, Aiden and Zach (in his first season of senior cricket) have all passed the 10wicket mark and led a very inexperienced bowling attack with maturity beyond their years Batting has proved trickier, although compensating for the loss of two of last year's top scorers (Bobby and Tony) in the first half of the season was always going to be a challenge I'm grateful to Bally for stepping up as senior batter to guide us through this difficult period Finally, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who's pulled on the shirt for us this season. Without exception, you've given your all and helped pull off some great results (not least a dramatic 1-run win in June against today’s visitors!) Let's finish off the season on a high today with a good performance against Bream Up the Hill!

Last week saw the women face a friendly pairs hardball game versus the development team Sadly, we were unable to complete this as rain stopped play. However, my 2 eldest son’s still managed a 50 partnership for the development team. Normally a mum would be proud to watch this, but less so when half the runs were scored off my bowling! As we approach the end of the season, our efforts look towards finals day for the softball hundred cup As always huge thanks to our coach Chloe Skelton, for giving us the encouragement and support that we need Practice with her last week was positive Kay managed to stay upright, less said about my ability to catch a ball Who needs a nose?! Finals day will be an experience!

We approach the summer season with energy and vigour after participating in the indoor winter league competition and coming a respectable 4th place. Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm. The weather may be against us, but we aim to play an inter-club “friendly” hardball game this Sunday, prior to starting the hardball league the following week. The fact we are growing as a team so quickly is testament, not only to the dedication and spirit of all the women who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow.
