Welcome all to another packed season of cricket on the hill!

This year we already have over 100 matches scheduled across the club, and are excited to provide even more opportunities for cricket - the women's hardball team will make their competitive debut, as will our new Development XI, and the as-yet-unnamed Hundred franchise will take a bow... all dependent on the rain actually stopping at some point though

The off-season has again been productive, with indoor league cricket continuing and excellent turnout at training sessions I'm heartened by the way the club continues to grow and the inclusive attitudes on display at all these sessions.

The committee has also been working hard to put together a vision of how we want to develop club in the future, and we have big plans that are already underway This is going to require significant investments of time, effort and, of course, money, but will be hugely beneficial to the club and community. More on that to follow, but you can help immediately by signing up to our new membership structure! Details available in all the usual places...

Lastly, a big thank you to all volunteers, club partners and sponsors who are doing so much to support the club and the game we love.

Best of luck in all your fixtures, up the Hill!

Last week saw us go back to last season where we were able to bat teams out of the game, an excellent total of 269-6 (special mentions to Robins - 86, Taz - 36 and Aaron - 34) was always going to be tough for Lechlade who to their credit put up a great chase reaching 242 Our fielding could do with some work if we want to push back up through the leagues, but sometimes it’s just about getting the job done, which on this occasion we did. Today our attention turns to Oakridge who we’ve yet to play this season, hopefully we can show another strong performance with the bat!

or w e w d the benefit of b weather may be is Sunday, prior to starting the hardball leag ng as a team so quickly is testament, not on n who show up to practice, but also to the committee and RHCC sports club who also want to see the game of cricket grow. Here’s to a fantastic summer and here’s to a cheeky shandy post a Sunday game! Cheers!

It's safe to say I'm still a little shell-shocked from last week's game at Bream With a team containing 9 players who'd made an appearance for the 1st XI this season, the sun beating down and no visible demons in the pitch, I chose to bat first It quickly became apparent that this wasn’t my best decision ever The wicket offered inconsistent bounce from the off, making timing the ball almost impossible A procession of wickets followed as we ended up all out on a season-low total of 54 off 265 overs Feeling deflated (and a little embarrassed), I tried to rally the troops during the break, pointing out that if we copied Bream's tactic of bowling wicket-towicket, we could get similar results Little did I know what was to follow Bun and Trent struck early, dismissing both openers with only 10 runs on the board The Bream number 3 then decided the best option was to chance his arm, swinging hard, hitting 4 boundaries to take his team to 28 for 2 With only 27 runs now required, we needed a miracle Enter Saint Bun and Saint Trent In the blink of an eye, they took a combined total of 6 wickets for 1 run When Bun followed that up with a well-judged catch off his own bowling, Bream were suddenly - unbelievably - 34 for 9 and the pendulum had swung firmly in our favour Surely we couldn't lose from this position? Think again. Bream's tailenders used a mixture of grit, skill and the occasional bit of good fortune to survive and find the boundary 3 times Suddenly, with both of our opening bowlers having completed their spells, only 3 runs required and the momentum back in their favour, the hosts were favourites once more With two seasons' experience of death bowling under his belt, Aiden was the logical choice to come on and bowl, but it was still a big ask of a 16-year-old He held his nerve brilliantly, clattering Bream’s number 9's leg stump! The feeling of joy (relief?) was immense!

This week we were up against a strong Tewksbury side in the T20 league Our introduction to hardball has been a baptism of fire, with the gulf of experience in the league evident Needless to say we are yet to get that most wanted win That said, there is a lot of progress that has been made; our attack and score with the bat is increasing, we held Tewksbury to a score that was lower than their previous scores this year and we continue to take wickets. Shout out has to go to Becca who took 3 wickets and back on form with the ball In softball we travelled to Gloucester in a friendly softball game Wonderful to invite more players to the game Qudos to Joss for bowling a hattrick, with a total of 4 wickets But once again, let’s not talk about my catching ability, hey Kay? We’re back on the Hill on Sunday as we take on our Development team!!

We approach the summer season with energy and vigour after participating in the indoor winter league competition and coming a respectable 4th place. Since January, we have welcomed many more new players, bringing our squad to over 20 players and have had the benefit of being coached by Chloe Skelton, current player for Western Storm. The weather may be against us, but we aim to play an inter-club “friendly” hardball game this Sunday, prior to starting the hardball league the following week.
