Al tiempo que en la planta principal de la galería tiene lugar la tercera individual de Sabine Finkenauer con nosotros, bajando las escaleras nos encontramos en #LACRIPTAPROJECTS con la primera individual de la pintora americana Angela Burson (Liberty, Missouri, 1969) en nuestra galería.
Tras su participación en algunas de nuestras propuestas para ferias y exposiciones de grupo, presentamos un conjunto de sus obras sobre tabla en pequeño formato donde, influenciada por una estética, moda y objetos personales propios de épocas que hoy nos resultan anacrónicas, pinta figuras, sus pertenencias y espacios habitados dando lugar a relaciones psicológicas y sociales complejas.

While Sabine Finkenauer's third solo show with us takes place on the main floor of the gallery, downstairs in #LACRIPTAPROJECTS we find the first solo show of the American painter Angela Burson (Liberty, Missouri, 1969) in our gallery.
After her participation in some of our proposals for fairs and group exhibitions, we present a set of her works on panel in small format where, influenced by the aesthetics, fashion and personal objects of an anachronistic era, Angela Burson paints figures, their belongings and inhabited spaces, resulting in complex psychological and social relationships.
“I paint images of figures, their belongings, and interior spaces, which indicate complex psychological and social relationships with one another. Often, the figure is cropped or headless, so the viewer sees the clothed body not as a portrait, but as a collection of objects and patterns”.

Angela Burson es una artista visual que trabaja con diversos medios, como la pintura, el dibujo, la escultura y la costura. Nacida en Liberty, Missouri, y actualmente afincada en Savannah, Georgia, estudió en el Savannah College of Art and Design, donde se licenció en pintura en 1991
En palabras de la propia artista, “a lo largo de mi carrera, me han influido las imágenes anacrónicas de la moda y los objetos personales. Pinto imágenes de figuras, sus pertenencias y espacios interiores, que indican complejas relaciones psicológicas y sociales entre sí. A menudo la figura está recortada o sin cabeza, de modo que el espectador ve el cuerpo vestido no como un retrato, sino como un conjunto de objetos y patrones. Me interesa la conexión surrealista entre el sujeto realista y el patrón plano repetitivo. A menudo, los objetos, los personajes o los fragmentos de un cuerpo se toman de fotografías familiares existentes. Camisas de siameses, trajes vacíos, brazos vendados, torsos sin cabeza, una maleta, un juguete, una habitación vacía... todos ellos se emplean como significantes, proporcionando una visión de las complejidades de la identidad y las posibilidades que existen en las relaciones entre los objetos La sutileza de los detalles finamente representados pretende ofrecer al espectador una visión de las distintas capas de significado”.
Burson ha expuesto su obra en Estados Unidos y en el extranjero, entre otros lugares en Hashimoto Contemporary (Los Ángeles y Nueva York), el Leedy-Voulkos Art Center, Kansas City, Missouri, el SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah; y la Gallery Most, Podgorica, Montenegro. Su obra ha aparecido en New American Paintings, Create!, Magazine's Women's Issue, Frankie Magazine y Paprika Southern.

Angela Burson is a visual artist who works in a variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, and needlework She studied at Savannah College of Art and Design where she received her B.F.A. in Painting in 1991. A native of Liberty, Missouri, the Savannah, Georgia-based artist has exhibited her work across the U.S. and abroad, including at Hashimoto Contemporary (LA and New York), the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center, Kansas City, Missouri, the SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah; and Gallery Most, Podgorica, Montenegro. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings, Create! Magazine’s Women’s Issue, Frankie Magazine and Paprika Southern.
In her words, “throughout my career, I have been influenced by anachronistic images of fashion and personal objects. I paint images of figures, their belongings, and interior spaces, which indicate complex psychological and social relationships with one another. Often, the figure is cropped or headless, so the viewer sees the clothed body not as a portrait, but as a collection of objects and patterns I am interested in the surreal connection between realistic subject matter and flat repetitive pattern Often, the objects, personages, or fragments of a body are culled from existing family photographs. Shirts as conjoined twins, empty suits, bandaged arms, headless torsos, a suitcase, a toy, an empty room all are employed as signifiers, providing glimpses into the complexities of identity and the possibilities that exist in relationships between objects. The subtlety of the closely rendered detail is intended to provide the viewer insight into layers of meaning”.
