DENIO'S CELEBRATES 75 YEARS!

CEO MESSAGE As the new CEO of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce, I would like to introduce myself, and to personally thank you for your support of our 5-star accredited Chamber. Your continued support plays an important role in the sustainability and growth of our great community! I assumed leadership of the Roseville Area Chamber upon the retirement of outgoing CEO, Wendy Gerig, who concluded her leadership tenure in November after 28 years of outstanding service. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work alongside her over the past few weeks and get to know the incredible leader she is. I am very impressed with the role our Chamber has played in the community under her leadership. I will make every effort to seamlessly continue the Chamber‘s tradition of excellence, including my aims of growing the Chamber and its positive impact on Roseville, to even greater heights! I would also like to wish Denio’s Roseville Farmers Market & Swap Meet a happy 75th anniversary! Sincerely,

2021 UCAN REPORT

ECONOMIC & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

U

CAN - the United Chamber Advocacy Network, a coalition of seven chamber of commerce organizations in the Sacramento Region, has released its 2021 Year-End Report. The report includes detail on the 22 bills UCAN took positions on in 2021, outlines UCAN’s efforts to oppose the extension of enhanced COVID benefits, and provides a scorecard showing how individual legislators voted on UCAN positions. UCAN’s most significant achievement in 2021 was leading a coalition calling on Governor Newsom and EDD to address the adverse impacts of extended state and federal benefits on the job market. A week after submitting a coalition letter to the Governor’s Office, EDD reestablished a job search requirement for job seekers that was suspended at the beginning of COVID.

63%

SUCCESS RATE

BILLS INTRODUCED

Of the 22 bills UCAN actively engaged on, UCAN had a success rate of 63% with 11 UCAN Opposed bills failing passage and three UCAN Support bills signed into law. Only three UCAN Opposed bills were signed into law and five UCAN Support bills failed passage. Of the bills UCAN actively engaged on, five UCAN legislators voted 100% with UCAN positions.

Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce Board Member, Lisa Peters, of Randy Peters Catering & Event Center, spoke at a special hearing hosted by the Select Committee at the State Capitol on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, chaired by Assemblymember Cottie Petri-Norris. Peters told lawmakers that "none of these special programs designed to assist small business will have any impact if we can't hire people to serve our customers. The combined federal and state benefits that are intended to help individuals during the initial impacts of COVID - extra unemployment, rent relief, utility relief, etc., are encouraging our workforce to accept public benefits rather than to accept the open positions we currently have." CELEBRATING A LEGACY

INSIDE THE CHAMBER

N

ovember was a month full of goodbyes, celebrations, and surprises for Wendy Gerig, former CEO of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce, as she celebrated retirement after serving the Chamber for 28 years.

In her nearly three decades at the Chamber, Wendy made quite the splash (literally), by introducing Roseville’s biggest party of the year: SPLASH, which quickly became the Chamber’s most popular and successful event and has been an annual staple ever since. Wendy also led the Chamber in acquiring and maintaining Five-Star Accreditation four times, an honor less than one percent of chambers nationwide have received. The Roseville Area Chamber is the only chamber in Northern California to have this accreditation. Additionally, Wendy also started the Leadership Roseville program. This program aims to educate and develop community leaders. This highly successful program has led to 40% of Roseville’s current board members and commissions being held by Leadership Roseville graduates. Wendy Gerig has left behind a legacy at the Chamber and the City of Roseville that will not be forgotten. Her advocacy and interest in every business, big or small, has laid firm foundations that will continue to make the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce and all of its members successful for years to come. Cheers to a happy retirement, Wendy!

FEATURED AMBASSADOR

INSIDE THE CHAMBER

O

ur featured Ambassador is Cheryl Cobbin of Cheryl Cobbin Business Solutions. If you’ve attended a Chamber event; it's likely that you have seen Cheryl. She has been one of our most dedicated Ambassadors for 5

years.

Cheryl said she “chose to become an Ambassador of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce as a way to serve our business community by understanding the needs of our fellow members and helping them to grow their businesses”. Cheryl Cobbin (Cheryl Outside of her regular Ambassador duties, she also volunteered her time to Cobbin Business participate on the Lime Green Team in Chamberfest last October. During the Solutions) three-day event, she helped the community gain greater awareness of what the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce does and promoted membership.

Cheryl says that her favorite Chamber event to attend is SPLASH! “As our biggest social event, it is an opportunity to sample the best of Roseville and mingle with fellow members and residents in a fun and friendly setting”, Cheryl said. Thank you, Cheryl, for all that you do!

IGNITING YOUR SPARK IN 2022 As we begin planning for 2022, I think it’s prudent that we take this moment to fold in our rearview mirrors, sweep up any trails that we left behind, and set our trajectory to “forward”. Between all the yearend celebrations, TV specials, and social media posts, I think we’ve had enough reflection for the year, don’t you? But before we completely put 2021 behind us, it would be negligent of me to not recognize some 2021 rock stars. I want to take this opportunity to thank my predecessor, Sarah Gallivan, for her time and dedication to not just one year as Chair of Ignite, but TWO years. I also want to thank our returning LC members who have opted to continue this incredible journey. Ignite is nothing without the innovation and creativity that our Leadership Council brings to the table. Looking forward, I’m very grateful to get to work with our new Chamber CEO in 2022. Rana brings an abundance of enthusiasm and excitement for our Young Professional Network. You can expect to see more of our favorite coffee chat events and even the return of some pre-pandemic events that we’ve all missed these last two years. We are also excited to embark on some more philanthropic ventures with Ignite to engage our local non-profits. On behalf of the Ignite Leadership Council, I want to extend one last “thank you” to our Chamber Board, members, and anyone reading this. It’s with your support, interest, and enthusiasm that we’re able to bring such a great network to Roseville. Cheers to 2022! -Elyjah Wilbur, Chair Commerce Insight

Doing Good in the Neighborhood

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS

S

o many of our local non-profits did some amazing things this past holiday season, but one in particular is The Alliance. In December they donated 2,000 gifts to foster kids, over $8,000 in gift cards, plus holiday meals, Christmas trees, and more!

“The Alliance is a network of over 50 local agencies, nonprofits and community service organizations around the Greater Sacramento Area working together to protect kids and strengthen families. Their mission is for all kids to grow up in safe, loving families and they are accomplishing this by UNITING local organizations, CONNECTING families with resources, EQUIPPING people to care for kids and teens in trauma-informed ways and MOBILIZING the community to get involved”, says Founder and Executive Director, Tiffany Loeffler. While the holiday season is when non-profits get the most spotlight, The Alliance works hard year-round to help children and families in need. “On February 3, we'll be hosting our 5th annual Alliance Member appreciation event, A Night to Celebrate, where local agency and nonprofit leaders serving vulnerable kids and families in our community will be recognized for the amazing work they do and have the opportunity to network with each other increasing area-wide collaboration”. They will also be offering a 9-week trauma-informed parenting class in February/March, as well as 2022 Partners in Purpose events. To learn more, visit defendingthecause.org
