more alive than ever. We continue to move on - the world is slowly opening up and we can finally catch a glimpse of the bright future we have ahead. Next on the RTI agenda is the RTI HYM in Marrakesh, Morocco. I know there are plenty of tablers out there who just can't wait to get there and experience international tabling for the first time since the pandemic started - or for the first time ever. Take a look at the preview of what you can expect further on in this issue on pages 56-69. The world is opening up - but does it look the same? This pandemic has taken

This issue is also packed with capturing articles about amazing clubs and organisations making life better for those in need. RT The Netherlands are planting trees in schoolyards to save the planet and at the same time provide the kids with some valuable environmental education. And RT Malawi are showcasing a string of events and initiatives improving the world around them. Also, did you know you can table your way through Belgium and enjoy locally brewed beers created by local tablers? Take a trip to the land of beers on page 78. But you cannot live on beer alone, even though some of you might disagree. Take a culinary trip to my home country and cook Swedish meatballs for dinner. In these times when some of us can't meet other tablers like before - we discover how much Round Table means to us. We all miss tabling and the good times we have with one another. I hope you enjoy this issue and that these stories provide you with inspiration and a sense of tabling in some way.

RTI PRESIDENT

TABLING IN A POST-COVID WORLD By GRAHAM CORNELISSEN, Round Table International President, 2021-2022

DEAR BROTHERS, I am very proud to share our second edition of the RTI magazine with you. A new year is upon us, and we have had January fly past already by the time you are reading this. Time flying by so rapidly lets us sit back and think about what matters. The beginning of a new year is a soft reset where we take stock of our lives and what we want to change. In our ongoing continuous improvement efforts, we have set ourselves ambitious goals for the coming years. We shared these special projects with our members during the Councillors meeting that was broadcast on the 9th of January. This video is available to view on our Facebook group and can be viewed at any time. Under our vice president's leadership, we have launched the Global Operation Head-hunter. See the next page where Jayant shares how this can create long-term sustainable growth for Round Table. We are looking to partner with global brands and sports stars to unlock benefits to everyone involved. We are positioning ourselves as an aspirational brand and have been working very hard in redefining our brand identity. We want to give all our members tangible benefits by merely being a member of Round Table. The RTI University is expanding its learning offering and teaming up with well known educational institutions. This will provide opportunities to affect members outside of Round Table in many positive ways. We are in discussions with various parties to get other member benefits such as discounted hotel stays and flights on major airlines. Watch out for upcoming communication in this regard. We want to build healthy habits. We are driving a campaign over 30 days in April where we invite members to do small daily acts, culminating in a positive difference being made. Small things being done by many people is the only way for change to occur. I would urge everyone to get involved in this campaign and share their stories. I am looking forward to travelling to Morocco for the RTI Half Year meeting. We have a detailed article in this edition detailing some of the highlights that we can expect. More than all of that, the highlight will be the formation and continuation of our friendships. So, whilst most new years resolutions are no longer top of mind, I invite you to take a few minutes and enjoy this edition. Get inspired by the extraordinary work being done by associations worldwide and have this set the tone for the year.

RTI V ICE PRESIDENT

THE FUTURE IS IN OUR HANDS By Mr JAYANT AGRAWAL, Round Table International Vice President, 2021-2022

THE RTI BOARD HAS CONSISTENTLY PROMOTED sharing best practices amongst member associations. As a brotherhood organisation, we always believe a success story in one association can positively affect if followed and implemented by other fellow associations. Inspired by our Norwegian brothers and following our motto, we are proud to launch the Global Operation Headhunter campaign. All of us know of several good candidates to join our movement. Traditionally, the focus has been to grow your own club. This campaign encourages members to think outside of their own club and identify great candidates for the future. We request all our members to please think about young men that you know that might fit well into Round Table. Have a quick discussion with them and ask if you can add their details to this Tabler.World form that we have created. Tabler.World Form

Upon receiving the data, we will review this and share it with the respective regional chairman and the national board of the potential association. The candidate will then be contacted by their local clubs to start the process. Should anyone not wish their details shared, please do not add them to the form. We respect the privacy of everyone and will ensure that all General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) regulations are adhered to. We are considering various avenues to track and incentivise the success of this campaign. We plan to recognise the member who provides us the most new candidates and the member who brings in the most successful candidates. Associations will also be recognised in this manner. Should this campaign prove successful, we plan to roll this out to the rest of the RT Family members. Imagine the number of contacts we can get if we have 100,000 members available to provide this information. The future of Round Table is in our hands. Tomorrow's generation will look back at us and judge us on what we do today. We call on all members and associations to embrace this campaign so that we live the theme of #StrongerTogether and grow our movement even more.

