I have been affiliated with the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce for some time now. I manage the Westfield Galleria at Roseville property, but prior to this, I was the Vice President Store Manager for Macy’s located at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville. During my time at Macy’s I discovered that there could be a significant advantage to becoming a Chamber Member in the Roseville community. Unfortunately, the Macy’s Corporation had not been set up to support such a relationship and had not regularly endorsed Chamber Memberships at its other locations. I strongly believed, as a manager of a prominent business in our community, that the store and its employees would greatly benefit from being a part of this program. It took some time, many conversations and some help from Wendy Gerig, CEO of the Roseville Area Chamber, to finally convince Macy’s Corporate Team to support the store in becoming a Member of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce in 2008. Macy’s still holds membership today. I share this story with you to illustrate that, in some cases, high-level leadership of a company may be too far removed from what local management sees as valuable in developing and driving business in the local community. In realizing this, it is important for one to fight for what one believes in and take control of
your own business’ success. The goal of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce is to help you to do just that. Westfield, now UnibailRodamco-Westfield, has been a member of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce since 2003. During my time with the Chamber, I have asked myself and others why one would not want to take part in this amazing organization? I’ve heard that some have been in other Chambers and not found value, that even as members they did not utilize the resources and activities that their local Chamber provided. I have not found that to be the case with this Chamber. The Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce holds the U.S. Chamber of Commerce 5-star Accreditation. This prestigious award puts us among the top 1% of the chambers nationwide. It has been my experience both with Macy’s and Westfield that the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce has proven to be a valuable investment. Westfield has sponsored the Chamber’s annual Roseville event and has participated leading presentations and at vendor booths. Restaurants at the Galleria participate in the annual SPLASH event, and our employees actively participate in chamber programs such as Ignite, Leadership Roseville, and attend monthly lunches and breakfasts. These activities and
opportunities for sponsorship provide exposure and allows for us to promote our business while demonstrating our commitment to our local community. In fact, our investment has grown over the years. Westfield became a President Circle Member in 2013, meaning that we can participate at a much higher level to market, advertise, and promote our business on a consistent basis. President Circle members can choose from six levels of financial investment. Benefit packages are tailored to meet individual preference. We enjoy the convenience of a onetime, all-inclusive contribution that insures representation at Roseville Area Chamber events, exposure in all its publications, and on the Chamber’s website. I am fortunate to have been a Chamber Member from the prospective of two different companies. I have had the privilege to have served on the Board of Directors for three years. Through my affiliation with the Roseville Area Chamber I have made numerous connections and have formed lasting relationships with business partners, community leaders, and some amazing entrepreneurs. I appreciate the Roseville Area Chamber for providing me opportunities to establish these partnerships and friendships that I will value for a lifetime.

Kaiser Permanente has always attempted to use Chamber members when doing business but this program takes their buying power to a whole new level.

CITY UPDATES Once-a-Decade Opportunity: Reviewing Roseville’s City Charter John B. Allard II Mayor, City of Roseville
How we govern ourselves is at the heart of our democracy. For the City of Roseville, the document that governs how we conduct business is our charter. Every 10 years, the Charter Review Commission determines whether amendments should be recommended to the City Council as time, perspectives, and circumstances evolve and change. Once City Council decides which amendments to place on the ballot, the voters make the final decision. The charter describes term limits, how the mayor is determined, how council vacancies are filled, the spending authority of the city manager, and how the City enacts, amends, and repeals ordinances. In addition, the charter covers the budget, council rules, bond sales,
contract bids, municipal elections, and utility franchises. At each meeting the Charter Review Commission discusses several sections at a time, makes recommendations, asks for additional research or holds topics for further discussion, and it takes public comment. In the fall, the commission will begin to take formal action on changes it plans to recommend to City Council. The City Council will consider the commission’s recommendations and determine which ones it would like voters to consider in the November 2020 election. Residents volunteering to serve were appointed by the City Council in February from a pool of applicants.
Charter review commissioners are Rita Brohman, Sam Cannon, Pete Constant (vice chair), Kristine Dohner, Paul Frank, LaMills Garrett, Susan Rohan (chair), Robert Sanchez, and James Viele. The City’s Charter is our constitution as a city. It’s important that our residents make their voices heard on these key policy areas. We want to hear from our community. The commission meets 5:30-7:30 p.m. every third Monday from March 2019 through April 2020 in Council Chambers at 311 Vernon St. The meetings are broadcast and archived on the City’s website and shown on COR-TV: Comcast 14 and Consolidated 73.
STATE OF THE CITY AT NEW ADVENTIST HEALTH HEADQUARTERS We’ll be holding the annual State of the City address at 8:30 a.m., Friday, October 4 at the new Adventist Health headquarters at 1 Adventist Health Way in Roseville. It’s free to attend but registration is required for site security reasons. An optional breakfast at 7:30 a.m. sponsored by the Roseville Area Chamber requires an advance ticket purchase through the Chamber’s website. Hope to see you there! The Annual State of the City will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 4th at the new Adventist Health Headquarters.

