ook around Roseville and you can’t help but notice the changes. A person making the first visit to Downtown Roseville in a year or so will be surprise to see the Vernon Street Town Square, but may be delayed by the construction of the new roundabout at the corner of Oak Street and Washington Boulevard. Our visitor can enjoy a meal and specialty beer at Monk’s Cellar, or listen to live music at Sammy’s Island Bar and Grill, both of which should be open by the time this goes to print.

ur BECOME committee is working with our four school districts (Dry Creek Joint Elementary School, Eureka Union School, Roseville City School, and Roseville Joint Union High School) in recruiting 40 business members who would like to shadow a principal on Tuesday, October 7th.

With the name “Principal for a DAY,” most people assumed the program went throughout the whole entire school day, but in reality, it’s actually half a day from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

Michael Yee from Meyer & Yee, LLP is one of our new members that has taken advantage of this advertising opportunity. “Our firm has used the Roseville Chamber for two eblasts, so far, with great success for our seminars. The cost was very low and we were able to reach a wide audience.

It also worked great as we got a lot of chamber members to sign up for seminar. That more than made up for the cost of the eblast. In addition, it got our name out there as we recently signed up as a new member of the chamber. We are doing another seminar and we will definitely use the Roseville Chamber eblast again.”

Pastor Stephen W. Pudinski of First United Methodist Church-Roseville had a very successful turn out from his eblast. “We recently used the eblast to advertise our recent event, the “Roseville Strong” Health and Safety Fair. As we have done in the past, we had our eblast sent out the Saturday before our event, in an attempt to attract people to the event. A number of Chamber members saw our eblast, called and asked if they could be a part of the fair. We did not anticipate such a response.! nother exemplary school year is underway for children in the Eureka Union School District. With the development and approval of our first Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) guided by a wide range of stakeholder input throughout the 2013-14 school year, a variety of new and exciting opportunities will be provided this year in our ongoing efforts to continue to enhance our outstanding educational experiences for “every student – in every school – every day.” Our EUSD team continues with our high energy, commitment and dedication to excellence on behalf of our most deserving students!

The LCAP, a multi-year (3 year) document, includes five (5) goal areas which frame the priorities for our continual improvement.

•California Common Core State Standards (CCCSS) Implementation •Enhanced Access to Technology

•Enhanced Opportunities for Student Intervention and Enrichment •Safety, Facilities and Support Services •Student Engagement Our Exceptional Partnership with the Eureka Schools Foundation (ESF) Continues Our District continues to benefit from the unique and tremendous support of ESF. Our students receive continued enrichment opportunities while offering our exemplary Summer Institute sessions for our professional staff. The District will receive over $360,000 in donations for the 2014-15 school year, for which we are extremely grateful. We are extremely proud of our partnership with ESF for over 20 years which has provided our District with nearly $7 million dollars to support our enrichment programs for your children and professional development opportunities for our staff, as well. ESF will continue to support our LCAP goals as offerings for student

enrichment before and after school will include World Languages and Computer Coding (iCode) courses. Due to the tremendous success of these programs during the school year and summers, we will continue to pursue expansion of these programs to meet the needs of our students. Enrichment learning includes student access to our school libraries, computer/technology education, and junior high athletics.

Community and staff input, involvement and active participation are truly the keys to our success in the Eureka Union School District “family” and community! We look forward to another tremendously successful school year for all students.

Roseville Chamber PAC…Taking Action!

J

ust a few years ago, the nine-member Roseville Chamber PAC board took deliberate steps to be more relevant within the local political climate. Historically, PAC only endorsed ballot measures such as bonds and propositions and shied away from the potentially ‘precarious’ duty of endorsing candidates. Wanting to be a reliable political resource for our members and business community, in 2011, we changed our trajectory and amended our by-laws to add the ability to endorse candidates.

In 2012, we had our first opportunity to genuinely have a profound impact on local races. We interviewed political aspirers and ultimately endorsed candidates for local office who we believed would best serve the community. How did we do? One hundred percent of Roseville Chamber PAC endorsed candidates were elected or re-elected to office.

We have a significant ballot measure before us in the November 2014 general election. As with all ballot measures, it calls for due diligence to make the best choice. You will see Measure B (Ballot Measure Proposing an Amendment to the Placer County Charter), which seeks to update the antiquated compensation received by the members of the Placer County Board of Supervisors.

You may ask “why increase the pay for elected officials?” Well, here are the facts that led our PAC board to support Measure B: Since 1992, the salary of the Board of Supervisors has been capped at $30,000 and they do not receive any benefits.