CEE REGION

CENTR AL & EASTERN EUROPE REGION

THE DIFFERENCE WE MAKE By MARC GERMESHAUSEN, CEE Chairman 2021-2022

DEAR TABLERS AROUND THE WORLD, Greetings from Central and Eastern Europe! With our theme of “adopt, adapt and improve”, we can affect much more than we sometimes realise. It is a way to initiate and create new activities and projects within our clubs. We do not need to reinvent the wheel, especially when sharing best practices. Within all associations, there are excellent examples that work very well in their surroundings but might need to be adopted and adapted for yours. As we are Tablers, we also find a reason to improve it – to make it even more special for your club. When we look at the associations within Central and Eastern Europe, we always see wonderful projects, especially community service. Our region shows the value of working together in the Christmas convoy project. Many associations within the region are collaborating to bring children eyes to shine. Sometimes we think our club alone cannot create a massive impact, but every small step makes a difference. If we need manpower, it is time to work together with other clubs or associations. We can see that RT Austria is supporting projects within their 90/10 service activity in South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Mauritius. In RT Belgium, all clubs are collaborating for the sandwich projects. RT Germany has their National Service Project every year, where all clubs donate some funds to it. RT Great Britain & Ireland are all together fulfilling Children’s Wishes. The clubs in RT Hungary are selling Teddy Bears. RT Luxembourg is organising a massive Duck Race in the capital year by year with their clubs. RT The Netherlands is organising great Blood Donation activities. RT Romania and RT Moldova are handling the distribution of the Christmas parcels from RT Germany, RT Austria, and RT Denmark. Let me share a story of my club – RT11 Villach/Austria. We initiated in 2006 the Euro11 school in Biratnagar/Nepal with eight classrooms and 250 students. We have set the next level, and we would like to build four new classrooms to reach +450 students, including a high school soon. Such a project is possible when all clubs in Europe from #11 cooperate in setting a new level for the difference we

ASSOCIATIONS RT Austria RT Belgium

want to make! Everything is possible if you are #StrongerTogether. We live nowadays when we sometimes need to check our own neighbourhood. There is a need, and we as

RT Germany

Tablers need to keep our eyes open for people in need and support them where

RT Great Britain and Ireland

we can. It is not always necessary to help them financially. However, sometimes we

RT Hungary RT Luxembourg RT Moldova RT Romania RT The Netherlands

need to listen carefully and give them a shoulder to lean on. We all can cause an impact if we are standing and working #StrongerTogether. I cannot wait to see you all very soon at the RTIHYM in Morocco to live the fellowship we are used to.

NEA REGION

NORTHERN EUROPE & AMERICAS REGION

THE NEA WAY OF TABLING By ALEKSANDER OTTOKAR, NEA Chairman 2021-2022

POWERFUL ROUND TABLE INTERNATIONAL, greetings from snowy Estonia. It’s so great to write to you again on what is happening in our region. Although the Northern Europe & Americas region covers a vast geographical area, we still struggle with the same problem - pandemic. Regardless of the situation all over the world it’s still so inspiring how Brothers find ways to contribute to the communities and to people in need. Looking at the region I see we can learn a lot from each other. I would like to touch on a few of these points. Our brothers from Round Table Trinidad & Tobago are really stepping up with charity. Their project “Food or Forty” - where at each fortnightly meeting, each Tabler is required to bring a nonperishable food item OR pay TT$40. Which is pooled and donated to charitable needs quarterly. Consistency is key here and it really shows how much you can achieve if you do things together. Round Table Estonia had a Half Year Meeting where all the fines from the Sergeant at Arms were donated to a school for kids with special needs. Also, a wonderful project from Round Table Denmark, where Danish Tablers organized a Danish Christmas convoy to Romania, where they delivered Christmas presents to poor children. It is a prime example of how this year's theme "Stronger Together" works. Another big part of today's world is fellowship and how much we can enjoy it today. That said it’s very important to keep our traditions at heart. Keeping the brotherhood going is essential for Finland. Many clubs held closed sessions during the Christmas season for saunas, church, and some even threw parties when possible. These types of traditions and practise really help clubs grow. Finally, I'm going to speak about some of the growth happening in our region. Although we still plan to go to Mexico, the pandemic has forced us to postpone our trip. We are working on ways to keep the momentum up. The other big one is a possible club opening in the United States, but more info in due time. Our Vice President and I are working hard on growing our region to the potential it has. Also, Round Table Finland is pushing their association ahead by rechartering a new club in April and recruiting new members. The successful Head Hunter Project is still going strong in Norway. Also, E-clubs are becoming more popular in associations

ASSOCIATIONS RT Canada RT Denmark

where distances are big like Canada or United States. Round Table Trinidad & Tobago has established “RTTT eClub” a modified version of an RTI eClub where their prospects have a WhatsApp chat with all Tablers whilst being vetted and can

RT Estonia

attend our regular fortnightly meeting for a “social” prior to the formal Tabler

RT Iceland

meeting. Let's keep growing our beautiful organisation by any means necessary!

RT Latvia RT Lithuania RT Norway RT Russia

I would like to close with an example from Round Table Haapsalu 11, Estonia, where they randomly chose a member of their club and had him host a dinner for 2 other members of the club. This is a very valuable social opportunity to deepen the

