Q3 2023
CELEBRATING 85 YEARS OF FAMILY FUN

It’s hard to believe that the year is halfway over. Our mid-year review is quickly approaching and when I reviewed what we have accomplished in the last 6 months, it makes me very proud to serve on such an extraordinary chamber board. I want to take a moment to highlight 2 incredible programs.
The first program is Leadership Roseville. On June 15th, our 2023 class graduated. The enthusiasm, talent, and love for our community was evident in this class. I was honored to attend their celebration and share in their accomplishments. Applications are now open for our next class.
The Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) is a top priority for the chamber this year. We are focused on strengthening our local economy through workforce development, business attraction, and retention strategies. We need qualified and skilled workers to address the challenges businesses are facing. Phase 1 of the program is now complete, and I am pleased to announce that the healthcare collaborative will be moving ahead into phase 2 which is incredibly exciting.
The year is not over, and we have some exciting events scheduled over the next few months. Please join us for Splash on September 9, 2023 and for Placer Valley 2023 on October 6, 2023.

Bosch investing more than $1.5 billion in Roseville
The world is taking notice that Roseville is a highly sought-after location for innovative companies expanding their operations. We recently received global attention with the announcement that Bosch plans to acquire Roseville chipmaker TSI Semiconductors and grow its business.
Over the next few years, Bosch intends to invest more than $1.5 billion in the Roseville site and convert it into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Chip production is anticipated to start in 2026. The international boom of electromobility is generating significant demand for these semiconductors.
As mayor, I’m proud to see our recognition as a community of choice for investment. We work hard to create a city that fuels business growth, attracts a skilled and educated workforce, maintains a vibrant quality of life, and offers some of the nation’s most reliable and low-cost municipal utilities. I often hear from businesses that these qualities are critical when deciding where to locate and expand.
A 51-acre soccer complex recently broke ground at 2600 Westbrook Blvd. We’ll see the new facility draw regional and national sports tourism, boosting local economic activity and hotel stays. Plans for the complex include 10 lighted, artificial turf fields for soccer, football, rugby, field hockey and lacrosse, ample parking, a universally accessible playground, picnic areas, restrooms, and concessions. We’re scheduled to complete construction by early 2025.
The City of Roseville’s Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget is $784 million. In addition to supporting the extensive day-to-day operations of our full-service city, it also supports priorities determined by the City Council in its four-year strategic plan that can be seen at roseville.ca.us/strategicplan. Our General Fund operating budget is $214 million, while the remaining $570 million in funding is primarily dedicated to the electric, water, wastewater, and waste services utilities. The General Fund includes funding for public safety, parks, recreation, libraries, public works, information technology, and general government functions.
Here are some funding highlights:
•Opening of new Fire Station 8
•Bolster the Police Social Services Unit
•Initiate the design of three new neighborhood parks
•Invest in capital improvement projects
•Invest in asset rehabilitation and improvements, including Weber Park, Johnson Pool, the downtown Roseville water distribution system, the City’s Traffic Operations Center, and City facility security
•Support business growth, attract private investments, and deliver housing options
•Participate in regional efforts to identify strategies to address homelessness
•Pay down unfunded liabilities to improve the City’s financial condition
•Maintain economic stabilization and emergency funding goals
You can see the entire budget or read our Budget in Brief brochure document at roseville.ca.us/budget .

