CEO Highlights As I sat down to recap this year in a single article, I suddenly felt the plight of every past author. I knew the story I wanted to tell but struggled with the words to effectively communicate the message. Isn’t that true of most of us in business. We know that “storytelling” is the new marketing, yet we struggle to tell our tale. It made me think, a story is only as good as it’s author. And a good author is able to take the intangibles and make them tangible. Twain. Tolkien. Rowling.

I am far from the talent aforementioned, my hope though as you peer through the pages of our Annual Report- is that I am able to paint a tangible picture for you of all the ways your Chamber is hard at work at for you and your business. Yes, I know you know about SPLASHRoseville’s Biggest Pary of the Year, and our 90+ events we host every year yet that is only piece of what our team does. My hope is through these pages we get better at sharing our story. Yes, we do throw a damn good party but the work we are doing for our local business community through our strategic partnerships, state & local advocacy efforts and workforce development programs is impactful. It’s important.

It affects you and your business every single day.

So often our members focus on the tangible when their renewal time comes along and they cancel because they aren’t able to attend any of our events. They seem to forget that membership in the Chamber is so much more than events. They don’t realize how much the Chamber is invested in our business community. Roseville is a great place to live, work & do business, but that didn’t just happen by chance. For instance did you know that this year the Chamber worked alongside the City’s Economic Development Department to help bring new businesses to this area? Or that the Chamber’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to support Measure B- the sales tax initiative protecting our quality of life here in Roseville making us instrumental in getting the messaging out regarding this measure- which passed? Or that our Board felt that the local business community needed a stronger voice at the State level and partnered with other local Chambers to hire a lobbyist to work alongside our elected officials? These are the stories we have to be better at telling, because not one of those is bound by your attendance. We are working for your business, while you are busy working on your business and you don’t have to show up to anything.

The icons to the left are scattered within this publication in order to be a visual reminder to you that the Chamber is working on more than what meets the eye. As always, I remain appreciative of your membership and your investment in us. My door is always open if you want to hear more of our story.

In 2018

Through our efforts in Workforce Development, to encourage talent to stay within Placer County after graduation by connecting them with local employers.

• Worked with our local education partners: Sierra College, Sacramento State & William Jessup University to develop workforce-student connections & opportunties.

• Hosted two workshops for business owners to learn how to integrate a successful internship program into their business- to grow talent from within.

By helping our business owners BE HEARD at the State level through UCAN. •

In 2018 we teamed up with other local chambers in the Sacramento Region to form UCAN- the United Chamber Advocacy Network.

Enlisting our own lobbyist to work with our legislators and their colleauges to advance our busness’ priorities at the State Capitol.

The Policy Agenda for 2018 included reducing our tax burden, removing regulatory barriers, encouraging employment, diminishing legal liability and improving California’s business climate. Overall, the Legislature affirmed 64% of UCAN’s positions.

Connecting business owners with what’s going on locally at the City & County levels.

Through our monthly Economic & Government Affairs meetings you have the opportunity to stay up to date in order to make informed decisions for you and your business.

Quarterly these meetings are combined with the Rocklin, Lincoln, Loomis and Auburn Chambers to tackle County wide issues.

Roseville 2018 | Placer County’s Premier Business & Economic Event

• This event focused on the future trends in business & how technology, culture & the human factor play a part.

• Over 500 attendees engaged in this event. The event featured three breakout sessions, an informative luncheon panel, access to the premier trendshow and a sips & sweets afternoon reception.

• R18 was definitely the place to be to rub elbows with the movers and shakers of our business community.

Our dedicated Ambassador Team worked tirelessly this year to ensure that our members were informed and connected to all of the programs and services that the Chamber offers.

• This year we had 23 Ambassadors, these volunteers performed 92 Ribbon Cuttings, were the friendly faces greeting you at all 90+ of the Chamber’s events and this group also made personal visits to over 1300 Chamber businesses. All to ensure every member was reaping all the benefits that their membership grants them!

Focused Networking Groups, designed to help idenify & solve problems for local business owners.

• This year we held three specialized Networking Groups.

• Our CEO Roundtable luncheons, focused on our larger employer’s “C” level members. At these events the group

participated in mastermind activities, and had

keynote speakers focused on tax planning, communication skills, and leadership strategies.

• Our EDG- Entreprenurial Development Group focused on small business owners. This group led by Craig Hettrich of California Growth Advisors worked towards creating a space where industry issues could be talked about outloud in a roundtable setting • This was our first year participating in the Restaurant/Hospitality Meet & Greet where we facilitated networking between our local Hoteliers & surrounding Chamber restaurants- in order to help drive business.

COMMUNITY In 2018

Strengthening

Through Roseville’s Biggest Party of the Year we raised $23,950 for the City of Roseville’s At Risk Youth Programs.

• This event had record breaking attendance, causing the event to sell out

almost 2 weeks prior.

• There were 31 food vendors and 31 beverage vendors all serving

some of the area’s finest eats & drinks.

• The evening was also filled with music by fan favorites- the 80’z All Star Band and the Steel Drum Band.

By creating opportunities for employers to invest in their Young Professionals through our Ignite Group.

• This year this group “Re-Ignited”- allowing Ignite to have a more regional approach, focusing on providing networking & professional

development events to individuals between 21-40 years of age.

• This group also hosted the 10th Annaul BASH Event. The BASH was an evening filled with casino games, music, food and beverages from some of the Chamber’s top vendors!

• Additionally this group hosted 4 Offsite events- focused on

professional development and 8 Happy Hours featuring local

nonprofits.

Protected Roseville’s quality of life by endorsing and informing resident’s about Roseville’s Sales Tax Initiative-Measure B. •

After throrough vetting of the City’s financials and looking into possible solutions to the budget gap, our Board of Directors unanimously supported Measure B- the half cent sales tax measure that went on the November ballot.

Measure B was passed in the November election and will go towards ensuring Roseville’s essential services such as public safety, roads, parks, recreation programs & libraries.

Marked the 22nd year of our Leadership Roseville Program- designed to educate and develop effective community leaders who will help create a spirit of cooperation for the resolution of future community challenges.

• This 9 month program uses a coalition of community participants to identify and stimulate future leaders and through a structured program. It provides a broad-based overview of how business and government affect our community.

• This year we graduated 23 students and accepted 21 new students into the program.

• Many graduates of this program go on to serve in public office or on our City’s various Boards and Commissions.

And of course, we hosted over 90+ events, focused on bringing together the local business community.

Breakfast, Lunches, Happy Hours- we are constantly looking for ways to make you and your company visible in our community.

• We also strive to be a conduit of valuable information for your business through our seminars and promoting other learning opportunities through our members.

• In 2018, we hosted Business Before Hours- featuring 2019 tax planning information, a breakout on the human mind and how it impacts performance, and the importance of laughter in the workplace.
