Q2 2022

SAVE MONEY WITH ROSEVILLE ELECTRIC UTILITY

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

CHAMBER STAFF Chief Executive Officer Rana Ghadban

The inspiration that captivated me at the 2022 Installation continues to linger. Being amid a wonderful group of colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences, I was reminded that we share some things very much in common. We are bound by a common love for Roseville and an interest in its success as it grows. We wish to see the Roseville area advance as the best region in California to live, work and do business. Clearly illustrated at the dinner was that the RACC’s membership is comprised of a variety of sectors. The memberships of businesses large and small from healthcare to hospitality and from technology to tourism are all equally valued. Beyond chamber membership, it is the individual, their role, and their uniquely special contribution to Roseville that are most important and appreciated.

The evening was a celebration that included the presence of our elected officials, the honoring of award recipients and their achievements, listening to the vision of our new CEO Rana Ghadban, and the installation of the 2022 Board of Directors. It was the seriousness of the vow that remains profoundly personal. We promised to uphold “the welfare of our city as a whole, with special emphasis on providing assistance whenever possible to foster growth and prosperity to the business sector.” With this commitment, the Board and I, fueled by gratitude, will invest the best of our abilities to serve. It is with that gratitude and determination, I look forward to what 2022 has in store.

Olympus Park Clean-Up

MESSAGE FROM MAYOR KRISTA BERNASCONI

ECONOMIC & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

C

ity Council held the second annual update to its four-year strategic plan at a public workshop in February. When the plan was initially developed in 2019, we had no idea of the host of challenges ahead and the magnitude of change coming to our everyday lives. Yet, a testament to the strength of any good strategic plan is its ability to withstand the test of time and changing circumstances.

• • • • • •

PRIORITIES OF THE COUNCIL:

Maintain a safe and healthy community Remain fiscally responsible in a changing world Enhance economic vitality Invest in well-planned infrastructure and growth Support community engagements and advocacy Deliver exceptional City service

For each of the priorities, the Council also adopted key strategies on which to focus this year. You can find these strategies and more details at Roseville.ca.us/StrategicPlan where a status update is also posted of progress on priorities so far. Economic Development Strategic Plan Also at the Council workshop, our Economic Development Director Melissa Anguiano provided an update on the development of the City’s new Economic Development Strategic Plan. She emphasized that a successful plan takes advantage of the strengths of all City departments and services, the business community, and the community as a whole. Economic Development is the work of all of us. Roseville has a great story to tell and a high quality of life to back it up. Look for the updated plan later this summer. Parks Recreation & Libraries (PRL) Ambassadors I recently joined more than 60 volunteers from our community for a clean-up event at Olympus Park. It was incredible how quickly the work got done when our community came together to paint, clean, and pick up trash. If a park could sparkle, this one did when we were done. You may have missed this last clean-up event but there are so many opportunities to volunteer as part of the Roseville PRL Ambassador program. The intent is to promote community stewardship and improve communications between residents, neighborhoods, and PRL. To learn more about the PRL Ambassador program, visit Roseville.ca.us/ PRLambassador. New Council Districts The concept of establishing an Independent Redistricting Commission was approved by Roseville voters in the November 2020 election. The Commission has exclusive authority to redraw and finalize council district boundaries. District boundaries are updated every 10 years following the results of the U.S. Census and are in effect for 10 years until the next redistricting effort. The Commission held more than a dozen public meetings and received hundreds of comments from the public before adopting the final district map on February 28. You can use an interactive map to find your City Council district at Roseville.ca.us/FindMyDistrict. At the City Council Priorities Workshop, all five City Councilmembers reaffirmed the approach that although we are elected by district, each is committed to serving all of Roseville. So please feel free to reach out to any or all of us with your comments, questions, and concerns. Commerce Insight

ROSEVILLE ELECTRIC UTILITY

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

R

oseville Electric Utility has been providing reliable energy to the residents and businesses in Roseville for over 100 years!