RT Soumi Finland

bonds between club members. So guys, keep safe and I hope to see you all sooner

rather than later

EMBRACING INNOVATIONS BY DARREL BENOIT, AMI Chairman 2021-2022

AMI BELIEVES THAT WE ARE BROTHERS FIRST. Inspiring each other to improve what we do in our daily lives is what keeps us strong. The current global hardship has forced us to adapt to new innovative ways of doing things to better serve our purpose. We refuse to see each challenge as a nail as this will only makes us consider ourselves only as a hammer; we are much more than that. We are proud AMI Superheroes because we believe in lifting each other and this is what we do every day. Looking after each other’s welfare is key to continued fellowship. Stay connected on a friendly platform is essential for continued fellowship and sharing of ideas and achievements. AMI has initiated an AMI Tablers Fellowship WhatsApp group whereby everyone in the region is free to share anything that will continue to promote camaraderie and best practices. This group is widely used by members from all the different associations and some relevant RTI team members as well. Birthday greetings, Rondel Friday greetings, local fellowship events are all shared and enjoyed in this group. The AMI Regional team also believes that the know-how of doing things is key to success. No one has monopoly on ideas and consultation has proved to be very fruitful. Engaging in inter-association exchange agreements has allowed some associations in the region to assist each other in different ways through various consultation opportunities. Members have developed relationships on different level and these relationships are growing strong day by day. To ascertain where we are heading, we need to understand what we stand for. There is a superb initiative at ARTSA in this regard. Basically the board has allocated some motivational words to the different tabling areas, e.g: the western Province has been allocated with the words “Be the light” this can be interpreted In many different ways, however you will agree that it generally means ‘Be the motivator, give hope, be the example people would want to follow. A motivational theme or motto creates the drive to success. Always have a target and never stop until you have achieved it. Membership & Growth and Constitution are two topics that have been included

ASSOCIATIONS RT Arabian Gulf RT Botswana RT Cameroon RT Eastern Africa RT Madagascar RT Malawi RT Mauritius

in some associations’ agenda, Having to discuss these two topics at each business meeting, it gives members a chance to better understand the constitution, ask questions and propose improvement amendment as well as to continuously find ways to attract new members and grow the organization as a whole. We at AMI do not exist without our loved ones and other local partners. As we cross this unprecedented time, we pay tribute to all our supporters and remain thankful to our sponsors.

FOR THE LOVE OF TABLE By AVIRAL JAIN, ASPA Chairman 2021-2022

IT WAS VERY HEART-WARMING to see the updates, progress, and determination of Tablers in New Zealand at their successfully conducted HYM, despite the challenges of low member strength and strict COVID restrictions. It is worth sharing that RT NZ has two Vice Presidents, one for each island. It’s a great practice to ensure the physical presence of the National Headboard at various table meetings and events & be available immediately for assistance whenever needed. This practice also increases the aspirational value within the association, inspiring more individuals to come up and take leadership positions. Brothers from Round Table Balclutha 17 New Zealand did a Christmas gifts drive "Giving Tree" for lesser privileged children & collected 90 presents to make their Christmas special. They also executed a successful Charity Golf Tournament which had 100 players and raised 8000 Dollars. A huge shout out to the brothers at Balclutha for the continued great work & best wishes for the upcoming projects. ASPA yet again saw great integration between organizations. Through the Train The Trainer program organised by RT India, they have been successful in training participants from Nepal & Sri Lanka as well. RT Nepal invited trainers from India & along with the local certified trainers conducted National Leadership Conclave for Tablers in Nepal. It was a super hit show which saw participation from 36 Tablers from 20 tables and 6 circlers from Ladies Circle Nepal. A true demonstration of how associations share and leverage resources & knowledge and help each other grow #StrongerTogether. One common thing that our region loves is Cricket. RT India hosted the biggest Fellowship Sporting Event "Jaffa" which had over 350 participants from all over the country. It was definitely a much-needed break for all Tablers from their daily routines and a chance to catch up till COVID struck again. It is a great to see the annual sporting event being one of the most awaited events as it gives tabling a different meaning other than service & fellowship. RT Bangladesh is working on giving a memorable ASPA meet 2022 to all the Tablers. They have continued to do great community service and publicity projects throughout Dhaka. They installed RT Bangladesh branded traffic signs & billboards in the prime locations of the city. On the occasion of 50 years celebration of Bangladesh Independence Day, Dhaka Round Table 1 organised a “Used Toys Giveaway” for unprivileged school students at Kathpencil Pathshala.

ASSOCIATIONS RT Australia RT Bangladesh

Extensions were taken up in a well planned impactful manner by RT India. A massive total of 454 new tablers were inducted, with 8 new tables chartered and 11 in the pipeline to be chartered in this tabling year. With focus and determination,

RT Hong Kong

anything is possible irrespective of the challenges at hand. RT India has proven this

RT India

by showing the highest growth globally.

RT Malaysia RT Nepal RT New Zealand RT Philippines RT Singapore RT Sri Lanka

With the sudden surge of the 3rd COVID wave, we pray for the safety & wellbeing of all the Tablers & their families around the world. Please take care friends & looking forward to seeing you all in Morocco for the HYM 2022. Yours in Table

LIFE IS ALL ABOUT BALANCE. TO RETAIN PROPER BALANCE IN OUR LIVES, WE NEED TO MAKE AND KEEP CERTAIN COMMITMENTS TO OURSELVES AND OTHERS. THESE COMMITMENTS LEAD TO THE BEST TABLING EXPERIENCE AND WILL TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE IF APPLIED BEYOND TABLE. By Mr GRAHAM CORNELISSEN RT 217, Southern Africa

A

S WE GROW UP, more and more responsibilities come along. We all have jobs, families and people who rely on us. We get distracted quickly, climbing the corporate ladder, or acquiring more stuff. We get distracted

by our accomplishments or those of our children. Before we know it, we have lost focus on the big picture and have several imbalances in our lives.

