I grew up in Sacramento, attended UC Berkeley for undergrad and, after working for the California State Assembly for two years, went to law school at McGeorge. Since then I have been a practicing attorney with a focus on civil litigation, primarily defending large and small businesses throughout California. I married my wife, AnnMarie, in 1992 and we moved to Roseville in 1999. Our three children all attended Roseville public schools and now one is in medical school, one is getting his teaching credential and our youngest is a freshman in college. I have held a number of different volunteer positions over the years, including terms as President of both the Sacramento and Placer SPCA’s, and now as President of this incredible Chamber. My wife and I are both Leadership Roseville graduates. I also like to play golf, ride my bike and cook with my wife and kids.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE CHAMBER IN 2021 AND BEYOND? A:
Obviously, the Coronavirus has had a serious impact on nearly every aspect of life, and the Chamber is no exception. As we start to see light at the end of the tunnel with at least two promising vaccines on the near horizon, my goal is to maintain stability of the Chamber in the short term and grow the membership and in-person networking activities and other programs as social and economic restrictions are lessened.
Q: WHY ARE YOU A MEMBER OF THE CHAMBER?
A:
Our law firm values its Chamber membership for many reasons. Not only is it a great way to promote the legal services we offer, but we have also taken advantage of professional development programs and attended major community events hosted by the Chamber such as Roseville 2019 (unfortunately the event had to be cancelled in 2020) and Splash (also cancelled this year due to Covid restrictions.) The Chamber’s involvement in the United Chamber Advocacy Network (UCAN) also gives us an opportunity to express our position on significant legislative proposals that affect small to medium businesses such as ours.
Q: WHAT CHAMBER ACCOMPLISHMENT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF? A: I’d have to say that it was serving
as the Chamber’s representative on the City of Roseville’s Community Priorities Advisory Committee from June 2017 through Spring of 2018. It was a major time commitment, but also very rewarding. The Committee did a “deep dive” into all City-provided services when it was facing some significant budget obstacles, and we ended up issuing a comprehensive list of recommendations that helped guide the City council and staff through some very challenging times.
Q: WHAT HAS BEEN ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED FROM A MENTOR? A: I have a number of them, but two
at the top of my list are my father, Bill Mason, and the senior partner at my law firm, Steve Gurnee. My father instilled in me the importance and value of community service through his participation on a number of non-profit boards during his career
at Sutter Health, including one term as President of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce. Steve Gurnee has taught me how to be a better lawyer, and also that the best source of new business is referrals from existing clients who appreciate the good work you do for them. That’s really true!
Q: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED BY SERVING ON THE BOARD THAT WAS A SURPRISE TO YOU? A: That Wendy Gerig really does
have a photographic memory when it comes to remembering the names of everyone she has ever met! I’m really jealous of that, and I’m looking forward to working with her even more closely in 2021.
Q: A BUSINESS CAN’T BE SUCCESSFUL WITHOUT... A: Hard work, attention to detail and happy employees.
Q: THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ WAS... A: Everything ever written by John Grisham.
Q: IF YOU COULD GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF ADVICE, WHAT WOULD THAT BE... A: Don’t avoid taking on new
challenges due to fear of failing. Failure is a necessary part of life, and it really does make you a stronger person.

Communications Specialist Becoming mayor during a pandemic was not what I (or anyone else for that matter) anticipated in 2020. But I’m more than ready to build on the resiliency that defines our incredibly strong city. While public service is something I have made a priority for the last 18 years, so has raising a family and running a business. I’ve learned that if you raise your hand enough, you might just get picked. I began raising my hand to help in high school and again when I served in the Navy.

If you have an idea, need help or have a question, please, reach out. 3. I am a wife to my super hardworking husband Tony; I’m also a business owner, a US Navy veteran, sister, aunt and potentially new best
friend now to many. I’m also mom to my loves, twins Nick and Ella. I would not be here if it wasn’t for the support of my family, community and public services mentors. 4. Lastly, I will share that I am so thankful for this opportunity. While I never dreamed I would be mayor, this in fact is a dream come true. I plan to continue to work for our residents, family and business owners. I will give it my all and carry the torch as far as I can.
Before too long, I served 8 years as a school board member, 8 years as a planning commissioner and nearly that long as a chamber of commerce board member. Giving back was something instilled by my parents, small business owners. It has always been about service and making our community a better place to live. Our city has six goals that are the culmination of prior years of vision, planning, and pure determined grit. At the forefront are maintaining a safe and healthy community, remaining fiscally responsible and encouraging economic development. Lastly, there are some things I’d like to share about myself. 1. I was born in Roseville and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Like the old timers, I remember the oneway road to Folsom Lake, the bears at the zoo at Royer Park and the
