INSTALLATION In January we had our annual Installation Dinner and I wanted to say thank you to everyone who made this event so fantastic! A lot of hard work, energy, and attention to detail goes into this event down to the napkins, it did not go unnoticed. It was pretty special for my guests to be able to witness firsthand what the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce has built over the years to culminate in such an impressive display of community through attendance and participation. I’m happy to report that our 2019 Installation dinner was a sold out event with a record crowd size, what a fun night!
CITY COUNCIL MEETING I had the privilege of attending the Roseville City Council meeting on February 6th. At
this meeting, the City Council appointed a new Member to fill the vacancy of Bonnie Gore, who was sworn-in as the Placer County Supervisor for District 1. I want to send my sincerest congratulations to Bruce Houdesheldt on being appointed to the Roseville City Council. Bruce has been serving our community for a number of years in different capacities and his service on both the Roseville Public Utilities Commission and the Roseville Planning Commission made him a front runner for this appointment. The City Council also elected a new Mayor and I would like to congratulate longtime Chamber Member, John Allard, as the new Mayor of Roseville! John is an experienced community leader and has served three terms on Roseville’s City Council. His regional connections and local passion will serve Roseville well.

Cordova) and Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin), which called for a statewide economic development strategy. The bill received near unanimous support in both houses of the Legislature but was ultimately vetoed by Governor Brown.
WHAT IS UCAN? In 2017, the Roseville Area Chamber partnered with four other local Chambers of Commerce in the greater Sacramento area to form UCAN. UCAN (or United Chamber Advocacy Network) is comprised of the Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, El Dorado County, and Roseville Chambers.
IN 2018 In 2018, UCAN chamber organizations were pleased to work with a bi-partisan group of legislators on proposals consistent with our members’ priorities. UCAN supported a proposal by Assemblyman Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove) for a $23 million budget allocation for small business assistance. UCAN led a statewide business coalition in support of AB 2596, a bill co-authored by Assemblymembers Ken Cooley (D-Rancho
UCAN also supported several bills by Shannon Quirk-Silva (D-Anaheim), chair of the Assembly Jobs and Economic Development Committee, which provided support for California’s small businesses.
TOP CONCERNS FROM OUR MEMBERS Last year, we asked you to fill out a survey to help us identify your top state-level concerns so UCAN can take positions on state legislation and advance those positions before our state legislative delegation and policy committees. The survey found that for all of the UCAN Chamber Members, their top concerns were: taxes, regulatory compliance, HR and labor compliance, the state’s overall business climate, and affordable housing.

JOIN UCAN UCAN has developed their 2019 State Policy Agenda and is hitting the ground running advocating on your behalf. Their top priorities are to reduce your tax burden, remove regulatory barriers, encourage employment, improve California’s business climate, increase the housing supply to reduce housing costs, and “fix” the Dynamex decision. Want to be a part of this local advocacy? The UCAN chambers will work with our advocates at Advocacy and Management Group in Sacramento to monitor legislative proposals and assist chamber leaders and chamber members in supporting bills that align with our shared priorities and oppose bills that are inconsistent with our unified agenda. Dear Friends and Neighbors, I would first like to thank you for allowing me to serve you, the people of District 1. I do not take this responsibility lightly and will do all I can to give you the highest level of service and support possible.
MEET SUPERVISOR GORE If I have not had the opportunity to meet you, please allow me to introduce myself: my husband, Rob, and I have lived in Roseville for more than 20 years. I have served as Councilmember, Vice Mayor and Mayor of the City of Roseville including time on the Transportation and Sustainability committees. I have also been an active member of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce, board member of the Roseville City School District Foundation and Trustee for William Jessup University in Rocklin. Placer County is one of the best places to live and work in Northern California. I will work to ensure we have a future that provides a safe, livable, and prosperous community with jobs and opportunity for our residents. My team includes District Director, Landon Wolf. He previously served as District Representative for Senator Jim 4

Nielsen and is here to provide support for constituent issues and to field any questions about County policy or agenda items. Landon received his Bachelor’s Degree in 2013 from California State University Monterey Bay and currently resides in Rocklin with his wife, Kayla and puppy, Kida.
LOOKING AHEAD The Board is seeking residents to represent their communities on County boards and commissions. You can find a full list of opportunities at https:// www.placer.ca.gov/bos/district1. These committees are a vital part of our County government and serve as a conduit for residents to share their thoughts and concerns with the Board of Supervisors. Please also save the date of Thursday, March 7th when we will host a special
open house event at our district office. More details to come soon. I look forward to working with the residents of District 1 and my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors as we look to address infrastructure needs, affordable housing and maintain the fiscal sustainability of the County’s budget. My team and I will continue meeting with County departments and other area leaders to have the best understanding of the issues facing our community. Written by Wendy Gerig, CEO of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce In January, we had our first Economic Development and Government Affairs Committee Meeting of the year at Randy Peter’s Catering & Events Center. First, we had an update from David Attaway from @theGrounds. @ theGrounds is building a brand new 190,000 square foot Event Center that will be completed in 2020 and will be able to fit 30 volleyball courts or 15 basketball courts. That means that soon Roseville will have the ability to host trade shows and massive indoor sports tournaments. It’s unbelievable what David and the team @theGrounds have accomplished. They saw our fairgrounds and saw the potential for something great there. Next we had an update from Laura Matteoli, the City of Roseville‘s Economic Development Director. She shared on new projects from housing to sports and recreation, economic forecasts, and statistics on unemployment and growth. It was great to hear about these new projects from our Chamber Members including: Residence Inn Rocklin/Roseville, Home2 Suites by Hilton, Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Adventist Health, VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa, Westfield Galleria at 12
