Letter from the CEO Well, we survived! I don’t believe any of you will think I’m exaggerating when I say that 2020 was one of the most challenging years your Chamber and the world have faced. But, it’s thanks to the dedication of our Board of Directors, the resilience of our Staff, and your steadfast support that we are still here to serve your business.

Your Chamber worked this past year to be a catalyst for business growth in a year where that seemed radical. We strived to be a convener for business leaders and influencers with our 80 plus virtual events. We dedicated ourselves to being a champion for stronger communities, and Roseville is rebounding thanks to these efforts.

When our businesses were forced to shut down in-person operations, your Chamber quickly pivoted, offering all of our crowd-pleasing events virtually and we pooled resources to create materials and websites that offered direct support to your business and your employees.

In a year where all of our largest events were canceled, postponed, or held virtually, we have committed ourselves to advocating on behalf of your business and its interests. Through our partners at UCAN (United Chamber Advocacy Network) and the California Chamber of Commerce, we are taking a stand on state legislation that impacts the success of your business.

When I first came to Roseville in 1993, I saw a City with an abundance of potential, and look how our community has grown! As we look ahead to 2021, three words come to mind: opportunity, recovery, and development.

For all the challenges we faced in 2020, new opportunities still keep coming to Roseville. A big opportunity the Chamber sees is engaging with all of Roseville’s newest residents. We are excited to welcome them to our amazing City and we are working hard to get them engaged and involved by sharing about the importance of a strong local business community, educating them with programs like Leadership Roseville, sharing invitations to SPLASH and other Chamber events, and even welcoming them as new Chamber members!

The recovery from businesses being shut down will take time, but we are not slowing down our advocacy efforts for business support and researching new ways we can get creative in our own recovery efforts.

Luckily, Roseville’s economic development has not slowed down. New projects, new housing developments, new job centers, and more are coming to Roseville every week. Our path to recovery will be smoother because of the ongoing development that has kept Roseville growing stronger every day.

As our organization looks forward, I’m extremely hopeful for our business community, fortunate for strong probusiness City leaders, and our team at the Chamber is ready to take on any challenge 2021 may bring. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. We Are Roseville!

A GLANCE AT 2020 | Our successes and challenges

January 30, 2020 Installation Dinner The annual event was held at Timber Creek Ballroom where new President Doug Wagemann and the Board were installed for the year

May 18, 2020 Pay It Forward We begin the “Pay It Forward” campaign after Mitch Clouse of Clouse Insurance Agency paid it forward and paid another member’s dues. This raised nearly $15,000 in renewals for struggling businesses.

March 25, 2020 Introducing Online Content We launched the Members-Only Content Library where every virtual event is stored for members to watch at any time and we launched the Members-Only Facebook Group for networking, resources, and assistance.

March 20, 2020 First Virtual Event The March Chamber Luncheon was our first virtual event of the year. Chamber Members were encouraged to order takeout/delivery from restaurants while they watched the presentation.

March 12, 2020 The Bash For our last in-person event before COVID-19, the Ignite Young Professionals hosted their biggest party of the year, “The Bash” at Randy Peters Catering & Event Center.

April 2020 Open South Placer Safely The South Placer Chambers developed a petition and presented findings at the Board of Supervisors meeting to safely reopen Placer County. The petition had 1,952 signatures and over 700 comments. On April 29th, the County Health Officer announced a phased reopening.

June 22, 2020 PPE Distribution We partnered with the City of Roseville to distribute 60,000 masks and 400 gallons of hand sanitizer to businesses.

November 2020 Shop Placer launches We joined Placer County chambers and governments to support “Shop Placer,” encouraging residents to shop locally during the holiday season.

September 1, 2020 Petition for Indoor Operations The South Placer Chambers developed a second petition to allow businesses to operate indoors due to low air quality from wildfires. This petition had over 860 signatures.

July 29, 2020 Placer Shares Funding Placer County Board of Supervisors announced that they would be distributing funding to businesses and nonprofits impacted by COVID-19. A total of $16 million was given to local businesses.

September 2020 Placer Valley Eats May 29, 2020 “We’re Open” Parade We hosted our first “We’re Open” Parade celebrating businesses that are open for customers.

We joined other South Placer Chambers (Rocklin, Lincoln, and Loomis) to kick off “Placer Valley Eats.” Four weekends, four cities, and a whole lot of takeout! 35 Roseville restaurants, breweries, wineries, bakeries, and caterers participated in the “Takeout Roseville” weekend from September 11-13, 2020.

2021 2021 STRATEGIC STRATEGIC PLAN PLAN Annually, our Board spends time at the planning conference reviewing the past year’s trends, areas of opportunities, and accomplishments in order to create a strategic plan for the upcoming year. The following are the Board’s priorities for the Chamber going into 2021. These priorities also have tactics, tracking measurables and a Board Champion assigned to them.

PRIORITY 1

Membership and Community Engagement

To retain and grow membership by maintaining a 76% retention rate over the next three years and actively engaging and promoting our community.

Goal 1: Retain existing members over the next three years and continue to grow membership through the acquisition of new members.

Goal 2: Increase the value of member-to-member relationships through Chamber programming.

Goal 3: Connect with newcomers moving into Roseville.

Goal 4: Support emergency preparedness in our community.

Goal 5: Through IGNITE, continue to grow our young professionals as business leaders in our community.

Goal 6: Enhance member education programming.

Goal 7: Identify ways the Board can actively support the Business Development Team to help open doors with potential new members.

PRIORITY 2

Advocacy and Political Action

To be an advocate for the interests of our members in the areas of the economy, business, local and state government, and the strengthening of our community.

Goal 1: Be a convener and partner to support initiatives and co-promote opportunities.

Goal 2: Be the pro-business voice in our area.

PRIORITY 3

Economic Development

To ensure our local economy grows through workforce development, business attraction and retention, and ensuring a business-friendly environment.

Goal 1: Through Chamber initiatives or in partnership with other organizations, ensure workforce development is a priority in the Roseville area.

Goal 2: Engage in activities to increase business attraction and retention in the area.

Governance

To continually strengthen the governance of the Chamber through a strong Board, effective policies, and forward-focused strategies.

Goal 1: Follow the Organizational Succession Plan for the CEO and Board Member positions.

Goal 2: Ensure the Chamber Board meeting structure incorporates the status of the strategic plan as a living document..
