PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We’ve got many stokes in the fire for this upcoming year. Our event planners are already gearing up for the Chamber’s signature events such as SPLASH! and Placer Valley 2024. Our Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) program, which has received significant interest from several communities in NorCal, continues to gain steam in developing a local workforce to meet our employers’ needs. And business-friendly advocacy continues at a record pace, with our Chamber’s leadership strengthening our position in the region to influence legislation that affects our business owners. Our Chamber is here to serve you. If we can augment our services to enhance your operations, we’d love to hear from you because we’re currently updating the Strategic Plan that will guide the Chamber’s actions for the next several years. Our success is greatest when we’re all actively involved, serving one another, advocating for a business-friendly environment, and developing a talented local workforce. Cheers to you and the year ahead!

MANUFACTURING INNOVATION IN ROSEVILLE

ECONOMIC & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

F

rom computer technology to medical devices, manufacturing plays an important role in the health of Roseville’s economy. Over the last year, Roseville’s manufacturing industry grew by 17.9% to approximately 2,900 jobs.

Because the manufacturing industry has the highest multiplier effect of any economic sector, it’s beneficial for driving economic growth. That means for every $1 spent on manufacturing, another $2.69 is added to the economy (National Association of Manufacturers). Powering the future of mobility Bosch is a recent example of Roseville’s expanding manufacturing sector. The company’s move toward acquiring and investing $1.5 billion in the former TSI Semiconductor site is anticipated to spur growth in related businesses and suppliers. Locally manufactured silicon carbide chips are critical for the expanding electric vehicle market, providing significant improvements in efficiency, range, and battery size. The worldwide market for silicon carbide devices is estimated to climb from $2 billion to $14 billion in value by 2030. Roseville is Bosch’s first chip manufacturing location outside of Germany, joining plants in Dresden and Reutlingen. The first chips are estimated to be ready by 2026. Following the most significant semiconductor deal in 30 years, manufacturing and technology investments from additional companies will further elevate Roseville as one of the best places to do business in California. Roseville’s advantage Our area has the advantage of access to a skilled talent pool and quality higher education. Our strong network of education and training partners play an important role in the workforce pipeline by meeting labor market demands and quickly responding to an evolving manufacturing industry. Recent data from the Greater Sacramento Economic Council reveals that the region is known for having a welcoming and collaborative business climate. These are key differentiators for companies seeking a location that fosters growth and innovation. Additionally, reliable and affordable City of Roseville utilities are a major benefit to businesses operating in our community. This predictability continues to be a major reason for companies to locate and stay in Roseville. Growth in key industries and emerging sectors stimulates economic growth by creating jobs, increasing production, and generating income. This type of growth is critical to maintaining a prosperous economy. BIZ CORNER

When small businesses seek marketing it can be hard to know who to trust and which path to follow. The SEO guru will of course suggest SEO is the solution. A direct-mail advertising company will suggest their strategy is best and the digital marketer, well of course will sell their service. None of them are wrong per se, but how do you know if they are right for you?

Before Hiring a Marketing Company It's important that you have clarity of your business goals and a dedicated budget before hiring marketing help or you risk spending more than you can afford or choosing a tactic that doesn’t give you the results you want. Some companies will make promises that sound so easy and enticing, e.g. “thousands of leads,” or “get to the top of the Google search.” When it sounds too good to be true, ask yourself, do you have a process and people in place to convert these leads (i.e. does it make sense for you)? Also examine, what are their tactics and do they align with your values? Before making a commitment, talk to multiple companies and use these questions as a guide. - What is your experience with businesses similar to mine? (Hopefully they have some) - What kind of research will you do about my business? (They should take the time to get to know you and your company to best reflect your business) - Can you design my [brochure, website, etc.] or run my ads within my budget? (Be sure they are upfront about pricing) - Do you work in-house or outsource your projects? (There isn’t a wrong answer to this, but you want to be sure you are receiving professional, quality products in a timely fashion) If you’d like to learn more about marketing before hiring a professional or doing it for yourself, consider reading Marketing Basics for Your Small Business by Jen Esparza to get a foundational understanding of how to determine what is right for your specific business and goals.