“Our Roseville Energy Park provides Roseville with greater flexibility to meet demand and manage costs,” explains Shawn Matchim, Roseville Electric Utility Assistant Director. With gas prices on the rise, people are looking everywhere for ways to save money. One way to do this is through your electricity bill. “As we prepare for the warm summer months ahead, residents and businesses alike can reduce their energy usage with simple adjustments like bumping thermostats up at least two degrees and turning off unnecessary lighting,” says Erin Frye, Roseville Electric Utility Communications and Marketing Manager. Plus, as a community-owned utility you are already saving money. Roseville Electric rates are nearly 40% lower than our neighboring investor-owned utility rates. “Having all utility infrastructure—water, wastewater, recycled water, solid waste, and electricity—under one integrated utility service allows us to be more innovative and cost efficient because we can manage each utility service in-house and find synergies to promote innovation, sustainability and reliability,” says Matchim. To learn more, visit Roseville.ca.us or call 916-774-5300.

So far this year, they have continued to support the Kiwanis Family House at the UC Davis Children’s hospital, as well as fundraising for The Global Uplift Project, which is building a new school in Kirinyaga, Kenya! They also have some really great upcoming events, including a Golf Tournament on June 13th. “We invite anyone with a heart for service to consider joining us in our efforts to serve the children and communities of Roseville and Granite Bay,” says Noxon. INSTALLATION DINNER 2022

INSIDE THE CHAMBER

O

n January 25th, we gathered for a night of food, music, and awards as we celebrated the installation of our 2022 President, Darlene Cullivan, and our 2022 Board of Directors. During our 2022 Installation Dinner, we also honored some very special individuals in our community. First, we presented our Ambassador of the Year award to Matt Fogler. Matt was a new Ambassador last year who stepped up to assist the Chamber in recording all of our events to give members a virtual option, as well as fulfilling his regular ambassador duties. Next, we recognized our 2021 Volunteer of the Year. Linda Warn, Founder of Lost But Not Forgotten, works year round supporting local children, teens, and young adults who may be forgotten during the holiday season. This award could not have gone to a more humble and deserving individual. Scott Alvord was also named the 2021 Ryan Haney, Referral Partner of the Year. Because of his efforts during ChamberFest, 11 companies joined the Chamber in just 3 days!

President's Award Winners: Alex Brown, Jeff Richardson, Kim Silvers, Darlene Cullivan, Ryan O'Keefe, & Dominic Casey (Not Pictured)

This year, the 2021 President’s Award was presented to the Executive Search Committee which is comprised of 6 individuals. FEATURED AMBASSADOR

INSIDE THE CHAMBER

O

ur featured Ambassador is Matt Fogler of Fogler Professional Services. Matt was recently named our Ambassador of the Year at our 2022 Installation Dinner for his dedication for serving the Chamber. As a brand-new Ambassador, he stepped up during the pandemic by recording our events so that we could offer virtual options to our members. “I became an Ambassador for the Roseville Area Chamber because I was looking for opportunities to serve and being an Ambassador was a great way to do it. Now I get to be a part of the Chamber in a way that allows me to interact with all sorts of new people”, says Matt. Matt’s favorite Chamber event is our monthly Luncheon, which is a great way to meet new people and businesses in the Roseville area.

Matt Fogler Fogler Professional Services

“I love getting to interact with all the local businesses and I particularly like it when we get invited to the openings of new restaurants. Getting to see who is also choosing to do business in our great town is amazing and very interesting”, Matt continues. Thank you Matt, for you continued service and dedication to the Chamber!

GET READY FOR THE BASH 2022! Welcome back to the Ignite Corner! I’m so pleased at all the opportunities we’ve had so far to reconnect, network, and learn these last few months. In case you missed it, Ignite held its first ever Rise and Shine event in March where we took the opportunity to just connect. We had a great group of young and young at heart professionals (pictured) turn out and we’re looking forward to seeing this group grow throughout the year. We are excited to announce that our annual event, The Bash is back! For those unfamiliar, The Bash is Ignite’s annual party that lets us gather, mingle, laugh, have fun, and support our local businesses while we do it. This year we’re excited to be one of the first events happening on the new Downtown Pedestrian bridge between Downtown Roseville and Royer Park. We hope to see everyone there May 12th! Make sure to grab your ticket by visiting the Chamber website. We have so much more in the works that we’re very excited about, such as our involvement in this year’s Placer Valley 2022. In addition, we’re adding members to our Leadership Council as we look to add new initiatives and events to our roster. If you or anyone you know is interested in being a part of our incredible team, be sure to reach out to events@rosevilleareachamber.com. See you soon! -Elyjah Wilbur, Chair Commerce Insight