Saturday, September 14th is around the corner and we are so excited for the 24th annual SPLASH event! For those of you who have never been, SPLASH is Roseville’s biggest party with live music, all you can eat and drink from some of Roseville’s best restaurants, wineries, breweries, and more! This is our third SPLASH event we have planned together and we’re anticipating this to be our best year yet! Every year, we donate a portion of the proceeds to the City of Roseville’s Youth Passport program which allows children in Roseville who might not be able to

afford City recreation activities the opportunity to. Last year, the Chamber donated nearly $24,000 to the City and has donated over $400,000 back to the City since the first SPLASH event in 1996. Wondering what to bring to SPLASH? Everyone who comes will be carded so make sure you bring your Photo ID/ Driver’s License. You should also print out your SPLASH tickets or know where they are on your phone so they can be easily scanned when you arrive. If you purchased the 2 for $110 tickets, the 2 people using those tickets must be together when you arrive to scan in! It’s important to note that no one under
the age of 21 is allowed at SPLASH and parking is FREE at Woodcreek High School’s lot or in the lot across the street from the Aquatics Complex. At SPLASH you’ll have the opportunity to network with over 1,000 attendees and enjoy live music from the Steel Harmonics Drum Band and BRICKHOUSE, the evening’s featured 80’s cover band. Be sure to follow the Chamber’s social media accounts to stay up-to-date on SPLASH news. We can’t wait to see you September 14th at the Roseville Aquatics Complex!

UPDATE FROM THE IGNITE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AFTER “RE-IGNITING” IN LATE 2018, IGNITE IS NOW USING A MORE TAILORED APPROACH TO CONNECT AND GROW THE ROSEVILLE AREA’S YOUNG PROFESSIONALS. The Roseville Area Chamber’s Young Professionals began a process of “re-igniting” in the late months of 2018. They started 2019 off strong in February as they held their first Ignite Coffee Chat at FourScore Coffee House. This was a free opporuntiy for Roseville Area young professionals to network with other like-minded young professionals. In March, Ignite held The Bash! It was a fun night of casino games, music, dancing, food and drinks. HEROES Virtual Reality even had a booth and added to the great environment of supporting the best of Roseville. In April, they hosted an Ignite Offsite at Blue Line Arts where Justin Henry of Emerge Marketing Strategies presented on how to make your brand stand out. In June, the Ignite Young Professionals held an Ignite Offsite at Topgolf where they
learned about the benefits of teamwork and team-building activities for your business. They also had the chance to stick around and play a few rounds of golf! In July, Tytanium Ideas, Inc. in Rocklin hosted an Ignite Power Lunch where the Igniters brought their own lunch and heard from Tytanium Ideas CEO Tyler Campbell on how to start and successfully grow your own business. Most recently, in August, they had an Ignite Offsite where they toured the West Park model homes and learned about the process of development in the City of Roseville and the collaboration needed to create a great product. But that’s not all, coming in October is the Ignite Influence Panel. The panelists will include Brian Alexander (CEO, Sutter

Written by Wendy Gerig, CEO of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce As we have reached the mid-way point in 2019, I thought it would be good to recap everything that has happened with regards to the Chamber’s Advocacy efforts. In February, the Roseville City Council appointed Roseville Area Business Political Action Committee (RABPAC)endorsed Bruce Houdesheldt to serve as a new Councilmember. Also in Febraury, we celebrated Mayor John Allard, RABPAC-endorsed Councilmembers Pauline Roccucci and Bruce Houdesheldt and Vice Mayor Krista Bernasconi, as well as RABPAC-endorsed Placer County Supervisor Bonnie Gore. As many of you know, the Chamber endorsed Measure B which was on the November 2018 ballot. Measure B passed and the additional half-percent sales tax has gone into effect. Measure B funds have already gone to supporting maintenance costs for new citywide parks, adding more library hours, bringing back the goats to tend to open spaces in the City, and more. with other local chambers. Through UCAN our Chamber has its own lobbyist advocating at the State Legislature on behalf of your business. In November of last year, UCAN released a member survey and set their legislative prioities for the year based off your responses. If you have a specific concern that you would like addressed at the local or state level, please reach out to the Chamber and I would love to share
how the Chamber can support your business. To stay up-to-date with what’s happening in the region, the next Economic Development & Government Affairs Meeting will be a Joint Meeting with the Auburn, Rocklin, Loomis, and Lincoln Chambers.
