WDSRA RECREATIONAL & SOCIAL PROGRAMS: IN-PERSON & VIRTUAL

WDSRA provides fun, engaging recreational and social programs, trips, and special events for children, teens, and adults with special needs. Programs are structured to allow everyone to participate at their own ability level. Through WDSRA each individual has the opportunity to grow personally, connect with their community and discover their potential.

Inclusion Services

Inclusion Services are designed to provide the least restrictive environment while providing the maximum opportunity to participate in regular park programs. There is no charge for WDSRA support. To register for services, simply indicate that special accommodations are needed on the park district registration form. Two-week advance notice is requested for inclusion support.

Tumbling Tots I (VT)

Ages 2-3 (Parent participation recommended)

This program gives young girls and boys an opportunity to develop gross motor skills, a better sense of balance, and spatial awareness while interacting with their peers and instructor. Using mats and basic gymnastics equipment, children will have fun jumping, climbing, and crawling in a free flowing and safe environment, including various tumbling obstacle courses. The program will be a mix of instruction and “free play with parents.”

Tumbling Tots II (VT)

Ages 3-5

This class will feature a bit more structure and coaching than Tumbling Tots I, incorporating swinging and rolling with an emphasis on instilling more confidence and independence in participants while exploring basic tumbling skills and techniques. Parents will sit and watch nearby but may be asked to step in occasionally as needed.

Youth/Adult Taekwon-Do (VT)

Ages 8+

Imagine what an advantage you will have now, and in the future, by learning martial arts today. Do you like to stretch, kick, punch, relieve stress, and feel good? The benefits of Taekwon-Do include character building, confidence, self-esteem, discipline, focus, perseverance, physical fitness, improved balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, and self-defense. Imagine that “attitude is everything” and you will never give up in any aspect of your life. This is Taekwon-Do! New students are asked to arrive one half hour earlier on the first day to learn about the program and to purchase the uniform.

Illinois Shotokan Karate (VT)

Ages 4+

Children and adults universally enjoy learning the art of karate. Classes are taught by Illinois Shotokan Karate Club’s expert instructors under the direction of John DiPasquale, four-time National Champion, and President of the American Shotokan Karate Association. Ages 7-Adult may train together. Uniforms and belt-testing are available through the instructor. Registration after the session has begun is accepted, but at the full registration fee. Pre-Karate (VT)

Ages 4-6

Young children will develop agility, strength, and coordination skills through fun and creative activities. This program, specifically designed to work with growing minds and bodies, enhances memory and agility skills. Watch your child blossom while learning karate and having a blast at the same time!

Parent & Child Karate (VT)

Ages 7+ with Adult

An excellent opportunity to spend quality time with your child, while conditioning muscles, developing coordination, and improving cardiovascular fitness. Fees are per person. Please note that the Youth, Parent/Child and Adult classes may train together.

Youth/Adult Karate (VT)

Ages 7+

ISKC’s karate classes offer a good mix of strength training, with cardiovascular and flexibility exercises. Students increase their coordination, agility, and poise, as well as learn lasting personal safety skills. They also benefit from the mental stimulation of learning the choreographed moves of the kata and the discipline of conforming to the class rules.