Developing and honing your organization’s brand voice is vital. Translated: it’s now accepted and expected that your professional communications have personality, clarity and align with your values. Here’s the even better news: a well-defined brand ensures your communication will actually be read and dare we say, enjoyed!
Here’s what an on-point brand voice offers:
Differentiation: It provides a competitive edge and sets you apart. Consistency: It guarantees your audience will have a cohesive experience, and it reinforces trust and loyalty, which we consider the winning formula. Results: It guides your team, creates culture, streamlines and enhances everything else you do. So, you’re probably wondering where to start. We recommend gaining clarity on your brand’s mission, goals and unique selling proposition, which comes from discussions within and outside of your organization.
That’ll help in the next step of creating your brand persona: Think of your brand as a person, with specific traits and values that align with your brand's identity. Is your brand friendly and approachable? Professional and authoritative? Quirky and fun? This will help guide the tone and style of your brand voice.
Our word of advice: Embrace the fun factor, because as we say at MarketSharePR, if there isn’t enjoyment sprinkled into everything we do, we’re not doing it right!
Kayla Scott Client Services Director, MarketSharePR MarketSharePR.com Kayla@marketsharepr.comThe Roseville Area Business PAC hosted its first fundraiser of the year on June 14th at the Chamber offices. The PAC had a successful night, raising over $5,000 which will be donated to pro-business local candidates. With the 2024 election being an important one, it's critical to support candidates in Roseville and Placer County that have the interest of the business community in mind. We would like to thank all of those who donated and supported the fundraiser!
In other advocacy news, UCAN, the United Chamber Advocacy Network, has selected Smith Policy Group as their new lobbyist in the California legislator. Mark Smith and his team have a combined 75 years of lobbying experience and have successfully represented clients from trade associations, for-profit and nonprofit companies, and large and small businesses. We are excited to work closely with Mark and the rest of Smith Policy Group for the betterment of our members and the business community.
As the California Legislator prepares to adjourn for summer recess in August, the Chamber is keeping a close eye on key pieces of legislation that affect the business community. We oppose SB 525 that would raise the minimum wage for health care workers to $25, putting a burden on our local hospitals. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic health care facilities are unable to take on these additional costs without the risk of reducing staff or passing costs to customers. The Chamber also supports bills that will benefit local businesses. Earlier this year, Assemblyman Joe Patterson introduced AB 1668, to authorize the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to issue no more than four new onsale general licenses in Placer County per year and also prohibits transferring new licenses out of the county or be sold at a price greater than the original fee, and the chamber has been a staunch supporter. This bill will reduce the wait times and astronomical costs for these licenses that businesses currently deals with. All legislative positions that the Chamber has taken can be found on the Chamber Positions page on our website.
Coming up on 65 years of business, two major steps that Bud's has prioritized is caring for our employees and adapting to different clothing trends. Also, a big takeaway in serving the Roseville community is to keep up with the growth. Actively meeting the new people of our community made me realize that they also want to give back to Roseville.
To other local businesses in Roseville, I would advise you to put yourself out there and to invest in your employees. By donating to organizations and showing up to the events, you are getting to know customers and giving back to your community. Train your employees to do the same. When you invest in your employees, they will want to be a part of the company and promote the company like it is their company.
I appreciate the people of Roseville and the ones who run the city. We need to continue promoting small business. Support your local community because your local community will support you.

What I like most about being an ambassador is the other ambassadors in the group! Besides the Chamber activities and getting to know the new Chamber members, being an ambassador has turned out to be one of the best networking groups I’ve been a part of. Doing business with people you know, like, and trust, is very easy in this group.
My favorite chamber event, easily, is SPLASH! The food and drink selection are amazing. You have the chance to try different things and find new favorites! Every SPLASH!, that I’ve gone to over the years, has been so much fun.

Join us for a preview of the event at our August 11 Coffee Chat, 8:00 a.m. Bonnie Gore, Chairwoman of FLAME, will be speaking with us about the organization and how you can create a mentor relationship.
We are also making service a top priority for IGNITE. We will be supporting the Roseville Police Activities League with their “Bacon and Brew Bash” in October, we’ll be alongside the Roseville Chamber team for the annual “Light the Night” walk in Sacramento in November, and we’ll be wrapping gifts in support of the Lost but Not Forgotten organization in December. I hope you and your family join us in serving our wonderful community.
I look forward to seeing you soon!

