Painting with Cobra
Painting with Cobra water mixable oil colours provides artists numerous advantages. Cobra: • has a very wide colour spectrum with 70 colours; • has a complete range of auxiliaries; • has a high degree of pigmentation and fineness (Artists’ quality); • has the highest degree of lightfastness (+++), whereby the original colour remains unchanged for at least 100 years under museum conditions; • offers ten colours based on highly exclusive pigments such as the cadmiums, cobalts and chromium oxides; • does not contain any solvents and therefore can be used everywhere; • contains colours with a uniform degree of sheen; • has a uniform drying time; • gives typical oil paint results, such as sharp brush strokes and wonderfully deep colours; • is ideal for all oil paint techniques, from ‘alla prima’ and layered painting to glazing techniques; • mixes with water very well; • is suitable for using rough and fine textures, whether pure or mixed with water and/or medium; • is suitable for working with brushes, painting knives, rollers, sponges, etc.; • is easy to remove with soap and water from hands and equipment.
Why can oil colours be mixed with water?
In order to allow oil to be mixed with water an additive is necessary that functions as a type of intermediary in bringing about a stable mixture of small oil droplets in water. This mixture is called an emulsion and the additive an emulsifier. Such a method has been used in painting for a long time: with casein and tempera paint. Natural emulsifiers have been used for these two types of paint. Casein is a natural emulsifier and tempera is made using the emulsifiers in egg (yoke). The result is always that the paint, despite the presence of water-repellent components, can still be mixed with water and is indelible when dry.
The techniuque
Cobra gives the artist all the freedom to paint just about everywhere. This is due to Cobra paint and mediums not needing any solvents during use and they can be easily mixed with water. Impossible? On the contrary! Painting with Cobra is the same as painting with traditional oil paint. The paint can be applied using all the usual oil paint techniques and there are no visible changes during the drying process. The colour as well as the brush stroke or applied texture remain unchanged after the paint has dried: the paint remains as it was when applied. What’s more, Cobra offers the possibility of painting using opaque as well as transparent layers. The unique properties of the paint add an extra dimension. For example, you don’t need to work with solvents so that your work area is kept free of unhealthy vapours.
Cobra auxiliaries
Working with Cobra is even more fun and easy with those mediums and varnishes that are especially geared to (water mixable) oil paint techniques. Mediums affect the properties of the paint and are often indispensable for a durable build-up of your painting. A varnish, for example, can protect a painting for a long time.

Schilderen met Cobra watervermengbare olieverf biedt de kunstschilder tal van voordelen. Hoe is het mogelijk dat olieverf zich laat vermengen met water?
Om het mengen van olie en water mogelijk te maken heb je een toevoeging nodig die er als een soort intermediair voor zorgt dat een stabiel mengsel ontstaat van kleine oliedruppeltjes in water. Dit mengsel wordt emulsie genoemd en de toevoeging een emulgator. In feite maakt men in de schilderkunst al heel lang gebruik van een dergelijke methode, namelijk bij caseĂŻne- en eitemperaverf. Bij deze twee verfsoorten zijn natuurlijke emulgatoren gebruikt. CaseĂŻne is van zichzelf een emulgator en bij eitempera wordt gebruik gemaakt van de in het ei(geel) aanwezige emulgatoren. Het resultaat is steeds dat de verf, ondanks de aanwezigheid van waterafstotende bestanddelen (zoals oliĂŤn), zich toch laat mengen met water en na droging watervast is.
De techniek
Cobra geeft je als kunstenaar alle vrijheid om werkelijk overal te kunnen schilderen. Juist omdat Cobra verf en mediums bij het verwerken geen oplosmiddelen vereisen en gemakkelijk met water vermengd kunnen worden. Onmogelijk? Integendeel! Schilderen met Cobra is gelijk aan schilderen met traditionele olieverf. Je kunt de verf toepassen in alle gangbare olieverftechnieken. Tijdens het drogen doen zich geen zichtbare veranderingen voor. De kleur, maar ook de penseelstreek of een aangebrachte structuur blijft na droging van de verf onveranderd: de verf blijft staan zoals deze is aangebracht. Bovendien biedt Cobra je de mogelijkheid om dekkend én transparant te schilderen. De unieke verfeigenschappen voegen er nog een dimensie aan toe. Zo werk je zonder oplosmiddelen, zodat je werkruimte vrij van ongezonde dampen blijft.
