VOLUNTEER TREE PLANTING DAY

REFERENDUM PROJECT UPDATES

In March 2024, the community passed a referendum to fund various improvements throughout the District. The Board of Commissioners and staff have been making steady progress on these enhancements and look forward to sharing more updates as work continues. Visit rparks.org/futureparks for the latest updates, renderings, and FAQs.

Kemmerling Park

Construction at Kemmerling Park began in May 2025 and includes upgrades to the tennis and pickleball courts, new fencing, a playground replacement, shade structure, family game tables, outdoor fitness equipment stations, and a nature lookout with a hanging swing. These improvements are expected to be completed by September 1, with the playground and courts projected to reopen. Full asphalt replacement of the walking path will follow in the fall.

Kemmerling SPLASH PAD & AQUATICS

Aquatic improvements at Kemmerling Park include a new 3,500-square-foot splash pad, dive well enhancements such as a climbing wall, added seating and shade, and infrastructure upgrades like a new pool heater. The project has been bid out and awarded to contractors, with construction scheduled to begin in mid-August 2025. Preliminary work already completed includes replacement of the pool heater, chlorinator, and other minor system upgrades. Construction is expected to wrap up by late spring 2026, with the splash pad opening alongside the regular 2026 pool season.

CLAUSS RECREATION CENTER

Improvements at the Clauss Recreation Center include a redesigned front lobby and a 700-square-foot expansion of the fitness center, featuring new equipment and enhanced seating areas. Construction begins August 2, 2025. The facility will be closed to the public from August 2–10 for initial demolition. It will reopen on August 10 with temporary lower-level access for activities and registration. The fitness center will be closed August 1–10, with a temporary setup opening in the Maple Room on August 11. Full project completion is expected by October 2025.

TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS

The walking loop at Kemmerling Park is scheduled for full replacement in Fall 2025, to coincide with the aquatic improvement project at the site. Pathway upgrades are also planned at Engel and Goose Lake Parks to improve accessibility and overall usability. These improvements include leveling, widening, and repaving trails to create a safer, more inclusive experience for all users. Given the age and condition of the existing paths, the District is conducting surveys and engineering assessments to determine the full scope of work. To help manage potential costs, the District is actively pursuing grant funding to support these efforts.

REFORESTATION

As part of the District’s commitment to enhancing green spaces in our community, we pledged to focus on reforesting several parks by replacing approximately 200 trees and making great progress. Since May 2024

135 trees have been removed 201 new, diverse trees have been planted 88 additional trees are scheduled for planting in the next 6 months

NATURALIZATION

Native plantings are beginning to bloom along the shoreline of Goose Lake Pond, bringing vibrant flowers to the landscape. While these bi-annual plants may be mowed down as part of their growth cycle, they’ll return stronger with each season. This fall and winter, the District will also continue clearing the opposite side of the pond in preparation for spring seeding. At Engel Park, a thriving prairie filled with native flowers has emerged. Efforts continue to mitigate invasive phragmites near the park entrance, with plans to seed the area with grass and flowers once cleared.

Age 2.25 Years by 9/1/2025, and working on potty training

Curriculum emphasizes a nurturing atmosphere and an introduction to the educational process which is inviting and encouraging. Teachers assist children in experiencing a positive separation from home, provide opportunities to work with various media forms, and help develop listening and language skills. Appropriate activities include opportunities to improve gross and fine motor development, listening to simple stories, basic art projects, and working with toys, puzzles, and blocks.

Little Learners

Age 3 Years by 9/1/2025, and potty trained

Curriculum exposes the children to structure, routine, and following directions within a schedule. Beginning concepts in reading, writing, and math; encouraging growth in social development, and promoting an awareness of health and safety are also a class focus. Appropriate activities include providing a healthy outlet for imaginary and dramatic play, working with manipulatives, listening to stories, having special visitors, going on field trips, and opportunities for students to express themselves.

Kindergarten Readiness

Age 4 Years by 9/1/2025, and potty trained

The Frog Street Curriculum integrates STEAM projects, promotes problem-solving skills, and includes a research-based scope and sequence for literacy and math. This curriculum acknowledges the individual needs of all learners. This class provides further development of the educational concepts in literature, math, and science, as well as social, emotional, and physical growth. There is a greater variety of experiences to promote interest in the community and the world outside the student’s own. There are more concentrated fine motor skills such as writing letters and numbers, cutting, gluing, painting, and using manipulatives. There are many opportunities for making choices, developing problem solving skills, becoming independent thinkers, and developing confidence. Children also have visitors and go on field trips to enrich their studies of various themes.

2025-2026 Preschool Program (NA)

The 2025-2026 school year begins the week of September 8, and ends the week of May 11, and follows the District 12 school calendar for days off. Days cancelled for any reason are not made up at the end of the year due to program schedule and graduation ceremonies. All children enrolling in the District preschool must submit a copy of birth certificate at the time of registration, and a current ePACT record by the first day of class.