Our membership in Round Table can provide us with the balance that we need to succeed in life. We get to meet new people, experience unique events and hold out a hand to someone who needs it. We travel to places we have never been or would never have gone to and see our communities differently. Round Table changes us as men, and if we Table in the right way, these changes are always for the better. We know that our Tabling career has an expiry date as in life. Whether we leave at 40 or 45, we each have a ticking clock that will spell the end of our time. Because we know when our time runs out, we have no excuse but to get stuck in and do our part. At the end of our Tabling career is the first time that we can all look back and realise the balance that Table has brought to our lives. We realise that it has been a privilege to have been a part of this organisation. When looking back, we tend to regret the opportunities we did not take, rather than the ones we embraced.

There are certain fundamentals in life as there are fundamentals in Round Table. Ensuring that these are in balance is the key to having remarkable personal growth and getting the most out of your Tabling career.

We commit to treating everyone fairly and leaving the world in a better place than we found it. When taking these commitments and applying this outside of Table, you will see the results of your actions. "SELF-CARE IS NEVER A SELFISH ACT, IT IS SIMPLY GOOD STEWARDSHIP OF THE ONLY GIFT I HAVE, THE GIFT I WAS PUT ON EARTH TO OFFER TO OTHERS." PA R K ER PA L M ER

By Mr PAUL HOEKSEMA RT 32, Southern Africa

There is no denying that the last couple of years has taken a big toll on Joe Tabler & that navigating through the ongoing pandemic challenges even those that are strongest mentally. As a result, there will be times when we experience moments of low self-esteem.

R T I L E G A C Y | be kind to yourself

February marks "International Boost Self-Esteem Month" - the perfect opportunity to reflect, to take a step back, to re-evaluate & to adjust how we see ourselves. There are certain steps we can take to help us lift our self-esteem in these said lows:

1

ACC E P T T H AT YO U H AV E FL AW S Nobody is perfect, even the highest-paid actors will tell you that there is something that they would like to change about themselves. Your flaws will only have a negative impact if you allow them to. Some flaws can be worked on, maybe losing some weight or working on your daily grooming, but these should never drive you to change at the core - the unique individual that you are.

2

E X E RC I S E As a proud Young Men's Organisation, & as one of our core pillars, the health of ourselves

3

BE K IND TO YO U R S E L F Everyone has heard it before, thinking negative can make you negative. We tend to spend a lot of time breaking ourselves down & being excessively hard on ourselves. We need to realise that making mistakes is a part of being human. Next time a negative thought crosses your mind, take a deep breath, recognize what you're doing & counter this with a positive thought of yourself.

& that of our brothers will always be a top priority. When you engage in physical activity, your body releases endorphins, which in return trigger a positive feeling & a sense of achievement. Exercising doesn't necessarily mean training for a marathon, it can be as simple as taking the dogs out for a walk

4

S T O P CO M PA R I N G YO U R S E L F T O O T H E R S Social media never reflect one's true self. The picture you might see of someone you deem perfect on Instagram hardly ever tells the whole story. Sure, we all crave acceptance, but someone else's successes will never take away from your own. The next time you catch yourself wishing you were someone else, take a step back & take some time out to reflect on what you have achieved in your own life.

28

R T I L E G A C Y | be kind to yourself

5

S E T M A N AG E A B L E S H O R T-T E R M G OA L S Achieving short-term goals will give you a sense of achievement & will drive you to do more. It can be as simple as doing small handyman upgrades at home, starting your fitness journey, or raising your hand to lead the next project at your Table. These goals should be achievable - this is a sure-fire way of boosting your self-esteem

6

PR AC T IC E SELF- CARE A self-care routine will promote a feeling of peace & well-being. Even if you are extremely busy, you need to allocate time in your day to engage in activities that promote well-being. From reading a self-help book, practicing good hygiene to getting enough sleep & the right diet, self-care ultimately adds to a happier you.

"Now that you read this list, our wish is that you will be kind to yourself, to others & that you'll Adopt, Adapt & Improve any & all practices that improve your well-being." 29

You need to be a big group, so this is perfect to play at a club meeting! You play in teams, preferably 3-5 teams, with atleast 2 in every team, the best is 3-4 people in each team. Each person gets 3-4 small pieces of paper, on these you write a name/word/meaning, but it has to be something you think everyone knows or are familiar with. After everyone has written something on their papers, you fold and collect the notes and put them in a bowl/jar/ hat, make sure to shuffle them. You play three rounds, each round with different rules. Round 1: The 1st round you put the timer on 45

The amount of right guesses equals points for your team. Keep the notes you guess right. After 45 seconds, move on to the next team and repeat until you're out of notes. Round 2: Put the timer on 40 seconds. Now you have to do charades, the player who is reading paper cannot speak or make any sound. If the player starts talking or making sounds, their turn is immediately over. You are only allowed to pass on a note once this round. Round 3: In the final round you put the timer on 30 seconds. No charades this turn, you may only say ONE word, and of course the word can’t be anything written on the paper. Since you can only say one word and cannot pass a note, take your time and think of a good word. When the bowl is empty, count your points. The team with the most points wins. Please feel free to make your own house rules, or change the timer in the rounds or anything else, whatever works for your group.

