It has been a whirlwind of a first quarter with the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce. We continue to have excellent attendance and participation for our events and activities this year. I would really encourage all of you to get out there and share your experience with the five-star Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce with your peers, business associates and colleagues whom of which are not yet members. The beginning of 2019 has not been without its challenges. I would like to take a moment to honor one of our Board Members Ryan Haney whom we tragically lost in March. Ryan joined the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in 2018. Prior to being a board member, Ryan held not just one, but three memberships with the Chamber and has been a member since 1980. Ryan truly had a passion for the Chamber and his community through his involvement as a Chamber Ambassador. Those of us who knew him would say he was a passionate, kindhearted and motivated individual. His competitive nature and drive to be successful along with his commitment to making the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce the best organization possible, earned him the Referral Partner of the Year Award five years in a row!

Ryan will be deeply missed in our organization and our community. We will honor Ryan by naming our annual Referral Partner of the Year Award the Ryan Haney Referral Partner of the Year Award going forward. I would like to mention that the Haney family has established a scholarship fund in Ryan’s name. New this year, we will be hearing the State of the County from Todd Leopold, Placer County Executive Officer. Best of all we have a dynamic keynote speaker, an authentic American hero, Retired First Sergeant Matt Eversmann. His experience immortalized in the film, Black Hawk Down, powerfully demonstrates the horrors of war and the human qualities that are essential to survive it! He will be speaking on Dedication, Pride & Commitment: Leadership Lessons from Black Hawk Down For Business & For Life. He is inspiring, motivational, patriotic, and he always has an emotional impact on his audience. I personally cannot wait to hear him speak. The Roseville Area Business Political Action Committee has unanimously endorsed Assemblyman Brian Dahle for California State Senate in the June special election to fill a vacancy created by former Sen. Ted Gaines’s election to the State Board of Equalization. Assemblyman Dahle currently represents Assembly District 1, which extends from eastern Placer County to the Oregon border, including nine counties. “Brian Dahle brings extensive knowledge and experience
in business and government to represent Senate District 1 in Sacramento,” said Jeff Ronten, Chairman of the Roseville Business PAC. “Working along with our current Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, we believe these two leaders together bring excellent skills to best represent our members and our area.” The PAC is an independent but affiliated entity of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce. Senate District 1 includes 11 counties from El Dorado County to the Oregon border, including
most of Placer County. A third-generation farmer operating his own small business, Assemblyman Dahle has served in the Assembly for more than six years and previously served 16 years as a County Supervisor. He served from 2017 to 2018 as the Assembly Republican Leader and is a past chairman of the Rural County Representatives of California. Brian and his wife, Megan, live in the rural community of Bieber and have three children - Chase, Reagan, and Roslyn.

CITY UPDATES Roseville Remains a Magnet for Business, Education, and Housing Dominick Casey Roseville City Manager
Roseville helps power the Capital region’s economy. We’re among the lowest cost places to do business in California, best communities for women entrepreneurs, top places in the US and Canada for technology-related backoffice solutions. It takes a city working in close partnership with its chamber and community to make this happen.
HEALTHY OUTLOOK FOR HEALTHCARE In the healthcare sector, Kaiser Permanente is constructing a five-story medical office building, laboratory, pharmacy, and parking garage at its Riverside Avenue campus. Sutter Roseville Medical Center is building critical care units and significantly expanding its emergency department. Adventist Health, which has been headquartered in Roseville for many years, is building a new corporate headquarters off Eureka Road. McKesson established a regional pharmaceutical and medical supply distribution facility in Roseville, bringing 175 employees. Penumbra, which manufactures medical devices for stroke victims, announced last fall that it will locate in a building formerly owned by Hewlett Packard on Foothills Boulevard, bringing 250 jobs to Roseville. 4

SHOPPING AND LEISURE ABOUND Villa Sport Athletic Club is entering the fitness market with a fitness facility near the Galleria that’s expected to open this summer. The home furnishing store Living Spaces will make its regional entrance in Roseville near Top Golf, where the Home2 Suites and Residence Inn hotels are under construction. At the Westfield Galleria, redevelopment of Sears will bring a 14-screen theater with an entertainment facility featuring bowling, darts, pool, and a restaurant, as well as other lifestyle additions.
HOUSING REMAINS A FOCUS Single-family residential development remains strong as Roseville continues to be a community of choice in the region. Affordable housing developments in the works ensure housing options for all members of the community including seniors, persons with disabilities and entry-level and service sector workforce. Since 1989, the city’s affordable housing policies have produced 2,679 affordable units, with new ones this year: • Mercy Housing recently opened its 58-unit Lohse Apartments on Main
Street, which includes ground-floor retail space. • Construction of Main Street Plaza Apartments on the corner of Washington and Main, is set to begin this spring, bringing 65 affordable units and 3,000 more square feet of commercial space to the historic district. • Junction Crossing will bring 80 affordable units to Pacific Street. Its developer St. Anton Communities, is expected to break ground this year when it receives additional financing.
CHANGING ECONOMY IMPACTS CITY FINANCES While the economy is doing well, city revenues are slowing due changing consumer habits, at the same time costs are rising due to regulations, construction, and labor costs. The shift from product-based (taxed) to servicebased (not-taxed) purchases reduces city revenue; as does the shift from inperson to online shopping. Voters’ approval last November of a halfcent sales tax increase takes effect April 1, and revenues will be received after July 1. This will allow the City to maintain current service levels for several years, stabilize the General Fund budget, and start limited new initiatives beginning in the FY2019-20 budget.

MEET OUR ROSEVILLE 2019 KEYNOTE SPEAKER, MATT EVERSMANN RETIRED FIRST SERGEANT MATT EVERSMANN IS THE HERO OF THE EPIC FILM, BLACK HAWK DOWN, AND THE BATTLE OF MOGADISHU. HE WILL BE SHARING AT ROSEVILLE 2019 ON HOW TO PREPARE EVERYDAY PEOPLE TO TACKLE INCREDIBLE THINGS. Retired First Sergeant Matt Eversmann, portrayed by actor Josh Hartnett in the Oscar-winning film Black Hawk Down, will command the stage as the celebrity keynote speaker of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce’s premiere business event, Roseville 2019. Eversmann will share how he applied his experience in leadership, perseverance and survival to business success during the event hosted at the recently renovated @the Grounds on Wednesday, May 22. “Matt provides an insight into excelling in business in a way we haven’t heard before,” said Roseville Area Chamber CEO Wendy Gerig. “Roseville 2019 is designed to be an essential resource to our regional business community and Matt’s message will offer vital takeaways to truly help move the needle in our personal and professional life.” Additional speakers include Roseville City Manager Dominick Casey and Placer County CEO Todd Leopold, who will each offer insights into the current market, forecasting projections and other fundamental updates intended to be leveraged by attendees. “This collaboration allows us to impart the latest intel on hotspots, topics and data that impacts the way our local economy continues to grow,” said Casey.
