ECONOMIC & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

City Council held the second annual update to its four-year strategic plan at a public workshop in February. When the plan was initially developed in 2019, we had no idea of the host of challenges ahead and the magnitude of change coming to our everyday lives. Yet, a testament to the strength of any good strategic plan is its ability to withstand the test of time and changing circumstances.

6PRIORITIES OF THE COUNCIL:

• Maintain a safe and healthy community • Remain fiscally responsible in a changing world • Enhance economic vitality • Invest in well-planned infrastructure and growth • Support community engagements and advocacy • Deliver exceptional City service

For each of the priorities, the Council also adopted key strategies on which to focus this year. You can find these strategies and more details at Roseville.ca.us/StrategicPlan where a status update is also posted of progress on priorities so far.

Economic Development Strategic Plan

Also at the Council workshop, our Economic Development Director Melissa Anguiano provided an update on the development of the City’s new Economic Development Strategic Plan. She emphasized that a successful plan takes advantage of the strengths of all City departments and services, the business community, and the community as a whole. Economic Development is the work of all of us. Roseville has a great story to tell and a high quality of life to back it up. Look for the updated plan later this summer.

Parks Recreation & Libraries (PRL) Ambassadors

I recently joined more than 60 volunteers from our community for a clean-up event at Olympus Park. It was incredible how quickly the work got done when our community came together to paint, clean, and pick up trash. If a park could sparkle, this one did when we were done. You may have missed this last clean-up event but there are so many opportunities to volunteer as part of the Roseville PRL Ambassador program. The intent is to promote community stewardship and improve communications between residents, neighborhoods, and PRL. New Council Districts

The concept of establishing an Independent Redistricting Commission was approved by Roseville voters in the November 2020 election. The Commission has exclusive authority to redraw and finalize council district boundaries. District boundaries are updated every 10 years following the results of the U.S. Census and are in effect for 10 years until the next redistricting effort. The Commission held more than a dozen public meetings and received hundreds of comments from the public before adopting the final district map on February 28. You can use an interactive map to find your City Council district at Roseville.ca.us/FindMyDistrict.

At the City Council Priorities Workshop, all five City Councilmembers reaffirmed the approach that although we are elected by district, each is committed to serving all of Roseville. So please feel free to reach out to any or all of us with your comments, questions, and concerns.