Summer 2023 in Placer County started with record-breaking attendance and perfect summer weather at the 85th Annual Placer County Fair @the Grounds in Roseville! With paid attendance up 69% from 2022, this event truly captivated the local community and surrounding areas. Fairgoers had no shortage of things to see and do at the Placer County Fair, with new events such as the NASCAR races, fireworks, epic concerts, & best of all, an improved fairgrounds layout.
This year, strategic changes transformed the fairgrounds, making the Roebbelen Center the vibrant hub of the Fair. The new 160,000 sq ft event venue allowed fairgoers to check out the commercial vendors, Family Fun Zone, Cornhole Tournament, and live entertainment, all inside the comfortable air-conditioned space. Additionally, bringing the carnival closer added to the Fair's improved layout.
Marketing efforts created a lot of excitement around the Fair, with attendee numbers soaring on Saturday and Sunday. This overwhelming response brought unforeseen challenges in parking and a sold-out Rib Cook-off. Our team swiftly addressed these hurdles, finding solutions to continue to create a positive experience for fairgoers.
This year's Fair still proved to be a success, showcasing a variety of entertainers and live music, unlike any other year. The Spazmatics, The Outlaw Mariachi, Wonder Bread 5, and Adam Aldama & the Aces rocked out at the Attaway Pavilion. In addition to the epic concerts, other fan favorites included the unique food and beverage options at the Fair. With more diverse options than any year prior, such as Ceviche from Ray's Miches & Shrimp and Woodfired Pizza from Benji's Woodfire Pizza, attendees enjoyed fair classics and explored new flavors.
Thank you to the community for making the 85th Placer County Fair the best and most remarkable Fair to date. The success of this year's Fair serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff, volunteers, and support from our local sponsors. Join us next year, from June 20-23, as we keep the momentum going and prepare for an even more unforgettable Placer County Fair!
The Sacramento County Department of Airports, which operates Sacramento International Airport (SMF), announced today SMForward, a $1.3 Billion expansion project that will reshape the Airport to accommodate projected passenger growth over the next seven years.
SMForward is embarking on a transformative journey, with the launch of six ambitious projects in 2024, including construction of a stunning $140 million pedestrian walkway. This state-of-the-art walkway will seamlessly connect Terminal B to Concourse B, empowering passengers with the flexibility to choose between a leisurely walk to their gate or utilizing the Airport's efficient train system.
Additional SMForward projects include expansions to both Terminal A and Concourse B, which will add gates and new amenities; a new Terminal B parking garage; and a consolidated ground transportation center that will centralize taxi, rideshare, and off-site shuttle providers into a single area that is walkable from both terminals. SMForward is expected to conclude in late 2027 with the completion of a new $400 million consolidated rental car facility, allowing passengers access to the Airport’s rental car providers without the need to ride a shuttle bus.
SMForward is a major milestone for Sacramento, representing the largest construction program in the Airport’s history. This ambitious project is not just an expansion, but a complete transformation of the airport experience for the people of Sacramento and its visitors. The project will bring about significant improvements and upgrades that will enhance the convenience, comfort, and accessibility of the airport for all.
“The airport experience is the first impression many people see when they arrive in Northern California – and the last as they leave,” said Cindy Nichol, Director of Sacramento County Department of Airports. “SMForward will change the airport's skyline, but it also sets the stage for the airport’s growth and our regions as a whole.”
SMFoward creates jobs and economic opportunities for local businesses and serves as a catalyst for further development in the region. The project will help Sacramento to be more competitive as a destination, attract more visitors and businesses, and ultimately contribute to the growth of the region.
SMForward comes as air travel demand in the Greater Sacramento region continues to exceed peer airports in the region after unprecedented impacts from the Covid-19 pandemic. 2022 saw SMF nearly return to prepandemic levels with six consecutive years of year-over-year record-breaking passenger growth through 2019. Forecasts show steady passenger growth averaging 4.3 percent annually through 2041, underscoring the need for expansion.
Additional information and business opportunities within SMForward can be found on the newly launched website at SMForward.com.