L ADIES' CIRCLE

THE POWER OF A TEAM A FEW WEEKS AGO, I watched my very first Formula 1 race ever. Man, did I pick a good one because as a Dutchie, I saw ‘our’ Max Verstappen win an epic race. As this was all new to me, I was lucky a friend was over to explain the dos and don’ts to me and my husband (who was also a F1 virgin). The thing that struck me the most was that I had never thought that F1 is not a solo sport. It is not just about being an excellent racer. Surely, I knew that having an incredibly fast car helps a lot too, but I learned that you only win a race as a team. You never really see the team if you don’t look for it. It is a Max or a Hamilton whom you see on the stage, in the news or all-over social media. But when you look for it, it is not hard to see that every single person in the team is crucial for the drivers to shine. From the ones who do the calculating on the tires, which fascinates me extremely, by the way, to the co-drivers who clear the road; all are equally important if you want to be successful. In LC and RT, it is not different, in my opinion. Every one of us is equally important to our association and to our RT Family. What we contribute may be different, but not less. Being the chairman or President is not more important than being ‘just’ a Tabler or Circler. You don’t win an F1 championship if you have ‘just’ a good driver and a fast car, you need a team. One Circler doesn’t make Ladies’ Circle, and one Tabler doesn’t make Round Table, a group of Circlers or Tablers do. One club doesn’t make a family, but together we do. Watching the F1 championship made me realize how appropriate our joined motto of this year is. Sometimes we tend to forget the importance of a team. Everybody has their own role to play with their own strengths. Being unique adds a new quality to the team. We can’t all change tires, we also need a coach, a wingman, and so much more. With all our own skills, we are Stronger Together. I’m already looking forward to seeing what this first-ever joint motto will bring us all, but I trust it will be fantastic. Also, I can’t wait for the next season of F1, and I’m very keen on learning more about it. So please do tell me all the things I need to know. Yours, in friendship and service

GET TO KNOW THE RTI E-CLUB By Mr JAYANT AGRAWAL and Mr GRAHAM CORNELISSEN

In 2021, we launched the RTI E-Club. We are currently looking for members to join up and continue their Tabling journey. Here is a list of 5 key things to know about the RTI E-Club:

40

R T I L E G A C Y | the rti e - club

WHY DO WE NEED AN E-CLUB? Life happens – there are a great many Tablers who emigrate or move to areas where Round Table does not have a presence. Some Clubs close where there still are one or two members who still want to be active. These members and their knowledge, experience, and skills are lost to Round Table. Furthermore, we see new prospects in countries or cities where Round Table is not present. The process of starting a new Association or a new Club is onerous. These prospective members often never complete the road to becoming a part of Round Table.

The RTI E-Club will only accept the following members: The member is relocating to another country or area where there is no Round Table club or association present within 50km’s; or A club has closed, and there is no other Round Table club present within 50km’s; or Where the executive board of an Association provides written permission for this member to join the Association, for whatever reason. The RTI E-Club is only open to members up to 40 years of age.

The e-Club solves this problem by providing a home for

WELCOME TO MOROCCO Marrakech lies at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, making it a stunning location. Like many north African cities, it is mainly divided the old, fortified city and a modern city nearby. What makes Marrakech unique is the warmth and the sociability of the inhabitants.

HE NAME OF MARRAKECH has most probably been derived from the Berber words ‘mur(n) akush ‘, meaning the land of God. Until a few decades ago, Arabs, Persians, and Europeans, referred to Morocco the Kingdom of Marrakech.

Founded in the 11th century, it was the capital of an empire that stretched from Spain to Senegal. Roaming around the city of Marrakech is very

interesting, with little souks in the small alleys and squares many of them dedicated to specific crafts. The medina part of Marrakech is a great location to find some fantastic eating options. There are many French style cafés, bistros, and restaurants. The main hotel, Kenzi Rose Garden, is less than 5 minutes’ walk from the old town and in the heart of the hotel and tourist district. This will be the setting for the RTI Half Year meeting in March 2022

DAY TOURS DAY TO U R 1 MARR AKECH SIGHTSEEING (2 options available) One of the most impressive sights in Marrakech, the Koutoubia is one of the largest, most beautiful mosques in the western Muslim world. Its 225 foot tall minaret is a Hispano-Moresque masterpiece that is very similar to the Giralda of Seville. El Bahia Palace was built in the late 19th century in a two acre garden. It is a haphazard arrangement of secret luxury apartments opening to inner courtyards. For seven years around a thousand craftsmen from the Fez region worked on the palace. The only sections open to the public are the apartments of the sultan´s favorite concubine, the council chamber (with tiled walls and illuminated cedar wood ceiling) and the great central courtyard (paved with marble and decorated with zelliges and fountains). The Saâdian Tombs with their delicate decorations and pure architectural lines are considered by many to be a beautiful feat of architecture. They were first built to house the tombs of the Saadian Sultan, Ahmed el Mansour. In 1591 the first “koubba” of this burial ground was built south of the Casbah. At the base of the Atlas Mountains lie the Menara Gardens. Covering an area of 250 acres, they are full of olive trees surrounding a large central lake that dates back from the 12th century and is fed by a network of irrigation channels. At the water´s edge is a small Saadian pavilion. With the snow-covered peaks behind it, this is a breathtaking sight in the evening when it catches the golden rays of the setting sun. Marrakech Full Day option 1

MARR AKECH BAZA AR To better discover Marrakech, enter an intricate maze of the narrow streets in the world of the souks. Protected from the sun by slatted awnings, you will find a variety of quarters established by craftsmen, according to a structured system of corporation. There are souks of basketwork, dried fruit, spices, clothes, wool, skins, Berber carpet, leatherwork, ironwork, jewellery and more! Some souks of note include the Rue du Souk Smarine which leads into the Place rahba Kedima, where a slave market was once held (it remains an important commercial site). There are also a few apothecary shops here and there.

