Angela Burson, Anne Buckwalter, Chechu Álava, Rosalía Banet, Sabine Finkenauer, Scout Zabinski y Sofia Pashaei: siete mujeres artistas, todas con estilos y lenguajes muy diferentes, se reúnen en torno al concepto de "INTIMIDAD", aportando su visión sobre el mismo a través de sus obras en una exposición de grupo.

El germen de esta exposición surge durante el confinamiento. Pasar varias semanas encerrado durante la primavera de 2020, me permitió descubrir más a fondo las redes sociales, y aprender a sacarles partido como herramienta para conocer desde mi sofá el trabajo de artistas de lugares diversos y lejanos. Un día, fruto de la casualidad, en una de estas búsquedas me topé con Anne Buckwalter (Lancaster, 1987). Me sorprendió la sutileza con la que las obras de esta joven pintora hablaban de la intimidad de las personas, de la sexualidad y otros tabúes, a través de habitaciones misteriosas que describían a unos personajes sin necesidad de representarlos.

Después, el algoritmo hizo su trabajo, y comenzamos a conectar con una serie de pintoras, todas ellas unidas por la figuración, expresándose a través de la pintura, el dibujo o las imágenes visuales.

Fruto de estos contactos, poco después llegaron a nosotros las obras de Angela Burson (Liberty, 1969) y Sofia Pashaei (Estocolmo, 1989). Sus interiores, y sus personajes retratados, en su mayoría femeninos, provocan en el espectador extrañeza y cierto misterio, incitándole a observar, analizar y descifrar cada detalle.

Ya en el mundo real, fuera de la red, a finales de 2021 establecemos contacto con Rosalía Banet (Madrid, 1972). Visito el estudio de esta pintora que había seguido desde hacía años en diversos proyectos institucionales, y allí descubro una serie de lienzos de principios de los 2000 que me fascinan.

De nuevo, la “intimidad” aparece en forma de santas contemporáneas que, en medio de escenas aparentemente cotidianas, exponen sus pecados a través de sus heridas y vísceras.

Y es que un trabajo antiguo también puede ser redescubierto como algo nuevo, y por esa misma razón me vienen a mente las enigmáticas “princesas” y los “vestidos” de Sabine Finkenauer (Rockenhausen, 1961) artista de la galería desde hace varios años, que no podía faltar en esta exposición.

Por último, también agradecemos a los coleccionistas que nos han permitido completar este proyecto con el préstamo de sus obras de las artistas Chechu Álava (Asturias, 1973) y Scout Zabinski (New Jersey, 1997), cuyo trabajo también admiramos, y complementa la exposición con diferentes puntos de vista sobre este mismo concepto.

Angela Burson, Anne Buckwalter, Chechu Álava, Rosalía Banet, Sabine Finkenauer, Scout Zabinski and Sofia Pashaei: seven women artists, with very different styles and languages, come together around "INTIMACY", giving their vision of this concept through their works, in a group exhibition that will take place between November 2022 and January 2023.

The seed of this group exhibition was sown during lockdown. Spending several weeks without being able to leave home during the spring of 2020 allowed me to learn more about social networks, and how to take advantage of them as a tool to discover the work of artists from diverse and distant places without leaving the comfort of my couch. One day, by chance, in one of these searches I came across Anne Buckwalter (Lancaster, 1987). I was surprised by the subtlety with which the work of this young painter is able to speak about the intimacy, sexuality and other taboos of people, by means of mysterious rooms that describe them without the need to represent them.

Afterwards, the algorithm did its job very well, and we began to connect with other female painters, all of them united by figuration, expressing themselves through painting, drawing or visual images.

As a result of these contacts, the works of Angela Burson (Liberty, 1969) and Sofia Pashaei (Stockholm, 1989) reached us shortly afterwards. Their interiors, and the characters they portray, mostly female, provoke astonishment and a certain mystery, prompting the viewer to observe, analyze and decipher every detail.

In the meantime, but this time in the real world outside social media, we established contact with Rosalía Banet (Madrid, 1972) at the end of 2021.

I visited the studio of this painter who I had followed for years in different institutional projects, and discovered a series of canvases from the early 2000s that fascinated me. Once again “intimacy” appears - here, in the form of contemporary saints who, in the midst of seemingly everyday scenes, expose their sins through their wounds and viscera.

