NXP Collaborates with NVIDIA to Accelerate A.I. Deployment with Integration of TAO Toolkit with NXP Edge Devices NVIDIA GTC, NXP Semiconductors N.V. announced a collaboration with NVIDIA that enables NVIDIA’s trained A.I. models to be deployed on NXP’s broad portfolio of edge processing devices through the eIQ® machine learning development environment. This exciting enablement allows developers to accelerate development in the increasingly competitive world of A.I., which is made possible by the functional integration of the NVIDIA TAO Toolkit into the NXP’s eIQ machine learning development environment. NXP is the first semiconductor vendor to integrate the NVIDIA TAO APIs directly within an A.I. enablement offering, making it easier for developers to deploy trained A.I. models at the edge.

Simplifying the training and deployment of A.I. models is one of the biggest challenges facing today’s A.I. developers. To address this challenge, NXP collaborated with NVIDIA to integrate the NVIDIA TAO APIs directly within NXP’s eIQ machine learning development environment. The NVIDIA TAO low-code A.I. framework makes it easier to leverage trained A.I. models

It is fully integrated into NXP’s MCUXpresso SDK and Yocto Project Linux development environments, allowing developers to develop complete system-level applications with ease.

The eIQ machine learning development environment will directly integrate NVIDIA TAO APIs, delivering a single platform for model A.I. training, optimization, and deployment. NVIDIA TAO provides an API-driven workflow that leverages a collection of pre-trained models and transfer learning to enable users to build custom A.I. models. NVIDIA TAO provides several optimizations, such as model pruning, that increase the inference throughput.

DigiKey and LabsLand Release Prism4 Remote Engineering Hardware System

DigiKey announced the exclusive release of the LabsLand Prism4, a modular structure for building interactive real-time, remote hardware systems faster and more efficiently.

The Prism4’s design supports remote hardware systems with cameras, modular lights, and evaluation boards. The platform also includes a set of Phase Dock workbench bases where devices can be attached using clicks and slides.

Each Prism4 hosts specific ready-toship hardware systems available for different technologies, including field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), select microprocessors, and microcontrollers. In addition, Prism4’s extensible system design supports the creation of remote laboratories for other fields, allowing for various uses, such as remote education and training using real equipment.

With the development and release of the Prism4 through DigiKey, engineers, designers, and suppliers have access to a remote engineering platform for new product demonstration, evaluation, product testing, and design, allowing engineers to try out hardware before purchasing. Software engineers can also use the platform to learn and develop code and program remote targets using actual hardware instead of simulators. The Prism4 hardware system enables users to control and interact with the target platforms while providing real-time video feedback demonstrating outcomes and results.

Air Force selects Stratom to develop a machine learning-driven system for asset tracking

Stratom announced its selection to develop an Autonomous Asset Tracking System — or AATS — utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning for camera systems to accurately identify and track military logistics assets across various environments and modes of transport.

“Our innovative software stack leverages the latest advances in machine learning to detect and transcribe airplane tail numbers and determine which plane the tail number is associated with.

Next, we’ll be able to communicate that information to databases and AGVs to refuel or load the aircraft autonomously,” said Elizabeth Gilmour, senior robotics perception engineer at Stratom.

“By eliminating the complexities and uncertainties associated with traditional asset tracking systems, our streamlined, modification-free solution simplifies distributed operations while addressing imminent logistics challenges created by adopt-

ing the ‘Agile Combat Employment’ concept.”

Stratom’s initial phase of the Small Business Innovation Research project focuses on the software component, laying the groundwork for a suite of machine learning models that will process images to extract data such as asset type and identification numbers. With this approach, the leading developer of autonomous ground vehicles and robotic systems for commercial and defense applications eliminates the need for physical modifications to current assets, offering a cost-effective and highly scalable solution for logistics operations. In addition to automated asset tracking, the new technology simplifies the orchestration of logistics equipment for cargo, munitions, and refueling on the flight line.

Initially envisioned as a system to help autonomous refueling and cargo-loading vehicles identify the correct aircraft, AATS has received interest from several groups for other potential applications. The text spotting could uniquely

identify airplanes and any asset with an identifying number, such as rail cars, trailers, or pallets.

Further, other customers have shown interest in using this capability to identify relevant text in various operating situations.

Lockheed Martin Awarded $451 Million To Upgrade Additional U.S. Army And International M270 Launchers

The U.S. Army awarded Lockheed Martin a $451 million contract to recapitalize additional M270 systems, expand its domestic fleet of launchers, and provide upgrades for global partners.

The award follows an initial agreement issued in 2019 and subsequent contracts calling for recapitalization to support mission readiness through 2050.

Miller Optics, Inc Receives DFARS Certification Meller Optics, Inc. has announced that it has received DFARS certification. The Defense Acquisition Regulations System (DFARS) regulates the use and dissemination of controlled unclassified information (CUI), which is a step below top-secret. DFARS compliance requires Department of Defense (DoD) contractors to establish security controls for their information systems and the data they move, store, and process.

Meller Optics routinely supplies sapphire optics and optics made from other materials to the U.S. Navy and other DoD agencies and vendors. Founded in 1921, Meller has manufactured parts for NASA and the defense industry since the 1960s. They have supplied windows for the Tomahawk missile’s navigation systems, internal sapphire optics for the stinger missile, and the Sapphire Lens Array for the Kepler Space Telescope.

DFARS standards follow the rules and guidelines set forth by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), specifically its special publication 800-171, which must be adopted by any organization that works for the DoD. The DFARS certification process is comprehensive, includes a site survey, and typically takes over a year.

Boeing Validates Software for Future Manned Unmanned Refueling Missions

Boeing [NYSE: B.A.] has advanced its manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) technology using a digital F/A-18 Super Hornet and MQ-25 Stingray. The testing shows the software is maturing for future U.S. Navy use and has the potential to deploy the teaming capability on both F/A-18 Block II and III Super Hornets.

In a simulator lab, a Boeing-led team virtually demonstrated a F/A-18 pilot commanding an unmanned MQ-25 to release a refueling drogue and refuel the Super Hornet, using existing com-

munications links on both platforms.

The new software is a maturation of tests Boeing has previously done. In addition to the upgraded software, test teams installed hardware and datalinks on both platforms to run the finalized software, further proving Boeing’s readiness to deliver this capability to the Navy.

“MQ-25 is designed to typically receive commands from air vehicle pilots on an aircraft carrier. This software will add a second option, enabling pilots to initiate commands right from their cockpit,” said Alex Ewing, F/A-18 New Product Development lead.

The Boeing-created software will significantly reduce the time it takes for a F/A-18 to communicate with an MQ-25, giving pilots greater flexibility in refueling from longer distances.

“The goal of the demonstrations was to make MUM-T refueling as real as possible,” said Juan Cajigas, director of the Advanced MQ-25 program.

“Aerial refueling is like a ballet as two airplanes come together. Anritsu Company Expands Inline Sensor Family Anritsu Company introduces its inline power sensor MA24103A, designed to measure accurate Peak and True-RMS average power measurements from 25 MHz to 1 GHz and two mW to 150 W power range.

Several applications demand accurate peak and average power measurements well below the frequency range of 1 GHz. Agencies in public safety, avionics (air traffic control and repair stations), and railroads must maintain critical communications between the control centers and the vehicles.
