For example, the use of technology in our businesses has been accelerated it feels as if we have leapt 40 years in 40 days. We have come up with exciting new ways to deliver our products and services – something we would have never thought of doing, but now will most likely become just one of the “new norms” for how we will be doing business.

COUNTY UPDATES Challenging Times Call for Listening and Empathy Bonnie Gore Placer County Supervisor, District 1
This has been a very difficult time for our nation and our community. The horrific death of George Floyd has ignited all types of emotions and reactions. People are angry, people are hurt, and people really want to see change. We need to listen, and I want you to know I am listening. No one ever wants to be fearful when they walk outside of their home or feel like they are being targeted by law enforcement solely based on
the color of their skin. That is not something we stand for in Placer County. This fear and concern are nothing I have ever experienced but I have a daughter and son-in-law who are experiencing it. I need to seek to understand and work to change deep seeded prejudice and racism where I can. I hope I can encourage us all to listen and not ignore the pain and fear expressed by our neighbors
and friends. The only way we can ever hope to understand this is by listening. It is important we engage in conversations spurred on by Mr. Floyd’s death. I want to see constructive discussions about public policy change. One of the most important things we can all do right now is to seek to understand other’s perspectives and take time to listen.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE EVERY MONTH, THE CHAMBER HOLDS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS MEETINGS WHERE MEMBERS CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE CITY, COUNTY, REGION, AND STATE. THE CHAMBER HELD A VIRTUAL MEETING IN APRIL TO DISCUSS A HOMEBUILDING UPDATE, THE PCWA WATER CONTRACT FOR THE CITY, AND THE CITY’S STABILIZATION LOAN PROGRAM. In April, the Roseville Area Chamber led its first Virtual Economic Development & Government Affairs Meeting. Michael Strech of the North State Building Industry Association started the meeting giving an update on the Homebuilding Industry in South Placer County. He shared that our region has always been attractive for builders including overall quality of life, financial strength, job base, and ease to do business with. Strech shared that for the first two months of 2020, there were record total new home sales with the highest numbers since 2007. He also shared that the Sacramento region was able to keep construction open during the Stay at Home Orders and that 50,000+ people were able to continue to work. He shared that because of this, our region is in a very good place for recovery in this industry once the COVID-19 Pandemic ends. Next, Robert Dugan, Board President of the Placer County Water Agency (PCWA), shared about a contract signing with the Bureau of Reclamation on February 28th to protect the water future of the City of Roseville. Because of PCWA’s joint vision, partnership, and effort on lobbying for legislation at the federal level, the City of Roseville and PCWA along with five other regional districts and municipalities, signed a permanent indefinite contract at the base of Folsom Dam. Finally, Wayne Wiley from the City of Roseville shared about the City’s Small Business Stabilization Loan Program. The City gave out over $1 million in loan funds

intended to cover day-to-day operating expenses of impacted businesses. Wiley shared that there was up to $5,000 available in loans for businesses with five or fewer employees and up to $20,000 available for businesses with six to 25 employees. To be eligible, businesses had to be for-profit, independently owned local businesses with a storefront and had demonstrated hardship due to COVID-19. Next, he shared that 276 business applied to the loan program and 111 Roseville businesses received funding with $1,056,000 loaned. The economic impact of this loan program effected 1,092 Roseville jobs.