Cobra hulpmiddelen
Werken met Cobra wordt nóg plezieriger en gemakkelijker met de mediums en vernissen die speciaal zijn afgestemd op (watervermengbare) olieverftechnieken. Mediums beïnvloeden de eigenschappen van de verf en zijn vaak onmisbaar bij een duurzame opbouw van je schilderij. Met een vernis kun je een schilderij voor lange tijd beschermen.

Malen mit der wassermischbaren Ölfarbe Cobra bietet dem Künstler zahllose Vorteile. Wie ist es möglich, dass Ölfarbe sich mit Wasser vermischen lässt?
Um eine Mischung von Wasser und Öl zu ermöglichen, benötigt man ein Zusatzmittel, das als eine Art Vermittler dafür sorgt, dass eine stabile Mischung mit vielen kleinen Öltröpfchen in Wasser entsteht. So eine Mischung nennt man Emulsion, das Zusatzmittel bezeichnet man als Emulgator. Im Grunde wendet man in der Malkunst schon sehr lange eine ähnliche Methode an, nämlich bei Kasein- und Eitemperafarben. Für diese zwei Farbsorten werden natürliche Emulgatoren verwendet. Kasein ist von Natur aus ein Emulgator, bei der Eitemperafarbe macht man Gebrauch von den im Ei(gelb) vorhandenen Emulgatoren. Das Resultat: Die Farbe lässt sich trotz des Vorhandenseins wasserabstossender Bestandteile (wie Öle) dennoch mit Wasser vermischen und ist nach der Trocknung wasserfest.
Die Technik
Cobra gibt Ihnen als Künstler alle Freiheit, wirklich überall malen zu können. Gerade deshalb, weil die Farbe und die Hilfsmittel von Cobra beim Verarbeiten keine Verwendung von Lösungsmitteln erfordern und einfach mit Wasser vermischt werden können. Unmöglich? Im Gegenteil! Das Malen mit Cobra ist genauso wie das Malen mit traditioneller Ölfarbe. Man kann die Farbe für alle gängigen Ölfarbtechniken verwenden, und während des Trocknens entstehen keine sichtbaren Veränderungen: Der Farbton, aber auch der Pinselstrich oder eine aufgetragene Struktur bleiben nach der Trocknung unverändert. Die Farbe bleibt so, wie sie aufgetragen wurde. Darüber hinaus bietet Cobra Ihnen die Möglichkeit, sowohl deckend als auch transparent zu arbeiten. Die einzigartigen Farbeigenschaften erweitern das Malerlebnis um noch eine weitere Dimension. Auf diese Weise arbeitet man ohne Lösungsmittel, so dass am Arbeitsplatz keine ungesunden Dämpfe entstehen.
Cobra Hilfsmittel
Arbeiten mit Cobra wird noch angenehmer und einfacher mit den Malmitteln und Firnissen, die speziell auf Techniken für (wassermischbare) Ölfarbe abgestimmt sind. Malmittel beeinflussen die Farbeigenschaften und sind oft unentbehrlich für einen langlebigen Aufbau eines Bildes. Ein Firnis bietet langjährigen Schutz für eine Malerei.

Peindre avec Cobra
Avec les couleurs à l’huile diluable à l’eau Cobra, un artiste-peintre profite de nombreux avantages. Comment se fait-il que l’huile se laisse mélanger à l’eau ?
Pour mélanger l’huile et l’eau, il faut un additif qui fonctionne en tant qu’intermédiaire pour assurer un mélange stable de gouttes d’huile dans l’eau. On appelle ce mélange « émulsion » et l’additif est un « émulsifiant ». Cette méthode n’est pas nouvelle, parce qu’on l’utilise déjà longtemps pour fabriquer la peinture à la caséine et la tempera à l’oeuf. Dans leur fabrication, on utilise des émulsifiants naturels. La caséine est elle-même un émulsifiant et pour la tempera à l’oeuf on utilise les émulsifiants qui se trouvent dans le (jaune d’)oeuf. Malgré la présence d’éléments hydrophobes (comme les huiles), la peinture se laisse mélanger à l’eau et sèche résistante à l’eau.
