The Bake-Off! Spend a week at St. Peter’s learning how to make all of your favorite delicious deserts. Led by our experienced bakers, each day students will divide into two groups and have an official BAKE-OFF with guest judges, special prizes, and advantages for the next day! If you’ve got a sweet tooth, be sure to join us for a week of fun and tasty competition.

STUDENTS WILL: I Choose and read recipes I Measure out ingredients and learn

various baking techniques I Decorate their own creations I Compete in various baking challenges I Meet successful bakers in the area and

learn how they make it work I Learn the history of various treats and

how they came about I Come away from the week with an

original recipe they created themselves

Playwrighting

Perfecting the Basics

Ever wonder how your stories can really come to life? Join us for a week of exploration on taking ideas from your imagination to the stage. With plenty of time to write and edit, our teachers will help you through all the hurdles of playwrighting with helpful hints and best ways to set yourself up for success as a writer.

STUDENTS WILL: I Be encouraged to harness and believe

in their unique ideas I Have time to write/edit/revise ideas I See their words on their feet during

cold readings I Learn the correct formatting for stage

scripts I Explore the history of plays and

different types being written I Complete their own short play to

present on the last day

Yarn Bombing Be a part of the subversive and soft artform sweeping the nation! St. Peter’s School’s own queen of yarn, Mrs. Brady, will lead students on a week of creating their own pieces to take out and “bomb” Society Hill with. If you’ve got a creative streak and an even bigger rebellious streak, then this week would be perfect for you.

STUDENTS WILL: I Learn various yarn techniques I Develop skills in measurement and

assembly I Learn about subversive art-forms and

their place in social changes I Identify their “bombing” destinations I Head out and about in Society Hill on

the final day to yarn bomb the neighborhood.

Junior Chefs

Gordon Ramsay shouldn’t be the only one tasting delicious food from talented young chefs.

During this week, our experienced cooking teachers will lead students through various dishes and prepare them for the greater culinary world! With all materials provided, you need only come with a passion for the food.

Mural Project Philadelphia is known for its Mural Arts Project. You can span the city and see an array of beautifully painted murals in almost any neighborhood. Now it’s time for St. Peter’s Summer Program to make a major contribution. Join our amazing art teacher in developing and creating a unique and dynamic mural on our own West Lawn where students play each and every day! If you’ve got big ideas and a want to really make your mark, this week is right up your alley.

STUDENTS WILL: I Develop painting, drawing, and

mosaic techniques I Learn to turn ideas in the classroom

into a finished piece outside I Work together to design and create a

huge mural for St. Peter’s School I Learn a bit of art history for each

medium and how they are used today

A WEEK WITH

The Beatles

Led by our very own Beatles historian, students will become immersed in one of the most iconic groups in music.

Learn about their journey, practice their songs, and see how their work inspired generations of musicians. At the end of the week, students will present a short, but dynamic presentation that they will develop showcasing all they have learned.

STUDENTS WILL: I Learn all about The Beatles story I See live performances that were

recorded from the past I Learn songs they wrote and how they

can perform them I Examine how they influenced the

current state of music I Create an original showcase for the

final day

App Design 1

with Youth Digital

In App Design 1, students learn the basics of programming by creating their first app. Students use software to program and design their apps, and learn both concrete development skills and principles of design. They will start with a blank white screen, but by the end of course, they will have a professional-quality app on their iPod touch®, iPhone® or iPad®.

STUDENTS WILL: I Partner with Youth Digital to learn all

skills for app design I Work both on computer and in a

Mod Design 1

with Youth Digital

In Youth Digital’s most popular online course, kids learn the fundamentals of Java programming by creating their own Mod for Minecraft®. For every item, block or creature they want to add, kids first design the graphics, then they modify real Java code to quickly program their new features. Students edit in order to learn the fundamentals of the language without getting bogged down typing hundreds of lines of code one by one. At the end of the course, they will have their own polished Mod that they created on their own.

STUDENTS WILL: I Partner with Youth Digital to learn skills in

developing a mod for Minecraft I Design and build their very own Minecraft

Designing DIY Ever wonder how to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to fashion? Make it yourself! This week will allow students to create their own pieces of clothing and jewelry out of basic materials. When you’re making it yourself, it’s all about the creativity. So get out the sketch pads and get to work!