LIL’ DRIBBLERS (ML)

Ages 4-6

Hot Shots Sports aims to develop young athletes who will grow emotionally, physically, and intellectually in our sports programs.

By redirecting the focus away from wins and losses and toward personal growth, we create an environment where winning is the byproduct of, and not the means to, success. This approach creates critical thinkers who understand the importance of giving their best in practice, games, and other endeavors. Our Coaches take pride in fostering that drive and motivating your child to find the champion inside of themselves.

The Lil’ Dribblers Basketball program introduces children to the game of basketball in a safe, fun and exciting environment. Our curriculum uses age-appropriate activities and games specifically designed to increase balance, body awareness, motor skills, hand/eye coordination, listening skills and the ability to follow directions.

Practices will be held during the week based on coach’s availability and will begin at least two weeks prior to game play if there are enough volunteer coaches at the time. Once the team selection process is completed, parents will be contacted by their coach to inform them of first practice location, date, and time. Wait lists will be used until there are enough players and a volunteer head coach to form another team.

Coming in the day of, or the day before the program won’t resurrect it. Please register at least a week early to avoid disappointment.

WAIVERS

In accordance with the Recreation Department policy, all program participants must sign a hold harmless agreement prior to participation in department sponsored programs. The waivers are on the bottom portion of program registration forms, designated sign-in sheets, and fitness membership applications. These must be signed by the adult participating in an adult program; and by the parent or legal guardian of participant under 18.

WAITLIST PROCESS

A waitlist is formed when a class reaches participant levels beyond the maximum. The waitlist is maintained based on the order we process registrations. Customers will be contacted for confirmation before being added to one of our waitlists (or transferred from a wait list into the desired program) by the front desk or specific program supervisor. Please Note: Before a participant is transferred into a program, all corresponding paperwork and payments are required.

RESIDENCY

Not all Roselle residents are Roselle Park District residents. Even though you may have a Roselle address, you may pay taxes to another park district. Therefore, proof of residency is required when registering for programs for the first time. This may be done with a driver’s license, utility bill, (or a mortgage statement for those who are recently moving to the area). Roselle Park District residents support the district through property tax contributions.

WHAT IF I HAVE A SPECIAL NEED?

Participants who require special assistance during park district programs should note their needs on the registration form and call (630) 894-4200 to notify the park district. For additional services, please contact the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association at (630) 681-0962. Note: There is a box to check on our program registration form to alert our Front Desk Attendants and Recreation Supervisors that these services are desired for any given program.

WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE?

The Roselle Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The Park District, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in a recreation program or using facilities. Patrons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their own personal insurance program.

RETURNED CHECK POLICY

We gladly accept personal checks as payment. If for any reason a check is returned to our office marked “NSF,” we will contact you. You will then be required to submit a full cash or money order payment, as well as a $30 bookkeeping fee, within a ten business day period. Class privileges will be suspended, and new registration will not be accepted until payment is received.

TRANSFERS

A transfer allows participants to transfer their registration from one program to another, or from one household member to another member of the same household. Transfer requests must be submitted at least two business days before the program’s first class, meeting, or practice. Transfers are not allowed between different households and waitlists cannot be bypassed through a transfer.

REFUND POLICY

The Roselle Park District endorses a customer satisfaction policy and strives to provide high quality programs, services, and facilities. However, sometimes expectation levels or situations occur that do not meet the satisfaction of our customers and a refund request is made. If for any reason you are requesting a refund, please contact the Park District at (630) 894-4200 or come by in person to submit a request.

1. All refund requests must be made at least two business days before the first class, meeting, or practice of program.

2. Trips and special events require reservations and planning weeks ahead of time and therefore do not allow us to accept refund requests unless there is a waitlist, and someone can fill the spot.

3. Individuals requesting refunds with two or more business days’ notice, prior to the first class, meeting, or practice will receive a full refund, less $5 for administrative costs.

4. No refunds will be issued for any program after second meeting of a program unless a physician’s note is provided. Refund requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received.

5. Refunds with facility rental fees:

• Cancellation request 30 or more calendar days prior to rental date = full refund (less $20 for administrative costs)

• Cancellation request 15-29 calendar days prior to rental date = 50% refund (less $20 for administrative costs)

• Cancellation request 6-14 calendar days prior to rental date = 25% refund

(less $20 for administrative costs)

• Cancellation request 5 or less calendar days prior to rental date = no refund

• Other types of refund inquiries are at the discretion of the Recreation Supervisor or Superintendent of Recreation.

6. The Park District will not issue refunds for fitness center memberships or Lake Park High School student parking permits.

7. Some classes, programs, and fees have specific refund policies that will be adhered to.

8. The Park District reserves the right to judge refund requests on a case-by-case basis and partial or full refunds may or may not be approved at any time at the discretion of the district.

9. Refunds can take up to fifteen business days.