It’s also true that an old work can be rediscovered as something new, and for that reason the enigmatic “princesses” and “dresses” of Sabine Finkenauer (Rockenhausen, 1961), an artist who has been present in the gallery for several years, came to my mind and could not be omitted from this exhibition.

Finally, we also thank the collectors who have allowed us to complete this project with the loan of their works by the artists Chechu Álava (Asturias, 1973) and Scout Zabinski (New Jersey, 1997), whose work we also admire, and which complements the group exhibition with further points of view on this same concept.

Mother’s milk es un cortometraje que investiga la percepción de la feminidad.

La película explora seis recuerdos en los que el pasado y el presente se entrelazan. Cada recuerdo se crea como un bucle animado sin un principio o un final concreto. Las imágenes se fragmentan de la misma manera que un recuerdo o un pensamiento pueden distorsionar y jugar con la percepción.

Cada parte está contada desde una óptica diferente, siempre jugando con el contraste entre la sencillez y la complejidad.

Esta película reflexiona sobre la intimidad desde un punto de vista colectivo.

Mother’s milk is a short film that investigates the perception of womanhood.

The film explores six memories in which the past and present are intertwined.

Each memory is created as an animated loop without a concrete beginning or end. The images are fragmented in the same way a memory or a thought can distort and play with one's perception. Each part is told from a different lense. Always playing with the contrast between simplicity and complexity.

This film works with themes of intimacy in a group setting.

Desert es un cortometraje creado como un poema visual sobre una mujer tocando fondo. Las dificultades la entierran viva. Ella es de este mundo, pero decididamente no. Escondiéndose en sus viejas luchas, juega con la idea de levantarse de nuevo. El mundo la atrae, ayudándola a buscar lo que alguna vez fue. Sólo en su entrega encuentra su respuesta.

Esta película trata sobre la intimidad desde la perspectiva del individuo.

Desert is a short film created as a visual poem about a woman hitting rock bottom. Hardship buries her alive. She is of this world, yet decidedly not.

Hiding in her old struggles, she toys with the idea of rising again. The world lures her out, helping to look for what has once been. Only in her surrender, does she find her answer.

This film deals with intimacy from the perspective of the individual.

“Mi trabajo trata sobre el trauma y la recuperación, la autorreflexión, la adicción, el abuso, los trastornos alimenticios y el caos de la mente en general. Pinto lo que sé. Después de estudiar psicología, me di cuenta de que el arte que quería crear era demasiado personal para ponerlo en el cuerpo de otra persona. Mis pinturas siempre han sido autorretratos incluso cuando no eran ilustraciones de mi forma física. Creo que esto es cierto para todos los artistas. “My work is about trauma and recovery, self-reflection, addiction, abuse, eating disorders and the chaos of the mind in general. I paint what I know.

After studying psychology, I realized the art I wanted to create was much too personal to put on anyone else’s body. My paintings have always been selfportraits even when they weren’t illustrations of my physical form. I think this is true for every artist. No matter what you paint, you expose a bit of yourself.

However, when I realized my work functioned as a sort of therapy and meditation for me, it became clearer that it only made sense to paint myself because then I could be completely free with what I chose to say. No one could tell me how abrasive, condemning, or honest I was to be about myself.”

“Creo que la mayor diferencia entre mi obra y la de otros pintores que trabajan con el espacio interior es que los espacios que creo reflejan directamente mi propia experiencia vivida. “En esta exposición hay una serie de retratos de mujeres y uno de Sigmund Freud. ¿Por qué es el único hombre representado?

No sé si llamarlo ironía. Incluyo a Freud porque todas nos buscamos. Para mí refleja sobre todo la búsqueda de una misma, esa búsqueda interior tan potente que tenemos que hacer para salir adelante. Creo que nosotras nos conocemos de otra manera, pero es en parte una forma de reírnos de nosotras mismas. “In this exhibition there is a series of portraits of women and one of Sigmund Freud. Why is he the only man represented?

I don't know whether to call it irony. I include Freud because we are all searching for ourselves. For me it reflects above all the search for oneself, that powerful inner search that we have to make in order to move forward. I think we know ourselves differently, but it's partly a way of laughing at ourselves. It's a couch scene that could be a self-portrait, or it could be any one of us telling that little old man about our affairs".