DAY TO U R 2 MAJORELLE GARDEN V ISI T & HOR SE-DR AWN CARRI AGE RIDE Our excursion begins with the Majorelle subtropical garden, which is one of the most pleasant places in the red city. However, it is a small, meticulously planned botanical garden, created since the 1920s by French painter Jacques Majorelle. It is the most visited park in Marrakech and worth a visit. Then we will take a carriage ride, which is another alternative to visit the city of Marrakech and its ramparts. 1h of Horse Carriage Ticket Jardin Majorelle

DAY TO U R 3 Q UA D R I D E I N T H E PA L M G ROV E Express your desire for freedom and fun on 4 wheels in the middle of the palm grove. You will need more a sand mask than an anti-covid mask.

DAY TO U R 4 HOT A IR BALLOON FLIGHT The Ocher city borders the Atlas Mountains and the Jbel Toubkal, which, at an altitude of 4167m, is the highest point in North Africa. Come and experience a breath-taking spectacle from the sky, admiring the surrounding mountains and plains, on a silent and environmentally friendly journey.

DAY TO U R 5 C ABLE WAKEBOARD Practice different sliding sports and improve your tan, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains.

Marrakech Full Day option 2

DJEMA A EL FNA SQUARE, MARR AKESH Next we will visit Djemaa El Fna. This traditional meeting place for peasants and merchants from the Sous region, the High atlas and the South has become the heart of Marrakech. In the mornings this large square is crowded with fruit and spice sellers, guerrab with their leather water bottles and metal drinking cups, basket sellers, ironmongers and Barbers. In the afternoons come the Gnaoua dancers descended from former Guinean slaves, musicians, story tellers, snake charmers and entertainers with performing monkeys!

Spanning over a short period of just over 3 months, our Brothers from Malawi, with the help of their network of volunteers, showed the meaning of true Table passion by being the agents of change in friendship & their communities, effecting a host of impactful projects:

D O N AT I N G L I V E - G I V I N G B LO O D Under the flag of the RTI Blood Brothers initiative, Round Table Dwangwa 69 orchestrated a sizable blood drive, urging the community to save lives by donating blood. At their first event, held in March in Mzuzu, they managed to collect 19 pints. Their second event held in October, on home ground in Matiki, delivered a massive 90 pints. To wrap up their campaign in December, they partnered up with the Lions Club of Dwanga to record another sizable donation of 74 pints. In total, Round Table Dwangwa 69 mobilized 183 pints that were collected by Malawi Blood Transfusion Services to save lives. Joining the Malawi blood drive efforts, Members of Blantyre 20 & Lilongwe 32 hosted local blood drives to collect 45 pints as replenishment to vital blood stock levels.

T E E I N G O FF F O R C H A R I T Y Round Table Lilongwe 32 hosted a charity golf day that raised just under 4 million kwacha (4 262,18 euros). The funds raised have since been allocated to building a school block for an orphanage called Streetwise. Extending a helping hand from across the waters, Club 41 Germany most recently donated 10 000 euros to aid in the school's construction. .

THINK ING PINK Showing their support to local women fighting breast cancer, Lilongwe 32 donated 1.2 million kwacha (61 391.16 euros) to Malawi's Think Pink breast cancer awareness project. Recognising their valuable contribution, the Table was asked to lead the campaign's 4-kilometer walk, sporting the Think Pink banner.

T H E WAT E R I N G H O L E S Lilongwe 32 hosted a lively beer festival with 260 festival-goers in attendance. On offer at the fun-filled event - a variety of craft beers, wine, & of course great food. Child-friendly activities such as a jumping castle & face painting entertained the little ones present. Travelling Tabler Rob Crosbie, Vice-Chairman of Golden East 181 (Southern Africa), added an international flair & re-affirmed the endless travelling opportunities Round Table provides. Live entertainment in the form of big-screen sport added excitement as supporters cheered on the Scotland versus South Africa rugby game. Blantyre 20 did their part to quench thirsts at their Annual Oktober Fest. The festival was held just after the Government's Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, resulting in a lower number of patrons with 400 guests in attendance. The lower numbers did not take away from the day's banter & ever-present laughter, food, & ample drink. The fan-favourite event raised a total of 900,000 kwacha (45 852,39 euros) the proceeds were used as the annual beneficiary funds to the Mpemba Boy’s Reformatory Center. Adding to their Reformatory Center commitment, Blantyre received a donation from the Colony Club Casino, that pledged a total of 1 million kwacha (51 459.94 euros). The said donation enjoyed full press coverage in the local newspapers as well as online platforms.

M PE M B A B OY ' S R E F O R M AT O RY Honouring a cherised tradition of the past 61 years, Blantyre held their traditional Christmas lunch & donation handover for the Mpemba Boys Reformatory Center. In high spirits after their bus ride, the children enjoyed ice-cream in town on their arrival. After heading back to the Reformatory the children were greeted by a hearty lunch with Tablers, 41ers, & friends of Table in attendance. After their lunch, the official ceremony was held in the hall. The donators were humbled by poems & songs performed by the children to show their appreciation. The Ceremonial donation consisted of 100 trees, wheelbarrows, shovels, shoes, food items, sanitary products, clothes, & a sewing machine - a total of 1.4 million kwacha (71 623.92 euros) worth of much-needed supplies. The highlight of the day in the hearts of the Tablers was a soccer match between Tablers & the Mpemba Boys, sadly this year, Table lost 3-1.

