Sports Day Programme 2025

Welcome from the Director of Sport, Health & Fitness

A warm welcome

Welcome to all our parents, carers, pupils and guests for today’s Senior School Sports Day. With nearly every pupil participating, the day has been designed to test every one of them with a range of events. We are delighted to present an exciting Sports Day programme to showcase athleticism across the Houses in a fun and vibrant environment. Each pupil can only compete in one track, one field and two relay events, so tactical selection comes into play to ensure glory for their House. Relay and Tug of War events will offer double points, so it’s all to play for. As with all sports, we want pupils to show the Royal Russell values of being courageous and ambitious in their performance, and we urge you all to be vocal in your support for each athlete. Good luck to every competitor - we look forward to an exciting day and thank you to all staff for their hard work in ensuring we all enjoy this fantastic event.

A Visit from Paralympian Marcus Perrineau Daley

We are delighted to welcome Paris 2024 silver medallist Marcus Perrineau Daley to Sports Day. In 2014, Marcus sustained significant spinal injuries in a motorbike accident where doctors told him it was a miracle that he survived. Following the accident, Marcus first tried wheelchair boxing and rugby before he took up wheelchair racing. He is now ranked in the world Top 10 for the T52 100m with a personal best time of 17.38 seconds.

Our Vision for Sport

At Royal Russell, we aim to drive an outstanding sport and physical activity provision across all disciplines; to nurture pupils’ intellectual and personal development; and to foster lifelong healthy, active lifestyles which go beyond their school career.

Supporting the Competitors

We hope that all visitors will enjoy the day as much as we enjoy being out on the pitches and courts with our pupils. We ask that all our guests help us to maintain a positive environment that encourages ambitious, open, distinctive and courageous performers. Sport provides many opportunities for success, and pupils’ efforts and performances should be rewarded and applauded, not just the results. We encourage all supporters to be good role models. Please consider tone and language, and respect all the decisions made by officials, coaches and pupils.

We ask that supporters with dogs keep them off the pitches and away from the Athletics Track area.

If you have any concerns about the conduct of any individual, please contact a member of staff or contact the Director of Sport, Health & Fitness directly.

Safety

Please could we remind all competitors and spectators to remain outside track and field areas or competition areas unless competing. This is especially important in the throwing areas.

Refreshments & Facilities

Various refreshment carts are onsite for the afternoon, enabling you to purchase beverages and snacks.

Toilets for parents are available in the Pavilion. Toilets for pupils are located in the changing rooms.

The Russell School Development Foundation

As we look ahead to Royal Russell’s 175th Anniversary in 2028, we aim to increase our bursary provision by 50%.

The Russell School Development Foundation was created to provide a conduit for the continued generosity and philanthropy of the Royal Russell community. Through your support, we can offer transformative opportunities that change the lives of young people by offering them the greatest gift of an outstanding Royal Russell education.
