Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!

This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though

The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.

The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...

Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.

Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

Last week was a frustrating one as we welcomed Tetbury to the Hill The visitors were sitting in second place before the game but with the side we had available I was confident we could have got a result However, after being out in to bat we were suddenly up against it, losing 3 wickets for 40 runs inside 12 overs Taz and Aaron steadied the ship with a partnership of 46 before Aaron was dismissed for 21 There was another 46 run partnership but a late flurry of wickets saw us set the visitors 145 to win It was always going to be a tough total to defend but there was always hope taking the first Tetbury wicket for 38 Unfortunately though a couple of good partnerships from the visitors saw them reach their target with 8 overs remaining. Maybe another 40 runs would have made it a bit more competitive but we turn our attention this week to Eastcombe where we were victors at the start of the season

W or w e w d the benefit of b weather may be is Sunday, prior to starting the hardball leag ng as a team so quickly is testament, not on n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!

From feast to famine. After having 22 players to choose from against Bream, a lack of senior availability last week saw the 2nd XI take on Yorkley Star with Crossy captaining a team containing 9 teenagers and an adult making his league debut Each and every one of those players is a very capable cricketer, and the team did well to take 7 wickets (the skipper leading the way with 3) Unfortunately, what started out as a difficult batting track worsened as the game went on, the wicket dying to the extent that 5 of our batters were bowled off no-balls that simply rolled across the ground With no experience of these conditions, our young side was bowled out for 62. Massive credit to Aiden Moore, who watchfully defended his wicket for nearly 20 overs, patiently waiting to dispatch the rare bad ball (he hit two sixes!) as he recorded his senior-best score of 17 not out - something positive to take out of a difficult day Today, weather permitting, we welcome Cinderford St John to the Hill With our three top run scorers returning to the side, hopefully we can reach triple figures this week!

Rain stopped play last Monday for our softball league fixture against Newent However, our game on Thursday more than made up for it! A win would secure us a place in finals day for the softball hundred cup in September We faced a dedicated Moreton-inMarsh team who made the epic trip accross the county to play Opting to bat first, in 25 degree heat, Moreton were strong with the bat With only 8 aside, the team’s skipper maximised on taking the gaps Despite a valiant effort from the bowlers, including a great spell from Becca, Kiera and Kay, we were given a total of 135 to chase. Whilst this was doable, there was also trepidation if we could chase and create our highest score to date As all good skippers should do, delegate to others with Kay and Leigh sent to start the job Kay forgot she was playing cricket and fished for a wide, resulted in a catch Donna came in and started the positive attack and momentum we needed with 2 excellent 4s and creating a partnership with Leigh of 37 from 11 balls Kiera also contributed to a steady run rate, but despite these efforts, as Joss came to the crease, 45 off 28 balls felt a little too far to reach However a patient and diligent partnership created pressure. Suddenly needing 4 off 3 balls, woman of the match Leigh, who had played a masterclass in how to build a batting innings, secured the win with a 4! This result means we will be invited to play at finals day in September at Stroud CC For a team that is only 18 months old, I’ll take that! As well as my catching practice, I’ll make sure Kay can revise what a wide ball looks like before then

Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm.
