A great big thank you to ...

NCS Car wash

A huge thank you to NCS (National Citizen Service group) for organising a charity car wash and working hard to raise money for Little Valley. They raised £218 which will do so much good for the shelter animals who need our care. Thanks also to Exeter City Football Club for hosting the team at St James Park.

Super Shubee!

As if one 5k run wasn’t enough... Shubee decided to run twelve of them for her 60k Running Challenge back in June, raising £210 for Little Valley! “This is my first time doing a charity run, and I’ve always wanted to try and raise funds for an animal charity. I don’t live in Exeter, but when I was reading about RSPCA Little Valley on the Just Giving website, I thought it would be useful to raise funds for a small animal charity trying to make a difference”, says Shubee.

Sofija & Dad complete Scaffel Pike Challenge

Slavomir Kondratovic and his 10 year old daughter Sofija set off to the Lake District to climb three major peaks - Bow Fell, Esk Pike and Scaffel Pike. Sofija is a huge animal lover and decided to raise money for Little Valley by taking on this huge challenge. The duo completed 2 of the hikes but bad weather stopped them from doing Scaffel Pike. Undeterred, the pair went back and completed Scaffel as well as Lingmell Pike too, just for good measure! The four elevations total over 3,572m and Sofija has raised £391 to date with the Just Giving page still active. Amazing!

Thanks to Harriet, Molly & Eadie for visiting the shelter to donate the money they collected for Little Valley. The girls had a great time meeting the cats and small animals.

Thank you to each and every one of you who responded to our appeal for poo bags and cat litter recently. We are always overwhelmed by the kindness shown by you all.

Thank you!

The Exeter Co-Op team helped check some of our gazebos ready for our upcoming events. They did a fantastic job and always show great support for Little Valley. Thank you team Co-Op!

Help from Happy Dogs

Thank you to the lovely people at Happy Dogs in Exmouth and all their customers for donating bags of food and treats to the shelter. These random acts of kindness really do provide a lifeline for us and our dogs.

Andrew puts his best foot forward for Little Valley

Andrew Lofthouse (former trustee) undertook a 50km walking challenge around the south coast in just one day! He raised over £2,300 and split the sponsorship money between Cancer Research UK and Little Valley. Thanks so much to Andrew for his support and effort.

Sidwell Street shop volunteer thank you party and long service awards

Our Sidwell Street shop had a little shindig to thank its volunteers for all the hard work that they put in keeping the store looking great and greeting our customers with a smile. Our Little Valley volunteers really are the best. Congratulations to Jane, Eva and Stefan who were also given their 5 years long service awards on the night (Babs didn’t get one sadly).

When we rehome an animal we love to hear how they are settling into their new lives. Here’s an update on a few of our previous residents.

Dobbie’s new family were super patient with him and did multiple meets before taking him home. Dobbie soon learnt that every time they came they would always bring lots of lovely hot dog sausages with them. Watching his confidence grow every time his new family came to visit was so lovely for the staff to see!

After 8 long months in the shelter Elsa has finally found a beautiful home in the countryside with 4 acres to explore. She has most certainly landed on all four paws in her new home! As you can see, she is very relaxed and enjoying taking things easy. We couldn’t be happier for her and her adopter who we trust will bring out the best in her.

Hoppy loves her retirement home, exploring and shuffling about on her 3 legs. She didn’t take long to find herself a favourite place to snooze on the landing after mastering the stairs. She loves the garden and spends most of the day stretching out on the grass. She climbs on the sofa for a cuddle and watches TV whilst playing with her toys.

Duchess (now Fluff), has quickly adapted to life in her new home. She sleeps on her owner’s bed, on the floor, on office chairs, in the loft … anywhere but her own bed! She is purring loudly and getting plenty of love and affection. She enjoys chasing a bouncy ball around the house and has mad moments every evening after dinner.

Remember Sugar from our last newsletter? Well she has been rehomed and is doing amazing! She is playful, adventurous and great at catching (and eating) flies. Her knee issues don’t seem to be holding her back and she often races around the garden where she spends most of her time under the leafy plants. She still sleeps with the knitted blanket she had at the shelter.

Spruce the hamster is loving his new life and showing lots of personality. He has settled in well and has been a welcome addition to his new home with owner Millie. He loves to be out of his cage in the evening pottering around on his assault course and enjoying a slice of apple. Spruce is so sweet and friendly and loves lots of cuddles and attention.

Dino, our very vocal cockerel, has been rehomed to our shelter manager’s family farm where he is currently strutting around with a bevy of beautiful hens. He is very much enjoying the company of others and all the space he has to explore.

This sweet boy Domino has found a lovely home in East Devon and is living like a king. He has a lovely garden to roam around in with his new rabbit companion and the two have bonded well. Domino spends much of his time relaxing in the shade, hopping around the bushes and loves it when he is allowed on the bed as a special treat.

Ron (now Gilbert), has come so far in such a short time with the help of his new family. Initially he struggled with separation anxiety but with time, patience, enrichment and baby gates, Gilbert has learnt to overcome this. He is enjoying walks in the hills of North Wales and loves bouncing around the fields. He is currently working on his recall and learning to walk past sheep calmly. The whole family love Gilbert, but not his slobber!

Featured Animals for Adoption

These animals have been waiting a long time for their perfect match to come along and give them a home. Could you be who they’ve been waiting for?

This super boy is Zeus, a 3 year old German Shepherd. Sadly Zeus has had a poor start to life and has been under-socialised. This has left him with some insecurities, but he has come a long way. Once Zeus knows you, he will show you just how much fun he can be. Zeus is on the lookout for an experienced Shepherd home with a large garden, without children or cats.

Willow is a sweet girl with a lovely temperament. She is good with dogs out on walks. Willow could live with children aged 16+, pending meets at the shelter. She will need a secure garden so she can have some off lead freedom. Willow is an absolute joy to be around; she would love long walks in the countryside, and cuddling up next to you on the sofa!

Smurf is a sweet, gentle boy who can be a little worried initially but loves fuss and attention from his human friends once he has had a chance to settle in. Sadly he had to have one of his eyes removed but he has healed well and no further treatment is needed. Smurf would like a new home with a nice garden to explore. He would prefer to be the only pet and get all the attention.

Brothers Ryder & River were born at the shelter back in January and are living really well together, so we are looking to rehome them together as long as they are given enough space to do their own thing. They are always grooming each other and snuggling up for naps. Ryder and River will need an outside home, with a large shed/Wendy house and ideally a free range garden.