D R I V E N B Y FR I E N D S H I P Blantyre, Lilongwe & Dwangwa 69 got together in Dwangwa to enjoy a weekend of Association fellowship where the bond of Table grew stronger & the newer inductees got the chance to meet seasoned Tablers & 41ers from outside of their Club. The weekend's itinerary included a round of golf, a Table meeting of all 3 Tables on the beachfront of Lake Malawi, & a donation of 150 x 20 litre buckets of goods to the Lilwaladzi Secondary School. SOMETHING'S BREW ING

DISCOVER THE BEERS OF TABLER BELGIUM By Mr WILLEM BONNEUX, National PRO Round Table Belgium

Ask people around the world what Belgium is best known for. Chances are many will mention “beer” without hesitation. This Western-European kingdom has forever been the cradle of an amazingly rich beer culture and currently has around 1,500 beer brands. No country has so many different brews, from pilsener and Trappist beers to Flemish red ales and gueuze… Belgian beers come in all colours, flavours and alcohol percentages. In a country enamoured with beer, no wonder local Round Table clubs have introduced beers of their own. Which is why in this issue of Legacy, we take you on a journey through our country from west to east exploring the great beers of Tabler Belgium.

A CULINARY DELIGHT

STRONG AS A BULL

THE UNDERGROUND TRIPEL

Our exploration begins in the western part of the country where RT59 Zelzate is treating us to their Fourchette tripel since 2019. Tripel beers in general are strong pale ales. This specific one is a full-bodied multi-grain tripel with a golden colour and a 7,5% alcohol content. It is softly bitter, yet pleasantly refreshing. Fourchette was created in 2019 by a collaboration of RT59, local master chefs and the Van Steenberge brewery. For years now RT59 has been organising an oyster sale on both Christmas eve and New Year's eve. Looking to complement their offering they decided to create this beer in a corked 75cl bottle, the perfect companion to a plate of oysters. Fourchette is best enjoyed in a large glass specifically created to fully enjoy this culinary delight.

Moving eastwards, we remain in the Flemish, Dutch speaking, part of the country. Here we meet up with RT97 Bornem. Known as “the Bulls” this club launched their Stierenbier - Bulls Beer - for the first time in 2012. Back then this was in honour of the 40th anniversary of RT73. At that year's Zone Meeting, every participating Tabler received a bottle of Stierenbier to take home. Which was the start of a fundraiser success story with Stierenbier Christmas hampers sold four years in a row until 2016. After which the Bulls went quiet… Until 2021 when RT97 revived their Stierenbier in a collaboration with the Moortgat brewery - known for their Duvel and La Chouffe beers among others. Moorgat brewed the Stierenbier in one of their smaller breweries where they regularly experiment with new flavours and brews. The current Stierenbier is a variant of the well-known La Chouffe Houblon, a strong IPA style beer with a bitter and fruity taste. With a 9% alcohol content, this Stierenbier is literally strong… as a bull.

Before we head into the Walloon, French speaking part of the country, we go underground with RT47 Mol. As their hometown’s name literally means ‘mole’ in English, it doesn’t come as a surprise the Table’s emblem is graced by a cartoon of this ground-dwelling mammal. When the sanitary crisis hit the world, their traditional fundraiser, a whirlwind walking dinner was jeopardized. Ready to adapt in true Tabler spirit, RT47 brewed up a new idea by creating their very own “Tafeleir” tripel. It is a gentle tripel with an alcohol content of 7.2% and a long, full aftertaste. The result of diligent work by a few beer avid lovers from RT47 in collaboration with brew engineer Jef Goetelen from 't Hofbrouwerijke in Beerzel. Tafeleir was inspired by the Trappist tripel of Westmalle - the first of its kind - combined with the creaminess of Tripel d'Anvers and a sprinkling of La Chouffe. According to the guys from Mol, their beer “touches you, tingles your senses and conquers your heart. A liquid aphrodisiac that shimmers in your glass.” Put like that, after a glass of Tafeleir it’s most unlikely any mole will remain underground for long.

DOWN SOUTH

PURE AMA ZEMENT

A N E L U S I V E S P E C I A LT Y

After travelling the country from west to east, we are now moving downwards to Liège. Part of the southern, French speaking - Walloon - part of Belgium, this is a relatively big city with an exceptionally rich history. It has no less than four, yes 4!, Round Table clubs. Two of these RT’s have launched their own beer in recent times. First up is RT97 with their Citra-Hop. The international rebirth of the craft beer culture has made room for new aromas and flavor hops. No recent hop has taken the craft beer world quite like the Citra variety. As the name suggests this hop’s main draw is a fruity citrus flavor unlike any other hop presently available. This makes RT97 Citra-Hop into a relatively light, bitter and fruity blonde beer with an alcohol content of 6,2%. The local Experiment’Ale brewery who has created this beer for RT97 already brewed two batches of 1.000 litres (as in 6.000 bottles). Next batch is scheduled for the month of March. Right in time for the spring and summer seasons where this refreshing beer is ideally suited for.