La technique
Cobra donne aux artistes la liberté de peindre absolument partout. La peinture et les médiums Cobra ne nécessitent pas de solvants et se mélangent facilement à l’eau. Impossible ? Bien au contraire. Peindre avec Cobra est comme peindre à l’huile traditionnelle. Vous pouvez appliquer la peinture dans toutes les techniques courantes et pendant le séchage, vous ne percevrez pas de changements. La couleur, tout comme le coup de pinceau et la structure appliquée, ne changent pas après séchage de la peinture : la peinture tient exactement comme vous l’appliquez. C’est-à-dire que votre travail sera conservé au minimum 100 ans (conditions de musée). La résistance à la lumière est testée selon la norme ASTM D4303. Pintar con Cobra
Pintar con óleo miscible con agua Cobra ofrece un sinfín de ventajas al pintor. Cobra: • cuenta con un amplio espectro de colores, con nada menos que 70; • dispone de una gama completa de auxiliares; • tiene un contenido de pigmento y una fineza altos (Artists’ quality); • tiene el grado más elevado de resistencia a la luz (+++), por lo que el color original se mantiene intacto por un mínimo de 100 años en condiciones de museo; • ofrece diez colores a base de pigmentos muy exclusivos, como los cadmios, los cobaltos y los óxidos de cromo; • no contiene disolventes y puede, por tanto, usarse en cualquier lugar; • sus colores tienen un brillo uniforme; • el tiempo de secado es uniforme; • ofrece un resultado característico de la pintura al óleo, como una pincelada contundente y bellos e intensos colores; • es ideal para todas las técnicas al óleo, desde alla prima, hasta pintar por capas y veladuras; • se mezcla perfectamente con agua; • es apto para trabajar tanto en estructuras gruesas como muy finas, puro o mezclado con agua y/o con medio; • es apto para trabajar con pincel, espátula, rulo, esponja, etc.; • se elimina fácilmente con agua y jabón de las manos y los utensilios.
¿Cómo es posible que la pintura al óleo se pueda mezclar con agua?
Para que la pintura al óleo se pueda mezcar con agua es necesario añadirle algo que funcione como una especie de intermediario para que se consiga una mezcla estable compuesta de pequeñas gotitas de aceite en agua. A esta mezcla se le llama emulsión y a la substancia que se le añade, emulsor. En realidad, en el arte pictórico hace ya mucho tiempo que se usa este método, a saber en la pintura a la caseína y en la pintura de yema de huevo. En estos dos tipos de pintura se usan emulsores naturales. La caseína es de por si un emulsor y en el temple al huevo, se usan los emulsores que ya contiene la yema del huevo. El resultado es siempre un óleo que, a pesar de las substancias repelentes al agua (como el aceite), se deja mezcar bien con agua y es resistente a ella una vez seco.
La técnica
Como pintor, Cobra te proporciona toda la libertad para poder realmente pintar donde quieras. Justo porque la pintura y los auxiliares de Cobra no necesitan ningún disolvente y se mezclan fácilmente con agua. ¿Imposible? ¡Todo lo contrario! Pintar con Cobra es como pintar con un óleo tradicional. Puedes usar la pintura en las técnicas típicas del óleo, sin que durante el proceso de secado se produzcan otros efectos. El color, la pincelada o un relieve aplicado no cambia nada después de que la pintura esté seca: la pintura queda intacta a como ha sido aplicada. Además, Cobra te da la oportunidad de pintar tanto de forma opaca como transparente. Las propiedades especiales de la pintura le dan una nueva dimensión. Así, trabajas sin disolventes, para que tu lugar de trabajo se mantenga libre de vapores nocivos.
Auxiliares Cobra
Trabajar con Cobra es aún más fácil y agradable con los medios y barnices especialmente elaborados para las técnicas con óleo miscible con agua. Los medios modifican las propiedades de la pintura y, a menudo, son imprescindibles para una configuración duradera de los cuadros. Con el barniz, la obra queda protegida por mucho tiempo.
