A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

DR. TODD THORPE

This past year has been one of meaningful progress, growth, and community impact. I am grateful for the continued support of our staff, families, partners, and supporters who make our mission possible every day.

A major milestone was the launch of the Reach for the Stars Campaign to support the StarPoint Outdoor Enhancement & Accessibility Project. After years of thoughtful planning and design, we are now bringing this vision to life—creating a more inclusive environment for those we support.

While the first phase of this project will provide a much needed upgrade and enhanced accessibility to the main entrance and parking area, we are especially excited for the next phases to begin when the grounds will continue to transform into a fully accessible outdoor space for recreation, relaxation, and connection.

Alongside these exterior improvements, plans to implement programmatic changes at StarPoint are underway. These efforts focus on increasing engagement, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that each person’s needs and preferences remain at the center of our services.

Another highlight was the launch of our very first Fall for All Adaptive & Inclusive Fall Festival - an event that brought individuals, families, and the community together for a fun-filled, inclusive celebration that reflected the heart of our mission.

As we look ahead, we do so with momentum and purpose. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Each Residential Group Home offers a safe, supportive, home-like environment, staffed 24 hours a day and located in neighborhoods throughout Alamance County— promoting both comfort and community inclusion. For individuals with more complex medical, physical, and personal care needs, Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) provide the highest level of support.

Supported Living Apartments are fully equipped for daily living, supporting individuals in cooking, maintaining their homes, and managing their own routines.

Day Services at StarPoint provide a varied program of social, education and supportive activities that prioritze each individual’s abilities, preferences and goals.

HOW WE SUPPORT Support is the foundation of everything we do, and it takes shape in meaningful ways across every setting—at our StarPoint Day Program, in our group homes, in our Indepentent Living Community, out in the community, and throughout daily life.

At the StarPoint Day Program, support means creating an environment where individuals can explore interests, build skills, and engage with others in ways that are both structured and flexible. Through adaptive activities, individualized plans, and a focus on accessibility, we help each person participate fully and confidently, while encouraging growth, creativity, and personal expression.

In our group homes, support is woven into the rhythms of everyday living. From preparing meals and maintaining a home to managing personal care and developing independent living skills, our staff provide guidance that is respectful, consistent, and tailored to each individual. We strive to create spaces that feel safe, comfortable, and truly like home—where individuals are supported not just in care, but in choice and routine.

In our independent living apartments, support is designed to promote autonomy while ensuring individuals have access to assistance when needed. Individuals live as independently as possible, making their own choices and managing their daily lives, with staff providing guidance, check-ins, and skill-building support. This model fosters confidence, responsibility, and a greater sense of ownership over one’s life.

In daily life, support often shows up in small but significant ways—encouragement to try something new, assistance in overcoming challenges, or simply being a steady and trusted presence. It is through these everyday moments that confidence grows, relationships deepen, and independence becomes more attainable.

REACH FOR THE STARS Creating Possibilities for All Abilities

Main Entrance

The Reach for the Stars Campaign is an initiative to inspire community partnership and collaboration to support the StarPoint Outdoor Enhancement & Accessibility Project.

Construction will begin in the spring of 2026, with critical upgrades to accessibility, parking, and the main entrance— laying the foundation for a more welcoming, inclusive experience for all who visit. The first phase is scheduled for completion in August of 2026 with work to reimagine the front and back outdoor spaces to follow.

The covered entry at StarPoint’s main entrance will significantly enhance the daily arrival and departure experience for participants, creating a sheltered space that provides protection from the elements. Paired with new automatic sliding doors, these feature strengthen accessibility and ensures a smoother, more supportive transition into and out of the building each day.

Features in the front and back yard areas include a wide ADA walking path, raised garden beds designed for

accessibility, wheelchair-accessible and adaptive swings, and inclusive gathering and recreation spaces. Together, these elements create an outdoor environment that supports mobility, encourages engagement, and ensures individuals of all abilities can participate fully in recreational and social activities.

We are grateful for a transformative lead gift of $500,000 which has launched the campaign and set this vision into motion. This progress has been made possible through the leadership and investment of key partners and early supporters - including the City of Burlington, Impact Alamance, and New Leaf Society- whose commitment has advanced the project from concept to construction.

HOW WE EMPOWER At the core of our mission is a commitment to empowering the individuals we serve by focusing on their unique needs, desires, and goals. We believe each person should have a voice in shaping their daily experiences and future opportunities.

Individuals are encouraged to make choices about the activities they participate in, the outings they attend, and how they engage in the community.

This person-centered approach fosters independence, confidence, and a true sense of belonging. We support individuals in pursuing educational opportunities and building skills that promote personal growth and independence. We also create pathways to meaningful employment, whether through opportunities at StarPoint or with community-based employers.

Throughout the year, individuals take part in a wide variety of meaningful experiences —from dances and holiday celebrations to fishing trips and community outings. Many also proudly participate in Special Olympics, building skills, confidence, and camaraderie. Our annual Christmas concert is a special highlight, where individuals have the opportunity to choose their songs, instruments, and roles, allowing their creativity and personalities to shine.

By prioritizing choice, inclusion, and opportunity, we empower individuals to explore their interests, build relationships, and live fulfilling, self-directed lives.

YOUR IMPACT Special Thanks We are deeply grateful to our community partners—including individual supporters, corporate sponsors, foundations, faith communities, colleges and universities, municipalities, public service agencies, volunteers, and other organizations—for their generosity and compassion.

Beyond financial support, they enrich the lives of those we serve by creating inclusive opportunities for meaningful engagement, celebrating holidays with gifts and shared experiences, volunteering their time, and consistently welcoming our individuals with openness and care.

Fall for All Adaptive & Inclusive Festival The first annual Fall for All Adaptive & Inclusive Festival was held in October and proved to be a tremendous success. This event was made possible through the incredible support of our community. What began as a vision—to create a fully accessible event with activities designed for individuals of all abilities—became a meaningful and joyful reality.

Community members from across the area gathered at the Burlington Sock Puppets Stadium to take part in this inaugural event hosted by Ralph Scott LifeServices.

Volunteers played a vital role in supporting adaptive games and crafts throughout the day and supporting attendees.

One of the highlights was Drums Alive, which energized the crowd and gave attendees an interactive and inclusive musical experience. Guests also enjoyed face painting, magic, and concessions, creating a fun, welcoming atmosphere for all.

The Fall for All truly reflected the power of inclusion, community, and connection—and we look forward to its return in 2026.