As we leave Liège, we travel further southwards to the town of Chaudfontaine. The realm of Round Table 88. Next to a famous chocolate factory and an equally famous natural water source, Chaudfontaine has its own Tabler beer as well. The Ewarée name might sound unfamiliar but is the local tongue for ‘surprising’ or even better ‘amazing’. Produced in collaboration with the Grain d’Orge brewery, it’s a blonde high fermentation beer brewed with all natural ingredients such as barley malt. What’s interesting about this beer is that it has been not only 33cl bottled but 200 liters were also made available in kegs for the local christmas market. Meanwhile RT88 claims 1.430 liters of Ewarée have entered into the bloodstreams of the local population, leaving them simply amazed.

A saison is a classic Belgian beer style found rarely outside of the French-speaking Walloon part of the country. Saison beers are invariably crisp, refreshing. Historically they were brewed after the winter for the seasonal workers who came to help harvesting in the hot summer months. That’s why a saison beer is very thirst quenching and not very strong on alcohol. Round Table 105 - also from the town of Liège - got its Saison 105 beer from the MarcusBeer brewery. This blonde farmhouse ale is unfiltered and unpasteurized and develops fine, slightly spicy hop aromas. The hops used for the beer come from a nearby hop farm and are also featured on the label. Brewer Marc Ravet mentioned several hundreds of liters of the Saison 105 have already been produced for his Round Table friends. Not only do the Saison 105 sales help raise funds for RT105, it’s also a great way to help preserve a historical beer style in all its splendour.

T R 114 STR A IGHT FROM THE WOODS The result of a collaboration between the Grain d'Orge brewery and the Round Table 114 of Durbuy, TR114 is a tasty and refreshing beer. A slightly cloudy and finely sparkling blonde beer with a beautiful white head. A barley malt beer, the notes that emerge are exotic and are felt both in the nose and on the palate thanks to the subtle cocktail of two types of hops. Citra hops give it a more floral and citrusy character, while Amarillo hops give it flavours reminiscent of grapefruit. With an alcohol content of 6.5%, this light beer goes perfectly with tapas or other light dishes such as salads, cheese, mussels and other seafood. You will notice the wild boar in both the TR114 label as well as in RT114’s emblem. That is because the town of Durbuy is located in the middle of the densely wooded Ardennes region, where wild boars roam.

L’ I N S O R TA B L E CHEEK Y IS COOL We are at the last stop in our exploration of the great beers of Tabler Belgium and find ourselves in the far east of the country. Chartered in 1956, not many Belgian clubs are older than the Round Table 13 of Verviers. This doesn’t mean they don’t keep young and edgy though. Their Insortable beer label features a rather playful old lady and is characteristic for the cheeky nature of RT13. They claim you only drink their beer ‘at the table’. It’s an amber beer, fruity with hops and spices and a gentle bitterness. This beer came about thanks to the collaboration with the Val-Dieu abbey brewery in Aubel. Three months ago, when RT13 launched their beer, 5.500 33cl bottles were produced. With its alcohol contents of 7%, no wonder it can get cheeky quite fast in Verviers.

FINAL THOUGHTS At the end of our Belgian beer journey, here’s a parting thought. This story wasn’t only about the rich history of our country’s beers. Of course it was to honour the Tables that took the initiative to create these beers and raise funds for their charities. But that’s not all. By brewing their own beers, these Tables have set a wonderful example of how a Round Table club can show engagement and collaboration within their local communities and bring about a positive image of our organisation. Not only do these beers taste great and look the part, they are prime examples of how local clubs can achieve wonderful things if they work together and go for it. Cheers!

THE SNEAKER It is made of smooth blue leather and prominently features the Dutch Round Table Logo. To show that this is a Dutch initiative, white and orange shoelaces come with the sneaker. A very special touch is the Dutch flag. This location on the shoe is usually reserved for the GIJS Schoenen logo, but Mr Van Drunen has made a special exception to this. Instead of the usual logo, the Dutch flag is used with your own Round Table number in it to add to the personalized feel of the sneakers. As a finishing touch, our creed ADOPT-ADAPT-IMPROVE has been added to the side, creating a sneaker that is truly in the spirit of Round Table

THE DRESS SHOES The decision was made to go for a timeless design for the dress shoe. A shoe that will fit any occasion, casual and business and can be used for any Round Table event. The shoe is made from smooth brown leather and has a glossy finish. Like the sneaker, the Dutch Round Table logo features prominently on the side of the shoe. The shoe will be delivered with black and orange shoelaces. On the back of the shoe, our Creed ADOPT-ADAPTIMPROVE can be spotted. You will receive the unique Table Shoe Pin with every pair of Table shoes!

F O OT B A L L AT T H E H Y M ONE OF THE NEW INITIATIVES coming this year is the introduction of sporting events at the major RTI meetings. As young men, we all understand the comradery built around sport and the various benefits that this unlocks. For the RTI HYM in Morocco, we have decided to start with a football (soccer) tournament. This will take place on Saturday, the 12th of March, where one team from each region and one team from the RTI Board will compete. The games will be shorter to allow more participation and have an action-packed event within the time constraints. Anyone attending the HYM will be eligible to play for their regional team. Get in touch with your regional chairman and let him know if you want to be a part of this. The winners will receive a floating trophy to defend at the next RTI Meeting.