Twenty plus years without a pay raise is too long. The county includes 350,000+constituents and operates an $800 million budget, requiring significantly more oversight than 20 years ago. Only three of 58 California counties pay board members less than Placer County and those three counties are among the smallest in the state. Every Placer County Charter Review Committee convened since 1997 has recommended an increase in the board member salary. If voters approve the initiative, the salary will increase to $71,000.

Why is this issue important? Because ultimately, as voters, we can determine who is elected to office. We need to attract the caliber of elected official we deserve and include a pay commensurate with their duties.

After working at Clark Auto Body for over 15 years, Joseph Edward Wolcik partnered up with his family to open up Edwards Collision Studios in June 2014. They designed a unique studio that is tailored to better fit each and every customer’s needs, as opposed to the larger body shops that cater to the insurance companies. Being a Chamber Ambassador has helped him a lot. It has given him the opportunity to stay in touch and get to know his customers on a more personal level outside of the shop.

Q: How did this impact you?

With a new company you say “so long,” to the 9-5. I am on the clock, around the clock 6-7 days a week. That takes some

adjustment not only on my part, but on the part of my familiy as well.

Q: How are you enjoying it?

I love change! Change is what you make of it. You’ve got to be flexible in today’s ever changing market and especially in a field as creative as the auto body industry.

Q: What are your biggest adjustments Giving up the larger salary, Yes! That always requires a lot of adjustment. However, the end result is this unique opportunity to advance my own character and talents as a local business man.

CITY OF ROSEVILLE UPDATE Ray Kerridge City Manager

Roseville Is at the Height of Change F

rom downtown revitalization to plans for a hotel-conference center and a new specific plan that includes a SacState satellite campus, Roseville is at the height of the season of change.

I’m often caught behind a bulldozer as I drive through downtown, and all day I hear the sound of jackhammers outside my office. I’ve been looking forward to having these kinds of “problems” because they’re the sights and sounds of a downtown being revitalized.

The Oak Street Improvement Project, which includes the roundabout at Washington Boulevard and Oak Street, is on track for completion by the end of this year. This signature landmark will completely transform an important downtown entry point and improve traffic flow as we grow.

Seeing the reopening of Sammy’s Island Bar & Grill speaks to Sammy Hagar’s confidence in the direction of downtown Roseville’s development.

And next door is The Monk’s Cellar, a newly opened community-focused brewery and restaurant that will be a regional destination for beer connoisseurs.

We expect construction to start next year on a new downtown Fire Station No. 1 at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Lincoln Street, with completion in 2016. This relocation opens prime development possibilities on Dry Creek. Three pedestrian bridges are planned as well, connecting downtown with Royer Park.

Near the Galleria along Highway 65 is the site of the proposed hotel/ conference center, an amenity in high demand for South Placer County.

The City is exploring public-private financing options and is anticipating groundbreaking next spring, with a fall 2016 opening.

Further north along the Highway 65 corridor, plans have been revived for the Placer Ranch development, which would include a satellite SacState campus. The developers along with representatives from SacState, and many community leaders spoke at a June City Council meeting in support of this unique opportunity.

With change being constant, we look forward to many new opportunities with the changes underway.

Taking Your First Steps for Change...

hamber member, John Dinakaran came up with the name, “First Step” because he believes that in order to make positive changes in our lifestyle, we all need to take that first step.

Once you’ve made the full decision to change, this is the first step to recovery.

First Step Physical Therapy had a different view compared to other larger businesses when they opened up their clinic off Sunrise Blvd in August 2013. After looking around a few clinics and how they function, they wanted something different for their patients. The clinics were far too busy, and the physical therapists didn’t give enough personal time with each patient.

First Step teaches and educates their patients on their ailments.

Normally when a patient comes through their doors, they are filled with frustration because not only are they in pain, but they have been to a million clinics, that didn’t seem to give them a proper solution for their problem. At First Step, they provide them with precautions of why pain is caused on certain movements, this way they don’t injure themselves again. If a patient fully understands the whole process, they are more likely to have a faster healing process because they know how to take care of their bodies outside of the clinic. Homework and education is the key to positive change for the patients of First Step Physical Therapy.

his year 80’s flashback cover band, Superlicious will be performing booty shakin’ music at SPLASH.

artists; Ray Cadena, Tiffany Norvella, Aaron Smith, Swaine Goodwin and Tom Vinci.

These seasoned musicians and artists have played throughout Northern California including Powerhouse Pub in Folsom, Tex Wasabi’s in Sacramento and Thunder Valley Casino to name a few.

SPLASH will be held on Saturday, September 13th from 6:30pm to 10:00pm at the Roseville Aquatics Complex. Tickets on sale now at the Chamber office or you can get them at the door. Tickets are $80 per person and is all inclusive.
