PRESIDENT MESSAGE

Dear Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce Members,

As we start a new year for the Chamber, I wanted to take a moment to let our Board, Ambassadors, Members, and the larger business community know how grateful I am to be serving as the President of the Board for the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Welcome to our new and returning Board members. Thank you for your dedication to our community and its businesses, and I look forward to working with you this year and in the future. To our CEO, thank you for your leadership and stellar performance in your first year here in Roseville. I look forward to seeing the Chamber membership and imprint on the community expand this year.

The Roseville area has always had a vibrant and inclusive business community, and I want to make sure that we continue to provide dynamic support to our current members and invite new members to the table. TABLE OF CONTENTS

Nearly two miles of floodwalls and levees can be found along Cirby and Linda Creeks. This vital public safety infrastructure helps protect neighborhoods during significant storms.

A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

Over the last month, Roseville has been deluged with one storm after another putting a sizeable dent into our long drought. Through it all, Roseville’s dedicated employees rose to the challenge -helping businesses and the community recover from wind damage, and preventing greater property damage from precariously unstable trees. Thanks to the $32 million we’ve invested in flood control infrastructure, our creeks handled the heavy rain and runoff as they were designed, keeping structures in Roseville from flooding.

Roseville is one of only two cities in the country with FEMA’s highest flood control rating. I know we say that a lot, but it is something to be proud of and has the tangible impact of lowering your flood insurance premiums up to 45 percent. We owe a debt of gratitude to the City Councils, who after the 1986 floods, saw the need to prevent this widespread impact from happening again.

Working in the water industry for many years, it thrills me that during the heavy rain, Roseville was able to take 60 million gallons from Folsom Lake that otherwise would have been released downstream and instead pumped it back into the underground aquifer for our use during drier times. And we hope to pump in more as the rainy season continues.

Roseville continues to rank highly on national lists for things such as being one of best places to live, one of the safest communities, and one of the best places to raise a family.

The accolades keep coming. We were recently ranked as one of the happiest cities and as one of the top economic growth cities in the U.S.

I believe that’s because Roseville takes a thoughtful approach to planning for our growth. A comprehensive look at land use accounts for the city’s needs and plans for the right balance of residential, commercial, office, and industrial land. We also examine parks, open space, and other municipal operations like utilities, traffic, and public safety. This thoughtful planning ensures economic health and that future city services are available as the population grows.

As always, I encourage you to participate in our community. I believe Roseville ranks so highly on national lists because we have a community that cares and stays involved in the things that are important to improving our city. I, and my fellow City Councilmembers, are always available to hear your concerns and ideas. Roseville is a lovely city to live in.

TALENT PIPELINE MANAGEMENT

ECONOMIC & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

On December 15th, the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce (RACC) hosted a kickoff reception for the Talent Pipeline Management® initiative, a new program offered by the RACC in support of our local economy through workforce development.

What is Talent Pipeline Management® (TPM)?

Launched in 2015 by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, TPM is a demand driven, employer led approach that builds talent supply chains. TPM provides a structured process for collective data analysis, decision making and action to align education to careers. Roseville’s 2023 TPM is focused on tackling the skills gap for current and future employees in the health care, manufacturing, construction & utilities, hospitality, and technology industries.

How can an organization participate in TPM?

A maximum of 30 business and community leaders will be accepted to participate. Facilitated by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the TPM Academy provides a customizable framework to create solutions that address the challenges employers face in building high-performing talent pipelines. The Academy runs March – June 2023 and following it, leaders will implement solutions and evaluate their progress. Program applications are due by January 31st.

BIZ CORNER

There are several big changes to employment law that went into effect on January 1st:

Pay Transparency

Employers with 15 or more employees are required to (1) disclose the pay scale in job postings; and (2) provide employees the pay scale for the position that they are currently holding upon request.

Designated Person

The California Family Rights Act and Paid Sick Leave have been expanded to allow employees to take protected time off to care for a “designated person.”

Bereavement Leave

Employers with 5 or more employees must provide employees who have been employed at least 30 days with 5 days of bereavement leave for the death of a “family member.”

Reproductive Health Decision-Making

It is now an unlawful employment practice to discriminate against an applicant or employee based on “reproductive health decision-making.”

Renaming of DFEH

The Department of Fair Employment and Housing has been renamed to the Civil Rights Department. The posters that employers are required to post have been updated to include the new name.

I will be expanding on these updates and discussing others not included here at the Chamber Luncheon on February 14th. I hope to see you there!

ROSEVILLE ELECTRIC UTILITY

As a public power utility, Roseville Electric Utility’s first priority is the customer. They remain focused on providing this community with highly reliable electricity, competitive rates and dependable service. Even with recent price increases, they remain the lowest rates in the region, and some of the lowest in the state.

In addition to making sure their customers have the safest and most reliable electric service, their team is focused on investing in our energy future. This includes comprehensive Integrated Resource Planning (IRP). This is the process that utilities use to determine a long-term plan to ensure generation resources are adequate to meet projected future peak capacity and energy needs, while achieving other utility goals such as maintaining an adequate reserve margin for system reliability. This takes place every five years. They started outreach on the IRP this past summer with a workshop and the launch of a community survey to get input from customers and the community. Roseville Electric is now putting together the plan so they can take them to city council in the first half of 2023.

FEATURED AMBASSADOR

Ijoined the Roseville Chamber back in 2018 originally to meet other business owners and non-profits in the area. Over the years, the Roseville Chamber has improved my business in so many amazing ways, I became an ambassador to let other business owners know how the Roseville Chamber can also help them! If you are a business owner in Roseville, being a Roseville Chamber member is a must!

So many things I love about the Chamber, it's hard to pick one! I would say the thing I like most is the surrounding and support from other like-minded business owners in Roseville. Being a business is tough and can feel really lonely at times. It's so good to have other top achieving business owners to bounce ideas off of or help with business decisions. A lot of the other chamber members have become my best friends! So much easier with others around. No one succeeds alone! Love my Roseville Chamber family!

My favorite chamber event has to be Splash! I'm sure it's most chamber member's favorite event because it's usually a large turn out. The event is the perfect blend of some of the top local restaurants, music, wine/ breweries, local professionals and community members/leaders. Every year is so much fun! It's a very unique event that I don't see anywhere else! Definitely something I look forward to every year!

HELLO YOUNG PROFESSIONALS!

We have a fantastic group of young professionals in our community and I’m honored to have been selected by my peers to lead IGNITE for 2023.

The goal of IGNITE is to enhance the personal and professional quality of life for the next generation of leaders in South Placer County. We connect and collaborate with the community through social, educational, and service opportunities to strengthen the skills, network, and civic engagement of young professionals and innovative entrepreneurs.

Join us for our frist Coffee Chat on Febraur 10th at the Roseville Venture Lab at 8am. Also, save the date for our annual “BASH” on May 5, 2023!

CHAMBER DAY OF SERVICE - PLACER SPCA

In December, the Chamber Staff came together to help out at the Placer SPCA. Our team spent the day mopping floors, moving tables, and cleaning counters to help the Placer SPCA get their space ready to host an event.

We also couldn’t resist saying hello to some of the furry residents. A few days later, two of our staff ended up adopting!

The Placer SPCA’s mission is “to enhance the lives of companion animals and support the humananimal bond.” They do this by finding adoptable animals homes, reuniting lost animals with their owners, supplying access to spay and neuter services, and treating every animal with kindness and respect.

Placer SPCA is always looking for volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering, visit PlacerSPCA.org