PUBLIC POLICY UPDATES

ECONOMIC & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

W

e kicked the election year off with a Candidate Forum for the Placer County Board of Supervisor Districts of 3 & 4. Hosted in conjunction with the Rocklin and Lincoln Chambers, all candidates from these districts joined to speak about why they are running for their perspective seat and policies affecting the business community. This event was a great way for the business community to get to know the candidates that would like to represent them on the Placer County Board of Supervisors. We look forward to seeing more of these candidates as the election draws closer. Recently we joined the CalChamber’s coalition to fix California’s Private Attorney Generals Act (PAGA). Enacted in 2004, PAGA was intended to be a more effective way to solve labor disputes but has proven to be ineffectual and ultimately harmed business. PAGA cases take nearly two years on average, which is twice as long than cases decided by the Labor and Workforce Development Agency. These cases can be brought over a small infraction, such as a typo or incorrect spelling on a pay stub, which harms family run businesses, non-profits, and thousands of other employers. PAGA cases also end up not helping employees as well as, on average, plaintiff’s lawyers receive 33% or more of the total recovery, leaving very little for workers. Along with chambers from across California, we are calling on the State Legislature to expand on Labor and Workforce Development Agency processes, which are proven to resolve employee claims faster and provide workers with more restitution. This year we will also be working closely with UCAN, the United Chambers Advocacy Network, and our lobbyist to advocate for pro-business policies at the state level. As bills are introduced in the State Legislature, we are on watch for bills that support workforce development, advancing local infrastructure, and public safety. You can see a full list of bills we are tracking this year at RosevilleChamber.com. -Marlo Bourland, Public Policy Coodinator

25 YEARS OF LOVING & SUPPORTING CHILDREN WITH CANCER

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

O

n March 12,1998, Keaton Raphael Memorial was incorporated in honor of 5-year-old Keaton who gained his Angel Wings after a courageous nine-month battle against Neuroblastoma. During a time of grief, Keaton’s loving parents were determined to provide hope and strength to other families who would hear the four devastating words, “Your child has cancer.” Keaton’s legacy lives on by serving thousands of children and their families who have been impacted by pediatric cancer in our region. Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance is honoring 25 years of providing financial, emotional, and educational support to children with cancer and their families throughout Northern California. Thank you to the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce and our community for supporting our mission these past 25 years and beyond. Until childhood cancer is conquered, our hearts of servitude are committed to young warriors and their loved ones, ensuring that NO FAMILY FIGHTS CANCER ALONE. -Jessica Alonso, Executive Director of Keaton's Child Cancer Alliance

REMEMBERING KELLI'S COOKIES

F

or over 25 years, Kelli Ridenour served her signature treats at Kelli’s Cookies and quickly became a staple in the Roseville community. Kelli was more than a business owner; she was a cherished member of our community, leaving a lasting mark with her warm smile, generosity, and delectable cookies.

Kelli's Cookies wasn't just a bakery, in 2017 it became a non-profit with a focus on mentoring and employing foster and at-risk youth in the Placer and Sacramento regions. She was also a huge supporter of many non-profits, including the Roseville Chamber and Lost But Not Forgotten. Kelli’s lasting legacy will be forever remembered by her family, friends, and those she touched in the community with her sweet treats and even sweeter heart.

CONGRATS TO OUR AWARD WINNERS!

INSIDE THE CHAMBER

O

n January 18th, we gathered for a night of community celebrations and entertainment at our 2024 Installation Dinner. During the cocktail hour, guests enjoyed craft cocktails at our Speakeasy, sponsored by Randy Peters Catering, while being dazzled by the musical talent of Lisa Marie Ellis.

We also hosted a silent auction to benefit the Placer Workforce Development Foundation, the newly launched 501(c)3 arm of the Chamber. The Foundation mission is, through strategic collaborations and innovative programs, to create a robust workforce and thriving economic ecosystem where individuals have access to meaningful opportunities and employers have access to a diverse and skilled talent pipeline. A huge thank you to Lush Balloons and A & A Music Events for transforming the space into an incredible display of balloon artistry! Your added touch helped set the tone of the event! After enjoying dinner and delicious Nothing Bundt Cakes, sponsored by CAPTRUST, we began the award ceremony. Congratulations to this year's honorees who are true pillars in our community:

During the evening, we also celebrated the many accolades our City has received, ranking us among the top cities for Safest City in CA, Best Places to live, raise a family, and retire, all of which could not be possible without the strong Leadership of our local elected officials and our City staff. Their unwavering commitment to providing exceptional service to the entire community, both residents & businesses. Unlike many communities across our State, the City of Roseville always ensures a seat at the table for our business community. That is exactly why we have also been ranked among the top cities for job growth in the United States by the Milken Institute, highlighting our strong economy and our employment opportunities. Very much in alignment with our City efforts, our Chamber’s vision is to advance the Roseville Area to be the best region in California to live, work, and do business. FEATURED AMBASSADOR

INSIDE THE CHAMBER

I

became an Ambassador to meet new members, and to give back to the Chamber. When I was a new member, so many members and Ambassadors reached out to me to help me navigate all that the Chamber has to offer. It was like walking into a room full of old friends. Everyone made me feel welcome. My goal is to help a new member feel that way too. What I like most about being an Ambassador is the people I get to meet. We are all business professionals, but I love that we want each other to succeed. Being an Ambassador is such a positive experience. There are SO many Chamber events I love to attend! My top choice would be the Chamber Breakfast. It's a great opportunity to find referral partners, find out what other members do, and tell everyone a little bit about yourself. Not to mention the food is always amazing.

Ignite helped me connect closer to the Roseville Chamber and to be more involved with the Roseville community.
